It was nice honestly… holding her. Vampire demons didn’t do this often, it was a tad depressing.
I gazed down at Suki, finding her fast asleep on my chest, breathing ever so gently.
I brushed her hair away from her face, watching her curiously as she whimpered and turned her face back into my neck.
“You’re going to be tough, aren’t you?” I said then, chuckling as I pushed her hair over her shoulder. “Ah, such a pain.”
I just lightly brushed my thumb over the vein in her neck, and she whimpered again, shifting back into me.
“Uh, I’m so hungry,” I said, leaning down to lightly nip her skin.
She closed her eyes tightly, shifting again.
“Food tastes the best when you’re attached to it,” I said then, smiling a little. “Why did you offer such a thing to me? You’re heartless, aren’t you? Making me wait.”
“Stop…” she said sleepily. “You’re annoying me….”
I just ran my fingers through her hair. “Fine. Go back to sleep.”
She relaxed back into me then, making my lashes lower.
“Give you all my blood, she says,” I mumbled. “Find my sister’s killer first, she says.”
“Can you please be quiet,” she said too kindly.
I gazed down at her then. “Oh, I apologize, your majesty.”
She just closed her eyes. “Maybe it was a better decision to sign with Aiden, then.”
My eyes flashed red.
I forcefully caught her skin and shoved her to face me.
She just smiled at my angry expression.
“What,” I said then, “did you just say?”
There was no level of fear in her eyes despite the rage clearly swarming mine.
“I said Aiden might’ve done better,” she repeated with no hesitancy.
My fingers deepened into her chin, but not enough to hurt. “Never say that again.”
“I apologize…” she said then, closing her eyes as her smile remained. “It seems as if I struck a nerve.”
I let go of her chin then, making an impatient sound. “Go back to bed. Now.”
She stood from my lap and brushed off her skirt, giving me a dark look before she turned and left the room.
I immediately snapped my gaze to her direction.
Hold on… what was that expression?
It was definitely not amusement… what was her expression?
Something was wrong.
I stood and went after her, pushing open her bedroom door.
She was on the carpet, trying to shuffle herself under the bed.
“What are you doing?” I demanded.
She froze and hit her head, and I winced at the sound.
I looked back at her when she crawled back out, rubbing her head a little as she pouted.
“What are you doing?” I said again.
She just gazed up hazily before looking away. “Looking for something.”
“Do not lie to me,” I said, glaring now, “I saw you gathered sleeping material. Were you going to sleep under there?”
She still avoided eye contact. “Maybe.”
I made an impatient sound and stepped over to her. “What is your problem, hmm? You entered my life, asked for a contract, signed it with me, and now you’re acting insane.”
She gazed up then, offended. “Hey! I am not insane!”
I gave her a look.
“Because I wasn’t diagnosed yet,” she said quietly, looking away.
“Do you mind explaining what’s going on here?” I said then.
“I don’t think the writer knows what’s going on here,” she responded then.
“Excuse me?” I demanded.
“Nothing.”
I just sighed and looked at my watch before gazing down at her. “Just tell me what you want already.”
She was silent.
“Suki.”
“I don’t know what I want. I just want to find my sister, but I keep getting close to you and it’s irritating me. You’re going to kill me!”
“We already established that, and I still do not understand your point.”
She gazed over at me then. “Will… what do… you want?”
I blinked then. “What?”
She looked a tad shy. “What do you want? You know… because you know what I want. How I want to get close, but… what about you?”
I watched her for a moment. “Are you psychoanalyzing me? Because it isn’t going to work. I’m a demon. We are physically impossible to psychoanalyze.”
“Can you just answer the question?” she gave me an annoyed look.
But a voice came from behind us:
“Oh, so this is where you live.”
I immediately turned and gazed behind me, finding a familiar figure standing in the doorway of the bedroom.
Suki shrank behind me, whimpering.
“Seriously?” I said to Aiden. “Can’t you knock first?”
He just smirked. “Sorry, but… I have other priorities, I’m afraid.” He then looked down at Suki. “Look at you, little thing. Aren’t you adorable?”
“I’m in my twenties,” she said, annoyed. “I am not adorable.”
“Oh, you’re totally adorable,” I shot back. “Anyways,” I continued on despite her glaring at me, “why are you here now, Aiden? We are a little preoccupied.”
He just set his head against the doorframe. “Preoccupied? Really? All this flirt talk is going to make me vomit.”
I just remained unfazed.
“Anyways,” he said, sighing, “I smelled something delicious, so… I came to investigate.”
Suki remained behind me, but I felt my eyes glow a slight red, although I remained calm. “Oh?”
“Her blood,” Aiden said then, gazing over at Suki as his fangs extended downward. “It’s glorious. You won’t mind if I have a little meal, would you?”
Suki just took a step backward.
“I would mind,” I said then, remaining in place. “Do not. She does not like people she doesn’t know slicing their disgusting teeth in her neck.”
Aiden just scoffed. “Will, you’ve always been a softie, you know. Depressing, honestly. You all make me sick.”
He then licked his teeth. “Look at her, such a weakling. So innocent in those eyes, but such a dark past. It haunts you every day, doesn’t it, Sweetheart?”
My lashes lowered as my eyes flickered, shining a bright red.
Suki swallowed something hard.
“Don’t worry,” he said then, eyes darkening, “it doesn’t matter how slutty you are, seeking sexual comfort in another demon. I can end it right here, right now for you. All your pain, gone. Something he doesn’t have the heart to do.”
“I’m… not a slut.” Her voice shook.
“Don’t lie to yourself,” he said in a dark tone. “I can see the lust for him in your eyes. But it’s drowned out by the pain… I’m sorry, I’m not one who likes convincing. I am hungry and you’re close to me, so….”
He shot forward then, jaw extending like a snake as his eyes glowed a dark red.
I moved at light speed, catching his face in my hand.
He froze in front of me, but I bent my fingers inward.
I heard his bones crack, and he screamed against my grip.
“When can I get it in your head?” I said, gritting my teeth as I bent them further, feeling them pierce his skull as he cried out. “I don’t like it when others touch what’s mine.”
He writhed against my hand, catching my wrist and clawing at my hand.
I just sliced my fingers deeper, piercing them into his brain as he screamed.
“She’s mine,” I growled. “DO NOT TOUCH HER AGAIN.”
I then crushed his skull inward, and he screeched when his blood splattered against the walls, coating them in a dark red.
Until his headless corpse fell to the ground, clattering like a puppet who lost his strings.
I just smiled licking his blood off my hand. “Mmm… so bitter, but yet so satisfying.”
Suki remained silent.
I set my hand against my side, gazing around before sighing. “My, my… what a mess I made, hmm?”
I then turned to gaze over at Suki who stared at me in shock.
“What?” I said, smirking. “You’d never seen me kill before?”
She shook her head but couldn’t shake the amazement in her expression.
“Usually when people see me kill,” I said, licking the blood again, “they run miles and miles away. You are a sight for sore eyes, aren’t you?”
She continued staring at me in shock.
“Come now,” I said then, giving her a small smile, “you didn’t think I would allow my precious angel to be taken, would you?”
“Well… he almost killed me,” she said then.
“Indeed, he did.” I immediately appeared behind her, feeling her breath catch when I slid my hands around her sides and lifted her shirt, revealing the crescent-shaped mark on her side. “Have you forgotten?” My breath heated her neck as I ran my finger along it, and she closed her eyes tightly. “You belong to me. No one lays their hands on what’s mine.”
She tipped her head back and set it on my shoulder, and I just smiled before I caught her wrist and flipped her around so her chest collided with mine.
“Tell me,” I said, setting my hands on her hips, “what does the story of a killer say? When it’s scribbled in the blood of his prey? When did the light become so dark? Like the dangers sparked by the day?”
She just gazed up at me, eyes sparkling.
“You willingly fell into my claws,” I said then, running my finger along her cheek. “You belong to me now, Suki Quinn. No one will ever touch you again.” I just smiled and tipped her chin up. “Apart from me, of course.”
“There’s blood…” she whispered, “everywhere.”
“Does that bother you?” I said.
“You shattered his skull with your fist like it was a wine glass,” she explained quietly.
I just smiled, pulling her against me. “It smells delicious, no?”
She shook her head, face paling a little.
My lashes lowered, and I lightly set my hand over her eyes, hearing her breath catch. “If it bothers you, then don’t look, okay?”
“Okay,” her voice was small.
“Close your eyes,” I whispered then, removing my hand. “Good job. Now for the best part,” I then lifted her like a child, letting her set her head on my shoulder. “The escape. Ah, no, I lied.” I carried her out from the room. “Killing that asshat was better.”
She kept her eyes closed as I carried her. “Where are we going?”
“Let’s find my angel a better house,” I said then. “She deserves full hospitality from her loyal demon, no?”
She just smiled and buried her face in my neck. “Okay.”
