"Where are we?" I asked. Peering through the window, I tried to make out the building we were approaching.
Kaylee glanced at me from the drivers seat. "This is where Toni goes to college."
"Why are we here?"
"I figured we'd start small and work our way up," she said as she parked the car. "And this way we can kill two birds with one stone."
"How so?"
"You ask a lot of questions," she said with a sigh. After parking the car, she scanned over the three duffel bags in the back seat. She grabbed one, slung it over her shoulder and stepped out of the car. "Just enjoy the fun, everything will be revealed in time."
I exited the car and walked alongside her. I debated offering to carry the bag for her, but something told me she'd beat me with it if I tried. She'd call it 'demeaning' or something like that. I stuffed my hands into the pockets of my black jean's, surveying the dead parking lot. There wasn't a soul in sight. Most of the street lamps were either broken, or didn't work, providing very little light.
Kaylee shoved through the back entrance and started for a flight of stairs when there was a perfectly good elevator just down the hall.
I started after her, gesturing over my shoulder. "We're not taking the elevator?"
"The few people that might actually be awake right now, are drunk off their asses and plan on using that elevator." She said, keeping her voice just above a whisper. "Not to mention, there are cameras over there. On the off chance security goes looking, I don't want to give them any reason to think we were ever here."
Logical.
Here I always imagined her diving in head first. As it turned out, she thought this out carefully.
After a few flights of stairs, we stopped on the third floor. She knew exactly where she was going. In front of one of the dorms, she handed me the duffel bag, crouched down and began picking the lock.
"How do you know this person isn't inside asleep?" I asked. "We're not breaking in while they're inside.. right?"
She didn't answer.
"Kaylee."
She sighed, popping the door open. "What did I tell you about the questions? No, he's not here. I have it on good authority that he's at a party and will be crashing there for the night."
"Rommates?"
"No more questions."
She grabbed me by the shoulder and shoved me inside. I looked around, it was a two bedroom, not very impressive.
"Put the bag on the bed."
I did as instructed, watching her dig around and come out with a screw driver in one hand and a black sharpie in the other. She handed me the screw driver, gesturing towards the door.
"Take the door off the hinges."
"Seriously?"
She rolled her eyes and turned towards the collage of pictures on the wall, ignoring me.
Convinced that there must be a method to her madness, I started at my task. I watched her draw squiggly lines over the printed photos, a few crude remarks and things I'd rather not mention. It wasn't until I was done with the door, that I noticed what the pictures were of, rather than how she violated them.
"He's a pervert?"
She jumped and whirled around to face me. Mistake on both of our parts. I shouldn't have stood so close and she shouldn't have turned around. I could hear the sharp intake of her breath, then she walked around me and started for the bag.
To take my mind off of what just happened, I took a closer look at the collage, noticing a rather inappropriate picture of Toni and also one of Kaylee. Both were blacked out on the parts that shouldn't have been captured on photo. When she came back, she had a rock in each hand, offering one of them to me. Before I could ask what it was for, she chucked hers at one of the two windows.
"Hurry up! Someone would've heard that!"
So I threw the rock at the other window, no questions asked, I didn't think, I just did. She grabbed the now empty duffel bag in one hand and my hand in the other. We ran out of the dorm room, down the hallway and down the flight of stairs. We didn't stop running until we were back in the car.
My blood was pumping, my heart was racing and I couldn't stop smiling. Rather than think about how much trouble we could get into, I thought about how much fun the next two victims would be if this was the minor of the three.
"What's next?" I asked.
She sent me a smile as she pulled out of the parking space and started for another building. "Having fun now?"
I was, but it was nothing compared to the rush I got at out next stop. Kaylee said her name was Tanya, she shared some classes with Toni. Apparently, she was the one who told Toni to stick her tongue down my ear. I enjoyed spray painting her room in a plethora of colors ranging from neon green to blood red, to black and sunset orange. We went crazy, jumping on and over the bed, painting sloppy messes, circles and screwed up lines. Then we threw glitter everywhere, literally, everywhere. On the bed, on the books, in the closet and over the clothes in the dresser. All of the glitter came in different shades of pink.
"Toni's going to kill me for raiding her glitter supply, but it was worth it." Kaylee said proudly. We stood in the doorway, admiring our work.
"What's next?"
"One final touch."
The final touch was a stink bomb. My nose would have been very happy if it had never come across that rachid smell. It was offel. I could still smell it after the twenty minute drive in her car. We pulled up to a familiar house.
I inhaled a deep breath before slowly turning in my seat to face Kaylee. "What are we doing outside of Penelope's house?"
Penelope, my ex hookup that I made the mistake of doing twice. Penelope, the one that gave Toni hell and was the reason Kaylee had given me a hickey.
"What time is it exactly?"
I looked at my phone. We'd been gone for an hour and a half, it was already five thirty. I told her the time, glancing at the sunrise peaking up over Penelope's roof.
"Perfect."
"She'll be sleeping--"
"I messaged her using your phone."
For a second, I swore time stopped.
It didn't matter what her text was, it couldn't be good.
I was going to kill her.
She sent me a sly smile as she stepped out of the car. "Told her you wanted to meet on the other side of town for a hookup, that you were bored with your girlfriend and wanted her back."
"Kay--"
She shrugged, "We'll make it look like an accident."
