“You’re up early,” I said as I entered the kitchen, finding Will at work at the stove, preparing breakfast. “Is this some special occasion?”
He just chuckled and shook his head, smiling over at me. “No, I just want to please my girlfriend. Is that alright with you?”
I beamed then, giggling. “Definitely! Your girlfriend loves being pleased!”
He went back to work. “Go sit at the table. I should be done here in a second. Just have to plate it.”
“Alright!” I said giddily, skipping over to the table.
I plopped down onto the dining chair, kicking out my legs in anticipation.
Will just came over to me and set the plate down, and my eyes widened in excitement.
It was a large plate piled with fluffy pancakes, and there was syrup spread along the entire platter.
I sliced my knife into it, giggling when I cut it into pieces.
He watched me in amusement as he sat on the other end of the table.
I gazed up then, mouth full. “You’re not going to eat?”
“I don’t usually eat breakfast,” he stated honestly.
I gazed down at my plate then, continuing to slaughter my pancakes and consume them.
After a moment, he set his elbows on the table and leaned into them. “So, Suki… I wanted to talk to you about something.”
I gazed up then, cheeks full. “Yes?”
He stared at me for a moment, his expression serious and a tad concerned, but he remained calm. “About that incident with… Aiden.”
“Oh, him?” I said, shaking off my hand. “He’s a goof. I eat now.”
Will watched me curiously as I continued diving deep into my food.
“You know… I have to ask.” Will just leaned his chin into his hands, and I gazed over at him curiously.
A wide, fox smile spread across his expression, something I had never seen on him before.
I dropped my fork, shock rumbling through me.
He kept the smile, eyes glowing dangerously.
I swallowed something hard, unsure of what was happening right now.
“Suki,” he said then, lashes lowering, “how long are we going to play this game?”
I was silent, staring at him in horror.
He set his cheek in his hand. “Don’t look at me like that. You know very well what I’m talking about.”
I then looked down to the table, picking up my napkin and drying my lips.
But I still remained silent.
“I’ve been playing along,” he continued coolly, tone dark and sinister. “I’ve been patient, waiting for you to make a move and shatter me. I will be honest… I almost bought this cute, innocent, nice-girl act. I must commend you for your acting skills.”
I kept my face hidden. “I don’t understand.”
“Don’t lie to me,” he said then, lashes lowering. “I’ve been patient and I played along nicely. Don’t you think it’s time for you to tell me why you’re really here?”
This was concerning… this personality took a one-eighty in two seconds.
He wasn’t who he portrayed.
Who was he really?
“Suki,” he pressed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
He just smirked. “You’re very smart, I’ll give you that. Very smart, indeed.”
I kept my face hidden.
“Now,” he said then, eyes darkening, “drop the act. It’s boring me.”
I just kept silent, keeping my face hidden.
But a wide smile spread across my face.
