Fun facts about this book.
Liam was meant to be a background character that wouldn't last for more than the beginning of the book. But the more I explored the relationship between him and Kaylee, I began to realize that I needed this in the book. It helped me explain Kaylee's character a little better and at the same time, show my readers that things aren't always black and white. Kaylee and Liam genuinely loved each other, but they were toxic for each other. Their traits couldn't co-exist together peacefully.
Lorraine has a much bigger part to play in the lives of my three main characters.
Although I never came right out and said it, I dropped little hints here and there regarding Sawyer and the fact that he's dealing with depression. There's a void in his life that he's been trying to fill for years. Sometimes it comes out of nowhere for no reason and it eats away at him.
Since the beginning of the book, Toni has come across as a good girl, almost caretaker/mother figure. Although it may not seem like it, her issues are very complex.
Kaylee has the outspoken, confident personality that a lot of people envy. When I created her character, I decided that this person would have no filter. Sometimes she would say or do the wrong thing. She would push people away and have an outer later of steel. Because of all this, I had a feeling that the majority of people wouldn't like Kaylee. Turns out, I was very wrong. In fact, many of my readers could relate to her, and I loved that. I loved that they enjoyed the raw, sometimes twisted and harsh truth of this character.
When I wrote this book, I did it with the idea of possibly writing a trilogy. One to focus on each of my main characters. The first is for Sawyer. For a while, I kept going back and forth on who would have the second book, Kaylee or Toni. Because I couldn't finish everything I planned for book one, due to it being too long, I decided to write the second book focusing on Kaylee. It makes the most sense and I still get to finish all of the ideas I had for book one. Book three will focus on Toni, taking a drastic turn that I don't think anyone will have predicted :)
