"Oslow, it's a very tricky place to get into." said Vet as he stares vividly at the map of Oslow.
"Didn't you like run the place 20 years ago?" I asked him while shifting my stance.
Currently, we are all huddled over the oak table trying to figure out where to go in at. I say we just go in and ransack the place, but the only problem is that we may get killed in the action.
"I did, but it's been years since I've been there, some of the secret tunnels may be closed off. Or Sasha knows about them and have people blocking them I wouldn't put it past her." Sasha is very clever; she'll know that were coming for Quinneth. I wouldn't dare leave her there and she knows that, what does she want? Is she trying to provoke me or something? It may be torture for us trapping her, and she wants Quinneth so she can resurrect the First Power. If that actually happens, which I believe won't, it will be the end of us all in the Nygaard Kingdom.
"Is there someplace where she wouldn't know about? Think deeply." Henry focuses in on Vet, trying to see if he'll remember something, anything. After a few seconds a glimmer appears in Vet's eyes, he must have remembered something.
"Well. . .there is a tunnel that starts in the woods then leads to the inside of the prison. Only a few people knew about it, it was built specifically for me and my family just in case something catastrophic happened. I'm 100% sure Sasha doesn't know about it." His finger traces across the hidden tunnel under the ground.
The tunnel starts in the middle of the woods on the east side, then leads to the prison. It looks like it may take us at least 30 minutes to get to Quinneth and Katana. I hope she's alright.
"Was anybody going to call me?" Everyone turns around to see my quite angry mother standing in the doorway. I can tell she just woke up because she has her robe on and bed hair. Her foot taps impatiently on the marble floor.
"Coletta honey. It was an urgent matter we didn't have time to notify you." My father tells her, taking a big gulp. My mother can be very scary sometimes. It's the only person that my father is afraid of.
"I know you didn't forget that I'm the Alpha of this pack too. Next time there's an urgent situation, notify me. Now, tell me what's going on." She plucks her red glasses from her house coat and puts it on her face. Charles brings my mother up to date on the matter.
"Quinneth and Katana have been captured by Sasha. There currently located in Oslow, Quinneth channeled Alexander and sent a message. We are currently making a plan to get her back." My mother comes up to me and rubs my lower back.
"Oh honey, I can't imagine what you're going through. You know there's a hidden tunnel in the woods that leads to the prison." Everyone glances at her, confused on why she would know this information. "I went to Oslow once when I was younger and saw some people going down there. I'll stay here and hold down the pack, make sure if anyone comes by, you'll be notified."
"Thanks Mom." I kiss her gently on her temple. It clutches against my lips.
"Anything for my favorite son."
"I'm your only son."
"I know." She smiles.
My father starts to assign orders to everyone. He, Charles and Henry will go in first since they are the three leaders of the pack. Followed by the best warriors we have, then me, Christian and Aren. We would bring Vet along with us but he is a liability. Sasha, mostly his father, wants him dead and we can't have him dying on us when we're trying to save the girls.
"Ok, everything in order and everyone knows their positions. Go suit up we'll meet outside in 10 minutes." My father boosts out while clapping his hands. Voices start to murmur out as they walk out the room getting suited up.
Lyra, whom I forgot was here, comes over to me. Her red hair has twigs and leaves in it. Dress is ripped at the bottom while her bare feet are in contact with the marble floor. She looks haggard not to be rude or anything like that. She looked so scared when she showed up here. . . . she was scared of Quinneth being missing as I was.
"Can I come with you guys?" She asked.
"You know you can't Lyra." I walk out the room on my way to get suited up. She follows close behind me, as she clutches her body together. It is rather cold in here now that I think about it.
"Why not she's my best friend! I need to make sure she's safe." I stop in my tracks and turn around. People start to walk by us, I take her by the arm gently and talk to her on the side.
"Lyra look, I know she's your best friend and you love her. Well guess what I love her too. Like Vet you are a liability if we take you with us, you can't keep up and your human. Go home with Count, get cleaned up and take a nap. Me and the others can take care of this, we've been training for moments like this." She tucks her red hair behind her ear, she shivers under the cool air. I take off my red jacket and wrap it around her tall frame. She warms up against it.
"Damn this is really warm. Did it just come out the dryer or something?" I laugh at her comment. She reminds me a little of Quinneth.
"No, I'm warm-blooded. Perks of being a werewolf."
"About that, I have many questions about. . .all of this." She pans the room with her dirty arms.
"Just like Quinneth had. When I get her back you can ask her all the questions you want, or you can ask me she's always forgetting something or leaving out details."
"That sounds like Harlequinn." A small giggle leaves her lips.
Behind her I see Milo coming over. He has the same nervous look Lyra had when she came in the room. Out of everyone in here I know he has to be the most scared. Quinneth is his granddaughter, he's taken care of her since she was a child.
"Look, go with Milo you guys can wait here or go back to the house. If your scared I can have some guards go with you."
"No, no I'll be fine. Thank you though, ummm you should go the others may be waiting for you." I pat her on the shoulder and give her a small smile.
Heading into the gear room, everyone is strapping themselves up with protection and weapons. In the far corner I see Zeta suiting up, where does she think she's going. I walk over to her; she sees me coming and dazzles me with a smile.
"Zeta."
"Alexander." She says mocking my tone.
"Where do you think you're going?"
"What does it look like." She says in a duh tone. "I'm going to help you with Quinneth."
"Oh hell no. Your father would kill me if he knew you were going out there with us, it's dangerous. Plus, you have a mate now and a child." She stops what she's doing and glares at me. She hasn't looked at me like that since we dated.
"First of all, I'm a hybrid which makes me way stronger thank you. Secondly, I've gone on many missions with my father and look I'm still alive. Lastly, I do what I want." She pushes me aside and walks out the door, her hips moving seductively from side to side.
Over comes Aren and Christian.
"So, your hybrid ex-girlfriend is coming along with us then?" asked Christian. He sits down on the bench lacing up his boots.
"Yes, can't stop her. And why did you add the hybrid?"
"Uh because she is one. Not everyone is lucky to date one. I heard there really good in bed. Isn't that why you feel in love with her, because she was dominant." He moves his eyes in a seductive way.
"I wasn't in love with her, I just. . .was fond of her that's all. Also, she has a mate."
"Rhynan, son of the King of Ixelles. He is super-duper sexy." Aren says behind me, leaning on the lockers. "She really did upgrade."
"Um. . .rude."
"You know I'm unable to lie. Come on everyone is outside waiting on us." I look around the room to see everyone is gone, damn that was fast but what do you expect from werewolves.
Outside, everyone is standing around. Most likely going over the battle plans. My mother says goodbye to the Beta and Gamma and comes over to me. Her hands clutch my face.
"Mom. . .don't."
"Don't what?"
"Don't get all sad and stuff. We'll be back before you know it." She pulls me into a bear hug, I can feel her nails sink into my back. "Mom your nails are clawing at me."
"Sorry, it's just you're going to do something dangerous, and I want to make sure you're ok. Be safe Alex." She kisses me on the cheek; her lips linger on it. She then goes back into the house. I look up at the sky, the starts shine bright throughout the it. I wonder if Quinn is looking at these same stars, if there are even windows where she is.
"I'm coming for you Quinn." I whisper to myself.
We trudge through the woods slowly, the leaves rustle against the wind as the light from the stars shine on us. We've been walking for the past hour and were still not here yet, we would have taken cars but it's pretty hard to hide a whole vehicle.
Beside me walks Zeta, I was against her coming since she has a mate and a child. I didn't want it to be on my hands if something happened to her, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. The great thing is that she was at the club with Quinneth, which I find quite shocking. Not Zeta at the club, but Quinneth. What was she doing there anyway? Obviously having fun without me.
What makes me more nervous is that my current girlfriend and ex-girlfriend met without me knowing. Quinneth is not the jealous type, but still, she could be pretty awkward in situations.
"Where did you meet?" asked Zeta. Her platinum blonde hair moves fiercely in the cool wind.
"Meet? Who?" I step over a rock; it be pretty embarrassing if I tripped. Especially in front of my hybrid ex-girlfriend.
"Quinneth. Did you guys meet at like the pack house or something. I know her grandpa is the pack doctor."
"No, uh one summer ago I saw her at the beach and realized she was my mate. The first time we had a conversation was when her class visited my father's business. After that has been bliss. Before being with me she had a boyfriend Myers, who was trash by the way." I see a look of amusement over her face. "Why are you looking like that?"
"Like what? Amused? Never thought you would meet your mate; I know I broke your heart when I met Rhynan." I shrug her off. In reality, I was pretty sad. She wasn't my first girlfriend, but the first one I had real feelings for. When she went back home Rhynan, the future heir of Ixelles, was in their kingdom for peace treaty work. At a late-night dinner, she came down the stairs and their eyes connected. She called and told me about it, I'd admit that I was pretty anger, but understood. If I had a girlfriend before meeting Quinneth I would have left her for Quinn too.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, you and Rhynan are meant to be. Like me and Quinneth are."
"You know she's really nice, your mate. She cared more about the color of my eyes than me and you dating. And she's a Zatitnik, one in a million that one." Interesting, I thought Quinneth would be all over me when she met one of my ex-girlfriends, guess she isn't one of those girls.
"She's pretty amazing, everything I could want in a girlfriend." A few warriors walk ahead of us, surveying the area making sure there aren't any enemies following us. You won't believe how many people have been trying to kill us.
"Your mate also told me that you guys weren't on speaking terms, that you lied to her." This is something I wanted to forget about, I just want to move on with her and leave the past in the past. When I found out she was missing my heart dropped through my chest, the thought of leaving her would leave a gaping hole in my heart.
"She didn't tell me that she was sneaking down to the prisons to see Sasha. Also, Sasha used her and used compulsion so she could get her out, that's why were in this situation right now. She wants revenge, and you know Sasha she doesn't stop until she's satisfied."
"Trust me I know."
"Don't worry I forgive her; I hope she forgives me. The way I talked to her, the way I looked at her I could tell it hurt her to the core. I- I never want her to look at me like that again." I stuff my hands in the front of my pocket. "Enough about me what about Rhynan, how is he?" We never met each other, due to him being an heir and all, so busy. Whereas I'm just the son of an Alpha in a pack he's probably never heard of.
"Stressed. His father is getting rather old, and can't do the work he usually does so Rhynan has been taking over. With that he hasn't had time to see me or Winona, she doesn't even remember what he looks like anymore and he's her father. Love can't always fill up the pain and lowliness." She looks elsewhere, most likely at the trees compilating everything.
While she does that, I drift off and think about Quinneth. Will it be like that for us, complicated and difficult. Would she even want to have children with me, it's not an easy job being a parent and running a pack? Also, my father's company I'll have to run someday. I want us to have a simple life, not one with complications.
Suddenly, my thoughts were interrupted by warriors holding their guns up to a tree. Their legs spread apart, gun cocked and loaded. Everyone around me halted, ready to pounce on someone at any moment. Zeta stands in front of me, her teeth stand out.
"Zeta wha- what are doing?"
"I'm protecting you." She says in a matter-of-fact tone.
"I can protect myself you know." I move her over to the side, she stumbles a little bit.
"Come out whoever you are." Kal says, his scouts stand behind him. Then they spread out around the area, trying to get the mysterious man or woman around the oak tree. It could be someone from Oslow, or some from Nygaard. We do have enemies around the world.
Behind the old, withering tree we all hear a groan. The type of groan when you get beat up to death, and are just at your wits end. That type of groan.
"What the hell is that?" Aren whispers under her breath.
"Sounds like. . .a human or something." replies Christian.
Coming around the tree is. . .Will. His body is filled with all types of scrapes and bruises, and his arm looks pretty broken. I've never seen someone look as bad as Will does, beaten up and torn down. What is he doing out here and who beat him up? He slides painfully down the tree; it looks like his legs are giving out.
"We need a medic!" my father screams out. Aren pushes through the crowd, a bag with a hospital cross is on the front. Me and Christian just stare at her as she checks out Will.
"Aren, what in god's name are you doing?" said Christian aghast.
"My job you dummy." She rolls her eyes.
"Since when did you become a doctor?" I ask. She rummages through her bag pulling out some bandages.
"I look some medic classes and got my license. You would know that if you asked about my life." Me and Christian just look at each other, unsure of what to say.
My father walks to the front where we are, he leans down to Will. "Who did this?" Is all he says.
Will head lifts up, "Sasha."
Of course, it would be Sasha, why would we think it would be anyone else. He looks. . .dazed and confused.
"Will what happened out here?" Charles asked.
"I- I can't remember anything. All I remember is that I was standing in the street in front of Quinn's car. A look of fear was all over her face, then I walked in the woods and stopped. One moment I was upright then I'm knocked out on the ground floor. The funny thing is that I had no control, somebody was taking over my body." My fathers face squeeze up, then he comes to realization about something.
"Compulsion. She used it on you that's why you don't know why you did what you did."
"She used you to get to Quinneth." I tell them. "She'll pay."
"We've got to keep moving, the tunnel should be coming up soon." said Henry.
"Wait, isn't that it right there." We look over to Christian to see him lifting up a piece of ground leading to the hidden tunnels.
"Guess we were more near than me thought. Ok, Aren stay here and fix up Will, 2 warriors will stay with you and make sure you're both ok. Everyone moves with me." My father walks first going down the tunnel. One by one we all jump down; the jump was deeper than we thought.
"Everyone stays close together, and stay alert." We all walk deep into the tunnels, old roots and sand hangs and falls from the ceiling. These tunnels looks like they haven't been used in years. Up ahead we see a door.
"You all ready."
"Yes Alpha." Everyone says, I'm ready to get Quinn back.
