I stared at the ceiling in my bedroom, watching the shadows from the trees outside dance along the paint.
Will sent me to bed a bit ago, but I couldn’t fall asleep until now… and even now I was half asleep.
I rolled over onto my bed, shutting my eyes as my breaths softened.
As I buried my face into my pillow, I felt the wind outside shift, sending soft howls through the house.
I relaxed into the bed.
But my bedroom door suddenly opened.
I was too tired to look.
Footsteps echoed around me before it circled to the other side of the bed.
A figure drew the covers back, and I parted my lashes. “Will?”
“Shhh…” he said then, getting in beside me, “go back to sleep.”
“I wasn’t asleep in the first place,” I said then.
“You can at least close your eyes,” he said then, voice gentle.
I listened, letting my lashes flutter shut as my breaths softened.
He just slipped his hand through mine, gently running his thumb along my knuckles. “Good night, my Angel. Sleep well. And tomorrow, we’ll go hat shopping.”
I just smiled, letting the exhaustion consume me.
