“This hurts me more than this hurts you, I swear on it,” Will said then, tipping his head to the side as he smirked.
I watched lazily as he held a man by the throat over the edge of a bridge on a highway, and the man’s legs were kicking out frantically as he choked on Will’s grip.
“Honestly… you keep coming after her when your men vanish from existence? Can you not connect two and two? You are a bunch of idiots, aren’t you?” he teased then. “I’ll kill each and every one of you, I promise. So just hush, my little child. It’ll be their turn to die after you. I won’t leave anyone untouched.”
He then let go of his neck.
The man screamed, arms flailing as he fell off the bridge and toward the highway.
I distantly heard a loud crash! and scattered parts of his body slapping onto the asphalt. Will looked back at me, snapping his fingers with a smile.
By the sound of the flowing traffic, I knew the body had vanished.
I just stared at him as he adjusted his cufflinks and yawned, looking back over at me. “You’re staring at me quite intently, there. Is there something on my face?”
“No,” I said then, adjusting my steampunk hat back in place, “I’m just wondering why you have to kill once a day. Is it part of your regimen?”
He just smirked. “A demon must do what he can to keep his victim safe.”
“Uh—huh,” I said then, sighing. “Whatever. I’m becoming desensitized to this stuff and I wonder if that’s a bad thing or not.”
He was suddenly behind me, making me stiffen when he whispered in my ear, “Why does it matter if it’s a bad thing? You like being bad, don’t you?”
I stared forward, feeling my cheeks heat. “Breath… breath on neck.”
“Does that bother you?” he whispered then, purposely drawing out the last word so the heat of his breath spread along my skin.
I just closed my eyes tightly.
He suddenly stood and smirked, glancing to the left. “You’ve been standing there for quite some time. Would you mind offering a little courtesy and show yourselves?”
I looked to where he spoke, and I blinked when I saw a man and a women step out from behind a car.
The man looked in his twenties—having dark hair and black eyes—and the women looked around the same age, although her hair was also black, but her eyes were a sparkly amber.
And they both had rune-like tattoos all over their upper arms and chest, the man’s were black, and the women’s were gold.
“Will?” I said then, prompting a question.
He clearly knew what I was talking about. “Angels. You can tell by the runes. Black symbolizes fallen; gold symbolizes archangels.”
I then stared back at them. “Where are there angels following us?”
“Your question is the same as mine,” Will responded.
“You’re North, right?” the girl said then.
Will blinked. “Excuse me, who?”
“Does he look like me?” the man snapped. “It’s not him.”
She just crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at him.
The boy just looked up at us. “My name is Sebastian, and this is my wife, Skye.” He gestured to the girl next to him.
She raised her hand. “Sup.”
“We are investigating a string of murders happening near here and we thought my idiot brother was involved,” Sebastian explained, looking back at Will. “Turns out it’s… whatever you are.”
Will just smirked. “My, my. So rude. Didn’t they teach you manners at angel academy?”
Sebastian just glared.
“So you know we’re angels?” the girl, Skye, said. “That means you’re not who you portray. Who are you?”
Will just bowed a little. “My name is William. Nice to meet you.”
Sebastian just nodded to me. “Who’s the girl?”
Will glanced back at me, but I remained silent. He just gazed back up, smirking. “She is none of your concern.”
They both just watched us, and I breathed out a sigh, feeling inconvenienced at this situation.
“No runes,” the girl stated then, “odd eye color, chilled personality, kills with no remorse. You’re daem, aren’t you?”
Will just gazed up, chuckling. “At your service.”
“What would a daem want with a girl?” Skye said then, glancing over at me. “Aren’t you guys usually loners?”
Will remained silent for a moment before his lashes lowered. “I do not appreciate a wad of angels impeding on my daily business. Now… if you could please leave us to our tasks. I bit you good day.”
We all remained silent.
I gazed up at them as a sudden wind gust through the alleyway, and I blinked when my shirt blew with the wind, exposing my stomach a little.
The moment I gazed up, Sebastian’s eyes were on me.
He then gazed up at Will, smirking. “I see. It’s all clear now.”
Will’s brow arched. “Excuse me?”
“You signed with her,” Sebastian stated, pointing to his side. “The wind rode up her shirt. The scar of a crescent moon. Clear as day.”
I suddenly wrapped my arms around myself, hiding the mark.
Will’s fingers ticked a little, and I gazed up at him, noticing his eyes glowing a dark red.
He was either getting extremally pissed or he was just irritated. I could never tell with him.
“Well,” Will said then, smiling now, “I should really get my lady home. She hasn’t had supper yet and had a grueling day of work.”
“Wait,” the Skye girl said before we could leave, “a daem… playing servant?”
I piped up then, glaring. “He is NOT a SERVANT! He’s doing all of this stuff out of free will!”
“And his payment?” Sebastian said then, brow arching.
I silenced then, looking over at Will.
He and Sebastian were exchanging a dark look; I swear if there was glass nearby, it would shatter if one of them glared at it.
“Oh,” Will said then, smile sharpening as he smiled, “I apologize for my rudeness… but who was this other… daem you were searching for?”
Sebastian just crossed his arms over his chest, and it was Skye who spoke:
“His name is North or… Elias. And he has a girl with him named Alice.”
“Ah, I see,” Will said then, eyes glowing a slight red. “North, is it? Oh, yes… I believe I know him.”
“What?” Skye said then, brows drawing together.
“Has he been here recently?” Sebastian demanded.
Will just gazed up. “I saw him after the angel leader collapsed, and the daem were let on Earth’s surface. He was here with that girl you mentioned. I do not know where he went or why, but he was here.” He then looked up. “I provided you with my information. In return, I ask politely that you stay out of my way…” his smile sharpened, “angel scum.”
Sebastian just glared daggers, and Skye scoffed.
“You should’ve stayed in hell,” Sebastian growled. “All of your kind should of.”
“Your kind has made sins, too, my friend,” Will responded, lashes lowering. “Don’t place the blame on me.”
He just spun around and walked off, and that girl, Skye, followed him.
I gazed up at Will as they all left, and I finally spoke, “Do you despise angels?”
He gazed down at me then. “Is it that obvious?”
I gave him a bored look. “You made it obvious.”
He smirked then, starting to walk, and I followed him. “Yes, I hate them.”
“Is what he said true…?” I asked Will then. “That daem just recently started coming onto Earth?”
“Indeed,” he responded, “after the angel leader was killed, Lucifer got fed up and released daem to Earth… So, now many of us are roaming around Earth, and many others find hell more feasible.”
“Did you recently come here?” I asked him then.
He just gazed down at me, smirking. “Sweetheart, I was always here.”
“How?” I demanded.
He just chuckled, gazing up at the sky. “It’s been centuries, I feel. I was here during the medieval era, here during the world wars and the cold war. I watched the human population destroy themselves and build back up again… so long.”
I blinked, tipping my head to the side. “Do you actually look human? Or do you have another form?”
He gazed down at me with a smirk. “I look human, but I can alter my age if I wanted to.”
“Oh, cool,” I responded then. “So… if the other daem were in other places, how did you get here first?”
He smirked. “Very sneakily. I was sent to hell, but they forgot about me, so I ended up altering my path and ended up here.”
“Neat,” I said this time. “So… why don’t you like angels?”
He just smiled a little more. “Angels and daem never really got along. We’ve always despised each other for our opposites. Even fallen.”
I nodded.
I suppose it makes sense.
