I gazed up hazily as I floated in a black void, my entire form covered by endless black feathers as I lay on nothing.
“The terms of our agreement,” a void said, echoing through the darkness, “is clear. I will help you find the culprit in your sister’s murder, protect you from harm, and do anything you say. In return, you belong to me, and after the murderer is found, I shall consume every ounce of blood in your body.”
“Yes,” I said then, “those are the terms.”
“Once you agree,” he said then, his voice making my bones chill, “there’s no turning back.”
“I know.”
“So, I ask you once more, Suki Quinn,” he said then, “do you wish to sign this contract with me?”
“I do.”
“Good,” the voice said then, chuckling, “because you now belong to me.”
My figure lifted into midair, and I breathed shakily when the feathers fell off my form and drifted to the ground below me.
I suddenly felt a sharp pain on my side, and I winced, whimpering.
But when I gazed down, I saw blood slipping down the side of my stomach, and a small, crescent moon-shaped scar deepened into my skin like it was carved into it.
I blinked when it burst with light, and I tipped my head back, feeling some sort of warmth burst through me.
“Your mind,” the voice said as my hair blew in a sudden wind. “Your soul. Your body. And your blood. All belong to me.
“And I promise I will care for them.”
