Alexander's P.O.V.-
Parking my car, I walk hastily to the packhouse. I can't believe someone would expose themselves to humans. For centuries our kind has been trying to keep ourselves hidden, away from the vile humans. If they had any inkling that we existed they would experiment on us.
Busting through the glass doors to tell them what I have discovered I see Aren, Christian, and one of our pack scouts, Oscar, whispering to each other in the corner. Once they discover my presence, they instantly stop talking. By the looks on their faces, I can tell they already know the news.
Aren quickly walks over to me. "Come on, our fathers are starting a meeting and they can't start without you." We all walk down the long hallway until we reach the big meeting room. There are around 10 small meeting rooms in the house, but there's only one big meeting room that holds around 50 to 100 people. The room is never used often unless it's a serious matter. And this happens to be one.
Walking into the room, I hear a bunch of pack members all talking over each other. They all surround themselves with the big oak table yelling at each other. I and my friends all walk to the back of the room and sit in the chairs in the corner. We aren't permitted to sit at the table because we don't have an official title yet.
"Have you seen anything out there?" I asked my friend Oscar. Oscar's been a scout for over 2 years, he's one of the best scouts we've ever had. Scouts are people who are in touch with all the packs in the Nygaardian region, they make sure there aren't any suspicious people on our lands. It's a demanding job and takes a lot of skills.
He pushes his blonde hair out of his eyes and turns to me. "I haven't seen anyone with my own eyes, but I've smelt unfamiliar scents around the border. Only on the Golden Summit Pack borders not any other pack borders which is weird. All the scouts have decided that someone is targeting your pack, personally." He says waiting for me to respond.
"Do you know who's the one that exposed themselves on camera?" I asked. He shakes his head and purses his lips.
Before I'm able to ask more questions, my father, the Alpha, walks into the room. His powerful dominance radiates over the room. Everyone stands up and bows to him, once he walks over to the table he sits down and everyone follows. We wait for him to get all his papers in order, then he begins talking.
"There are many things that need to be discussed. First, we will talk about the elephant in the room, the werewolf who exposed themselves to the humans. Kal, what's the report on that?" Kal, the head of the scouts in the Nygaardian region stands up to speak.
"I have had my scouts all around the perimeter of the whole Nyaardian region. I had five scouts find unfamiliar scents around the eastern part of the land. Two others found a familiar smell around the southern part. One smell belongs to Sasha Sapphire, the Princess of Insofar. The second one belongs to a Khan. We can't tell which one since they all smell the same." Everyone begins to mumble to each other.
I look to Aren and Christian who are talking amongst each other. I knew that it was Sasha, but Khan.
No Khan has been seen since The Great War. They move in secret, completing their mission and heading back to the Island of Khans. A Khan is a world-class fighter whose job is to protect people all over the 7 Kingdoms.
What would a Khan want with us and Insofar?
"Everyone quiet down." My father says in his Alpha tone. Everyone immediately calms down. "Now, I want double the scouts on the perimeter, we will not notify the King unless we can't handle the situation. Kal, once you figure out who the Khan is and if you get another whiff of the princess let me know."
"Also, Alpha the wolf who exposed themselves it wasn't one of ours. We don't know who it was." Kal adds in.
"Alright, give me updates once you figure out who it is. Next, I see the Beta has something to say." Henry Holt, the Beta of our pack and Christian father, stands up.
"As Beta, I want to instate a curfew. Everyone, including adults, need to be in their room by 10:00. This will last until the mystery wolf and Sasha is found." Everyone groans at him.
"I support that Henry, thank you." My father nods to Henry. "With the warriors, I know they train at night, but now they will have to train in the morning. Charles will take care of that."
"Yes, Alpha." Charles, the Gamma of the pack, and Aren's father said.
"That concludes this meeting. Everyone can leave except for my son." All the people in the room turn to me, suspicion written all over their faces. As everyone walks out of the room, I walk over to my father. Once everyone is gone, he begins talking to me.
"I know you have been hanging out with Quinn." He tells me as he files his papers together. "I wanted you to stay away from her, but you are grown and in charge of your actions." Thank god he's on the Quinn train. I knew that he was aware of me hanging with Quinn her scent lingers on my clothes. I was wondering why he wasn't saying anything, but I guess he was waiting for the right moment. "Since you are hanging with her, she is your responsibility to watch out for."
"Yes sir."
"Also, when and if her powers come in, notify me. We don't want another recap of Rhella." I give him a nod and head out the door.
Walking down the hall, I see a picture of Rhella on the wall. She's wearing a long dress with ruffled sleeves. Her long black locks glide down her back onto the floor. I sit on the bench and observe her.
Rhella was the Queen of Nygaard in the 1800's. She was married to the then Alpha, Bernulf III. She was also the 10th human to ever be mated to an Alpha King. Most of the women before her that were Zatitniks were good women. They used their powers for good, whereas Rhella didn't. She was looking for revenge.
Before Bernulf was King, his father had tribes of humans killed to take their land. One of the tribes was Rhella's people. In fury, she swore to seek revenge on those who hurt her people. Years later she found out her mate was the Kings' son, Bernulf. When his father died, he became King and Queen.
She loved him truly but also had a hatred for him. Her powers were so strong that she was stronger than him. She wanted to end the Pergola line, that's the Royal Family of Nygaard, so none could live on like her people. She killed all the people's families who had a hand in killing her tribe and others also. Once they were all dead the people who were left came for her head.
We looked to our Kingdom and help from The Kingdom of Vermeer, in South America, to help take her down. With all the might in their bodies, they finally killed her. Ever since then there hasn't been a Zastitnik, until Quinneth. We don't know for sure if she even is one, but it could happen.
As I keep on thinking, my mother comes up to me and sits down. "What are you thinking about son?" She asked clutching onto my hand.
"Do you think that Quinneth could turn out like Rhella?" I asked her.
"Well, Rhella was in a different situation than Quinneth is. Rhella had a motive, does Quinneth have a motive?"
"She has pain inside of her. What if that pain turns to anger and destruction?" I say with a worried tone.
"Tell me of her character."
"She's kind, witty, smart, and beautiful. She listens to me when I talk and gives good advice." I say looking down at my hands.
"There you go. She is nothing like Rhella you said it yourself. Everything will be fine my son, the future is uncertain." She pats me on my shoulder and kisses the top of my head. Walking down the hall, I see her figure disappear.
I lay my head against the wall, my mind running amuck.
Quinneth's P.O.V.-
"Hey Lyra hand me the stapler." I tell Lyra as I'm holding onto the black glittery float skirt. She leans over to the side and hands it to me. I walk all around the float as I staple it, once I'm done, I step back and observe it.
"It's coming together," I say out loud. We've been working on this float for about 3 days now. A giant bat sits on top of it colored in black and white. Around it is tiny bats and our school's name 'Batcaver's High School'.
"I thought this was going to look weird, but I like it," Lyra says analyzing the float. I agree with her. When Dana and the others showed us the blueprint of the float it looked... horrible. Now to see it all built up, it looks amazing.
"Me too."
"Ok guys, you can all take a 30-minute break. Be back here on time." Dana yells out to everyone.
Everyone puts down what they were doing and walks over to their friends, or leaves out of the gym. I and Lyra go over to sit on the stage.
"I called you last night, but you didn't answer," Lyra tells me sipping on her water. I did see that she called, but when Alexander left suddenly, I was so occupied I never called her back.
"Sorry, I had Alexander over and then h-." Before I could finish my sentence, she cuts me off.
"Wait, Alexander was over?" I give her a nod.
"All of a sudden we started talking about the human/wolf thing and he freaked out and left," I tell her.
"Maybe he's scared of wolves." She said shrugging her shoulders.
"I don't think so, Ly. It was something else... I can't put my finger on it."
"Hey Lyra, come over here we got to show you something." I look over to see Mary waving her hand for her to come over.
"Go. I got to use the bathroom." She skips on over while I walk over to the bathroom. Going inside, I do my business then walk to the sink. As I'm washing my hands, I lean up to see someone I never thought I'd see again.
Myers.
I lean against the bathroom sink, clenching on to the sides of it. His brown hair is wild and he looks in distress. Bruises decorate his face to his neck and arms.
"Hey, baby." He says bringing his hand up to my cheek. I lean my head to the side in disgust by his touch. All I feel is his dry fingers rake against my skin, breath laying against my neck.
"Get away," I say my voice shaking.
"No one to protect you now, just you and me."
My hands leave the sink and I push him against the wall. He rises from the floor and tightens his grip on my arms.
"Someone has some balls huh. Did lover boy give you some confidence?" He asked. "Tell him I know what he is and that this isn't over." He throws me against the wall and disappears. I stand there for a few minutes and clutch my neck, my heart beating out of my chest. My breath hitches in my throat, I can't breathe, I need to get out of here.
Walking out of the bathroom, I hang on to the wall while walking out the school door. Once I feel the fresh air on my face, I began to breathe the same again. How did he know where I would be? How did he get here?
I haven't seen him since the night of my and Alexander's date. Not a text nor a phone call from him. Didn't even see him around school either. I start to think of what he said in the bathroom.
What did he mean about that he knew who Alexander was? Is there something about him that I don't know? Is that the reason he left so suddenly last night; was I close? All these questions rake my mind that I don't notice someone behind me.
"Hey." I hear someone say behind me, I jump in fright.
"Don't do that!" I scream as I clutch my shirt, fright dancing in my eyes.
"Sorry. Hey... Hey, it's me Alexander I won't hurt you." He rests his hands on my face trying to read the expression on it. "What's wrong?" His brows furrow.
"Myers." Once he hears that name his jaw clenches and I feel the heat rise to his hands. The heat warms my face and helps me stay calm.
"Where is he I'll kill him." He says through his clenched jaw. He drops his hands from my face and begins looking around aimlessly. I grab him by his hands and bring him close to me, he can't leave me I need him to stay. Wait? I NEED him.
"He's gone, Alexander," I say to him. His eyes direct themselves back to me.
"Where did he go?" He asked.
"I don't know. When I was in the bathroom, he cornered me. He told me things." I say whispering the last part, but he picked up on it.
"Things? What kinds of things?" His voice is now hard and demanding.
"He told me that it wasn't over," I say looking into his eyes. He searches around for something to say.
"What wasn't over?"
"I have no idea. Also, that he knows things about you." A look on his face lets me know he may know what Myer's was referring to.
"He's just playing with your head that's all." Yeah, maybe. If there was something about Alexander, then Alexander would have told me himself. He's trustworthy.
"Why are you here?" I asked him. Not that I'm complaining or anything I've been waiting to see him all day. I thought he would come by my house or something.
"I brought you food." He picks up a bag off the ground. Reading the bag, it says 'Burg-oh-wow'.
I laugh, followed by a sincere smile. "I was craving that all day. It's like you read my mind, stalker." I say jokingly.
"Whatever." We walk back inside the school. As soon as we enter the gym all the girls turn to him. They all huddle with their friends, whispering to each other. Wonder what that's all about.
I tap on Lyra's shoulder. She turns around and smiles at me, once she looks behind me her smile turns into a grin.
"What's the hottie doing here?" She asks smirking at me. I turn around to see Alexander leaning up against the door. He waves at me and Lyra, we return it.
"He brought me to lunch so I was going to go eat it with him. You be ok alone?" I asked her. I would ditch Alexander for her, even though I don't want to, I would. That's what best friends do, ditch hot guys that bring delicious, greasy burgers.
"It's fine I got the girls, go get your groove on." She said shaking my hips. I swat her hands away.
"Stop mom, your embarrassing me. See you in 30." I turn around, I and Alexander walk back outside the doors. The lurking eyes bury into his back, I wonder if he noticed.
"Where are we going to eat?" He asked me.
"Well, there's my car," I respond. He pulls me back to him and shakes his head.
"Hell no. I'm practically a giant your car is way too small." He is really big. Not just with muscles, but height.
"Fine then, how about your car," I suggest. He gives me an Ok and we procced over to his car.
"If I could eat this every day I would," I tell Alexander while taking another bite out of my burger. He puts more ketchup on his. I told him it takes away the flavor of the burger, then he proceeded to put more on just to spite me.
"I know you would. I'm hooked on this Quinn, ever since we went there, I can't get enough." He laughs as he wipes his hands on a napkin.
"Glad I could be the cause of your addiction." Once the car gets quiet, I ask him the question that has been racking my mind since yesterday night.
"Why did you leave my house all suddenly?" I asked him taking a sip of my soda. He looks out the window of the car then back at me.
"It was nothing. My father needed me to come home, urgent problem." The words come out rushed.
"I hope everything is ok." I look at him with a worried expression. I could tell he wasn't saying the truth, but I didn't want to push him.
"It is, doesn't worry." He assured me.
"You know, I don't think your father likes me," I tell him looking down at my food. He grabs my hands ever so delicately and holds them close to his chest.
"What makes you say that?" They vibrate against him.
"At the presentation last week, he cut his eyes at me. Also, when my class visited Germani Industries he looked at me like I did something wrong."
"He's just... he doesn't know you that's all. Trust me he doesn't hate you." He plants two gentle kisses on my hands.
Looking at my watch, I see that my break Is almost up. I don't want to leave him, but everything good must come to an end. My hands reluctantly leave his hard grip, they feel so cold.
"Looks like it's time for me to get back. If Dana catches me coming in late she'll be mad."
"Dana.. the one who's holding a vendetta against you?"
"That's the one. Before I open up the car door, he pulls me by my arm to him.
"Are you sure your alright?" He asked coddling my cheek. I rest my hands on his giving him a fair smile.
"Now that your here I am. Call me?" I say hopefully.
"Wouldn't miss it." I lean into him and lay a kiss on his cheek. Throwing our trash in the bag, I grab my phone and get out of his car. I stand in the driveway as he drives off.
Walking back inside the building, I think to myself. We're kissing each other on the cheek and hands. Every day we hang out, call and text. What does that make us?
"Ready to get back to work?" Lyra asked me.
"Sure." I throw our trash in the garbage and get back to work.
