“You… are insane,” I said, brows drawing together when I found blood splattered across the hallway.
Will came out from behind me. “Oh, yes. I forgot about that.”
I just pinched my nose, holding my breath as I stepped through the copper-scented halls, and when I made it to the staircase, I continued further down until I made it to the main level.
I then released my breath and made my way over to the dining table. “Pancakes, I heard?”
He pulled out my chair. “You heard correctly.”
I glanced back at him when I sat, and he pushed my chair back in. “We need to have a little talk.”
He just smiled. “Why? Did I do something?”
I just sighed and gazed back over at the table. “You’re my personal assistant, yes?”
“Indeed.”
“Then you clean up after yourself,” I stated, looking back at my plate. “I’m tired of the messes you keep making. The blood in the halls, the floors covered with disgusting bodies… let alone the police activity after all those people that have been murdered recently. Which I know is you.” I gazed up at him. “I signed with you, so you’d help me find my killer, not to be your maid. So clean up after yourself.”
He just lowered his lashes.
I started cutting into my pancakes. “I want the hallway to be spotless by the time I’m finished eating.”
His smile grew a little. “My, my… feeling superior, aren’t you? All because I must do as you say.”
I gazed up from my plate, glancing over at him in warning. “I don’t like waking up to find death and gore around me. I’d rather sit and have a peaceful morning coffee. So excuse me for being human and being rather snotty to a very unamusing sight.”
“Demanding that I change your clothes,” he said then, making me gaze up again, “making me clean up after you, cook for you, protect you, hold you at night, take care of you, save you… I’m not just a personal assistant, am I? I’m a janitor, maid, bodyguard, parental figure… even a personal assassin? My… I might as well be a servant, hmm?”
“And what if you are?” I retorted then, making him smile wider. “It’s not like you can do anything about it.”
“Indeed,” he said then, “I cannot.”
I looked back down at my plate. “I’m halfway through my breakfast. You better get cleaning. There’s a lot of blood up there. I don’t like a servant who’s messy.”
He just chuckled. “You’re having much fun with this, aren’t you?”
“Indeed, I am,” I said then, chewing my food. “Go make it spotless, Will.”
He smiled, closing his eyes kindly. “Consider it done.”
And he vanished.
I just gazed down at my meal, chewing more slowly now that he was gone, and I took a glass of orange juice and swallowed some, setting it aside before I stared down at the table.
I couldn’t believe he had the nerve to enter my dreams last night and make me relieve… that night.
I closed my eyes and breathed for a moment.
I wanted to forget. I wanted to forget again.
“Done,” he said from behind me.
I screamed and flipped around, finding him standing beside my chair with a smile.
“Aw, did I scare you?” he said then, smirking. “Looks like I did well. You still have a couple bites left.”
I breathed for a moment before my lashes lowered.
I just watched him. “It’s spotless?”
“Yes.”
“All of it?”
“Yes.”
I just turned back toward my meal and kept eating.
“Do you not believe me?” he said then.
“I believe you,” I replied. “Just don’t do it again.”
I felt his eyes burn into my back. “Of course, mistress. I apologize.”
After finishing my last bite, I stood and brushed off my skirt, gazing back over at him. “Clean the table.”
His eyes just glowed a slight red as his smile remained. “Are you growing more strict of me? How ruthless.”
I just smiled back, walking past him. “One must teach a child how to work.”
He remained silent, but I felt his amusement grow.
How far could I go with this?
The answer? Endlessly.
He had to do as I said, after all. With no question. The only exception is if I didn’t mean it, or if my life, mind, soul, or my safety was in jeopardy.
For example, if I wanted him to go buy groceries while sitting in the park, he could go against my words even if I meant it, because he and I both knew that those gang and mafia pissers were everywhere.
He had to remain close to me. That was his duty.
But this? I could do this all day.
I could tell him to do my laundry, clean the fireplace, do the dishes, sweep the floors. Make EVERYTHING spotless within ten seconds.
He had to do it, and I knew very well he could. It just inconvenienced him.
And I loved inconveniencing him.
I felt his eyes back on me before I walked back up the stairs. “Oh, and when you’re done cleaning the table, ready me for work. I expect you to be at my bedroom door by the time I get there.”
His tone was rich with amusement. “Would you like a bath or a shower?”
“Shower,” I said then. “But clean the table first. You have about five seconds.”
He chuckled again. “Consider it done, Angel.”
