“Angel, I got your food,” I said then, stepping over to Suki as she gazed up at me.
“Took you a while,” she said then, annoyed. “I was waiting for too long.”
“I apologize, Sweetheart,” I said then, setting the plate of cake in front of her as well as the hot chocolate. “They had to make the drink fresh, is all.”
She blinked and gazed down at the food before her lashes lowered. “Cake? I thought you were going to buy me a salad or something.”
I just smiled when I set a freshly polished fork in front of her. “You’re plenty skinny, Angel. And plus, I know how much you love sweets. You have a child’s pallet.”
She just rolled her eyes and cut off the bit of the cake, taking a bite seconds later.
I watched her cheeks warm, and my smile widened.
“Which reminds me,” I said then, making her gaze up curiously, “I got you a gift.”
“A gift?” she said then, blinking. “What is it?”
I just lightly pulled a bag out from behind me and handed it to her.
She took it hesitantly and gazed down at it.
She then shrugged and shuffled through it for a moment before pulling out the thing I bought her.
She immediately gasped, eyes widening.
It was the bunny she was so interested in; the stuffed bunny with the beautiful pink dress and frilly eye patch.
Her lashes immediately lowered, and I smiled when she clutched the bunny tightly. “Why did you…?”
“You seemed interested in it,” I stated then. “I had five minutes to spare while he was brewing your drink. And who am I to not get my boss something she’s interested in? I wouldn’t be a very good assistant, would I? Let alone a good person.”
She just stared down at it intently before her lips thinned.
She just set it on her lap and hugged it with one arm, continuing to eat her cake.
I just smiled, not expecting a “thank you” from her stubborn ass, but knowing the fact that she liked it so much was enough for me.
Yes, a child at heart.
That’s what I love about her most, is her secretive childish desire.
