"Where are we going?" I asked Piper.
Currently, were in the car driving down the road. The road is surrounded by a bunch of trees, they loom over the street.
"Somewhere." Is all she says. Her hands hold a strong grip over the steering wheel as her eyes focus on the street. I've never seen it before, but analyzing her neck she has a light bruise. It looks like she was cut or something, I wonder what happened.
"That's so vivid Piper, thanks." I say sarcastically. She gives me a look and focuses her attention back on the road.
"I'll give you a hint. It's quiet and secluded. So, if I decided to kill you no one would find your dainty corpse." She chirps.
"The woods." I replied.
"Correct." I roll my eyes at her and procced to look out the window. The only reason I decided to go with Piper so she wouldn't kill Irene. If I didn't go with her Irene would have been laying on the ground in a puddle of blood.
"Katana said she knew you, before everything went down with her father and his brother." I see an unknown glint in her eyes.
"Yeah, we were good friends. Until she betrayed her King and got banished, alongside her father." She turns down a different road, this one leads us down a hill. I hold onto the door handle so I don't fall over. It's steep, the hill, trees still loom over us.
The sky is a white-bluish color. Looks like a swarm of swirls in the sky, so beautiful and yet so calm.
"But she did the right thing. The Queen felt her baby was in harm's way, I would do the same thing for my child. Wouldn't you?" I asked her.
"The baby was with her family, the family that would keep her out of harm's way. What Katana did was wrong and uncalled for. Til this day we don't even know where Shilah is. Is she dead, or alive? We don't know."
I know where she is, I think to myself. Katana said she died a few days later at a pack on Nygaardian land. A bunch of rouges raided the pack, what a rogue is I have no idea. Forgot to ask that question. I don't say anything for the whole car ride to the unknown destination.
Suddenly, the car comes to a halt. Piper takes the key out of the ignition and starts to get out the car. Before she gets out, she looks over to me. Watching me sit still in the passenger seat, not even managing to unbuckle my seatbelt.
"Get out the car before I drag you out." She says in a harsh tone. I can tell from the look on her face, she isn't lying. I unbuckle my seat belt, as the door opens a gust of wind blows in my face. My tendrils move wildly around my head. Some even blow on my face.
We are currently on top of a hill. Looking over, I can see all of St. Helena from here. City lights glow brightly, as cars zoom up and down the street. At the peak of the hill stands an unknown figure, it's a man. He's really tall, when I say tall, I mean unnaturally tall. His dark hair sits stiffly on his head, as his trench coat sways in the wind.
He looks like a man from the matrix, standing on the hill watching all the peasants down below live their mundane life. I wonder which pill I'll take.
I turn around to look at Piper, I see her bowing to the man. Her long, ginger hair almost touches the ground. Behind her comes another man, he's also bowing too. He looks a little like Alexander, not in the face but the body.
"What- what is going on here?" I asked out loud. I didn't know exactly know who to ask the question to. I'm the only person lost in the situation.
"You bow to royalty. Bow!" Piper whisper yells to me. Scared from the tone of her voice, and the idea that she may still drag me, I go along with her. His back is still turned to us, not even trying to acknowledge out existence.
"Thank you for bringing her Piper, you did well. And Roman thank you for coming for my protection. Now, both of you leave I want time alone with Lotisia." Piper, and the now unknown guy, Roman, give him one last bow and disappear in the woods.
"Wait, don't leave me." I say to Piper, but she's already gone. Can't help me now even if I wanted her to.
"Nice to meet you Quinneth. I've heard so much." The man turns around, there's something familiar about his face. I can't put a finger on it. His nose is prominent, wrinkles fill his face as a mole sits on the right side of his face. Besides all the wrinkles, he's rather handsome.
"How do you know my name?" I asked curiously. I've never seen this man in my life, until now.
"Oh, honey I know a lot about you. Your parents died when you were a child. Your grandpa, a pack doctor at the Golden Summit pack, has been taken care of you since they died. He's now dating a woman named Irene, who works at the newspaper you intern at. Kai Khan, my nephew, interns at the news paper with you. Lyra is your best friend, and your favorite subject is economics. Ida is your boss at her antique shop, she has three sons who are triplets." He lets out a breath, finishing up his in-depth report on me.
I guess he does know everything about me, and I mean everything. He knows where I live, work and who my friends are. Also, he knows that Kai is working at the internship with me.
"I- how do you know Kai is working with me? Why haven't you come after him, if I may ask."
The sun shines in his eyes, making his black eyes a little lighter than what they are, "He's my nephew, I would never kill a relative of mine."
"But you would try to kill your niece and brother?" He laughs, a menacing laugh it is.
"That's an exception. They betrayed me, when this happened, Kai wasn't even born yet. He's not my problem, they are." He tucks his hands in his trench coat.
"Do you still want them? You know. . .dead."
"Now? No, but in the future? Yes. I know my older brother is at the Golden Summit pack house. I knew the moment he stepped off the Island. I know that Katana has been following you, way before you and Alexander met." He stalks towards me, like lightening, he's quickly standing right in front of me.
He smells quite nice, a pinch of cologne but most of it is a natural smell. I look up at him, as he stares down at me. Those creepy eyes bare into my soul. Tossing and turning it around as he pleases.
"You never answered my question, who are you." He stays silent for a few minutes, rolling over my question in his mind.
"You know, I was going to lie to you, but you seem trustworthy. The name is Yount Sapphire, King of Insofar. And the soon to be King of Nygaard, if you help me."
Why didn't I put this together before, now I know who he looks like, his daughter, Sasha? His daughter, who my boyfriend killed at Oslow. Before my brain connects to feet, they start to have a mind of their own and revert back. My back ends up against the tree.
"If you're thinking I'm going to kill you, lay the idea to rest. I need you, you're the only one that can help me get what I want."
"You want me to wake up the First Power. I'm not doing it." A deep chuckle erupts from his throat, it sounds familiar to Sasha's.
"The fact that you think you have a choice is cute. You WILL wake them up or. . ." His voice trails off.
"Or what?"
"Or that grandpa of yours will die sooner than you think." He holds his look steady; I can tell he isn't lying.
"No, please don't touch him." He walks around me, looking my body up and down.
"You have my word that I won't kill him or anyone you know. But. . .if you don't do what I want then someone will die."
I look down at my feet, running the idea over in my head. I know that Alexander, my grandpa or anyone else won't like if I do this. But he's threatening to kill the ones I care about; I have to protect them at all cost. I make my decision.
"Your boyfriend did kill my daughter." Now he's guilt tripping.
"Fine, you won. What do you need me to do?"
Opening up the door to the house, I see Irene still sitting on the couch. Is my grandpa not here yet, he may be at the pack house or something? Walking further in I see a figure leaning forward on the couch, it's no other than my grandpa. A look comes on his face, a scary look that made me cower under his menacing glare.
He knows, I think to myself. He doesn't even have to say anything, I can just tell from the anger radiating off of him throughout the room. He knows that I went off with Piper, the Russian assassin that kills for a living. And just an hour ago was just threatening to Kill Irene. I did what I had to do. . .to keep the people I love safe.
Everyone wants me sit to around and be the damsel in distress, and I'm tired of it. No, I don't want to wake up the First Power, but if it keeps us safe, hell, I'll wake up all the dead witches, even bring back Satan if needs be.
"Hey grandpa." My voice comes out wavy. My hand clutches onto the couch cushion. Irene looks at my grandpa then me. She notices something is off from the energy in the room. Her eyebrows furrow, then a smile comes across her face.
"Hey honey. How was your time with Piper? That was her name, right?" She looks up to me, I love how Irene is interested in my life and how she mentions things that I do. But right now, I wish she would have kept her head in her book.
"Yeah Quinn, how was it with Piper?" I gulp rather loudly, it's the only thing I can hear right now. My hand clenches even more aggressively on the couch cushion.
"It was. . .fine. I have homework to do, so I'll leave you guys." Rushing out of the living room I make a run for the stairs. Before I'm able to make it up 3 steps, I hear feet come from behind. Wrinkly hands grab onto my waist, bringing me down to the floor.
"What the hell did you do Quinneth? Why can't you leave things alone?" His hand rests on the stairs arm. That bulging vein that usually pops out when he's angry is now prominent. It's staring straight at me, trying to crawl out of his skin to wrap around my neck and choke me.
"I did nothing wrong. Is it illegal for me to go out places with people?" I say, defending myself.
"Let me ask YOU a question. Is it illegal for me to kill you and hide you under the floor boards?" I give him a sideways glance, is he serious? He must be kidding.
"Grandpa, nothing happened I swear." I assure him. Yes, I'm lying but I can't tell him the truth. Tell him that I'm going to help out Yount so he can get his kingdom. I will most likely regret it, but I'm the only one that can turn things around.
"If nothing happened then why are you acting like you did something wrong. You're not looking at me when you talk." I scoff at his comment, my eyes connect with his.
"Look, Piper came over here threatening to kill Irene. If I didn't go with her Irene would be dead right now." I say whispering to him so Irene won't hear from the living room couch.
"You're not doing the ritual for them. Are you?" He asked. I so wanted to tell him the truth, tell him that I was going in a few days to wake them up. But the words couldn't leave my mouth, the words couldn't even saunter up my throat.
"No, I just talked to them that's all."
"Them? Who's them?" Crap, I meant to say just Piper, he doesn't know that I talked to Yount, the king.
"Just another son of Sylo, his name was Roman Reign. They just wanted to set the record straight. You have nothing to worry about."
"NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! You're going to risk your life, Quinn." Lyra screams at me. After talking to my grandfather last night, I needed to talk openly with someone. Obviously, it can't be grandpa, most definitely not Alexander. He would shut it down immediately, wouldn't even let me get the words out.
"It's not. . .risking my life. He assured me that nothing detrimental will happen to me." I tell her as I plopped down on her bed. Spring break just started a few days ago, so we've just been chilling around.
I've just told Lyra what I'm going to do, and from the way she reacted, she's not on board.
"Quinn, you don't know these people like that. They would tell you anything to wake up these. . .. witch's or whatever they are. Don't forget Alexander did kill his daughter, they could be wanting to betray you."
"Maybe. . .but I have to trust them Ly."
"There has to be some other way. A substitute or something, you can't be the only Zastonite or whatever it's called, you can't be the only one."
"But I am, there aren't any known ones. If there was, they wouldn't be coming to me."
"How are you even related to these girls anyways?" She grabs a hand full of cereal and stuffs it in her mouth. If Lyra could eat cereal all day every day, she would.
"I'm not related to them by blood, but my magic." She looks at me, obviously confused. "Centuries ago, the First Power made humans who were mated to Alpha's have powers. Since I'm a human and mated to Alexander, that makes me a Zastitnik. Their original magic flows through me."
"So, your one in a million." She asked.
"Yeah, I guess I am."
Alexander's P.O.V-
".....No. Don't let Quinn know that you know. It will only drive her to do it. Just. . .spy on her make sure she's ok. I'll handle it." I give him a weird look.
"What do you mean you'll handle it."
"Don't question your father, just keep Quinn safe."
"Yes, sir." Is all I say. I leave him in his office as I walk down the hall. Once I turn the corner I hear my phone ring, looking at the caller ID, it's Quinn's grandpa.
"Hello?" I say as I turn yet another corner.
"Hey Alexander, whenever your not busy we need to talk."
"I'm free now, be over in a few minutes." Hanging up the phone I head towards my car. From the sound of his voice he sounded. . .scared or something it's hard to make out.
Hope every things ok.
