"Watch where you're driving." Some random angry man yelled at me as he swerved around.
"Damn you." I scream right back at him. Right now, no one's feeling matter for me. The only ones I'm worried about are mine, better me holding them back so I don't strangle Quinneth. I can't- I can't fathom how she could do this. Just leave without saying anything, she understands what she's unleashing, what this could do to now only her but the whole Kingdom of Nygaard.
There was a reason why The First power was killed, because they were too powerful for their own accord. Creating the Zastitnik was seen as an abomination to the witch's council. The First's power's magic was original, and way too powerful. For them to give it to humans was wrong. They could abuse the power for their own personal gain, like Rhella did when she made the people who killed her tribe pay. It took two kingdoms to take her down, it wasn't a easy fight.
When I called Lyra, she hung up the phone on me. After that I tried to call her three more times and left her many texts, to which I know she purposely ignored. Quinneth shares everything with her, and I mean everything. And the way she's ignoring me, she knows exactly where she is. Maybe she isn't in Insofar, she could be at the store or something. Hell, who am I kidding it's late at night she wouldn't go out by herself, not without telling someone of course.
Turning on David St., I see a rather big brick house at the end of the block. I remember Quinneth showing me her house, on the corner was the address. I thought it was useless, her showing me it, but now it's come in handy.
Realization comes to me, that is why she kissed me? I'm always the one to kiss her, to deepen the kiss. She gets rather nervous to be. . .bold with her urges. When she kissed me the way she did, and deepened it, it caught me off guard. A look in her eyes was alluring. And something came to me, I could faintly hear her whisper last night about saying she would miss me the most. I assumed I was hearing things, but guess I wasn't crazy after all.
Pulling in the driveway I don't bother shutting my door. I'm here for one reason only, to figure out what Quinneth as done or already had done. Walking up to her front door, I see a lamp light coming from the living room, some noise comes from the inside. It sounds like a radio, or a TV.
My hand collides with the wooden door, it takes a few seconds, a woman answers the door. She looks like the spitting image of Lyra. Unlike Lyra, her hair is dark brown. Eyes the color of clear-ocean water, her skin is tan and she's almost as tall as me. Her eyes rake over my body, confused on why I'm looking ragged with slow breath.
"Hi, how may I help you." She smiles at me.
"Um. . .I'm looking for your daughter, Lyra." From my appearance, I don't look like a 17-year-old senior. I wonder what's throwing her off? Is it my rather tall stature, or the light stubble on my chin?
"Are you a friend from school?" asked Mrs. Berkeley.
Before I'm able to give a response, a lying response, Lyra comes and saves the day. When she sees me, a cold look comes across her face. Is she mad that I'm here?
"Hey mom, what's going on?" she asked her mother.
"This young man said he's here to see you. Do you know him, he looks rather old to be a high school senior?" She says the last part quietly. Me being a werewolf I was able to pick up on it.
"Yeah, were doing a project together. It's rather important, it's due after Spring break. He's a big nerd, and was held back a few times." Mrs. Berkeley gives me an embarrassing look; Lyra didn't even bother to say it quietly.
"Yeah, that's the truth. It's urgent I get her input on the pie charts." That the one thing I always see on Quinneth's projects.
"Well, I don't want you guys to fail. I'll let you two talk." Mrs. Berkeley gives me one last smile and walks back to the living room. I wait until she's out of ear shot to start talking.
"Why are you ignoring my call and texts?"
"Oh, you called? I didn't know." I could tell that she's lying, and I think she knows that I know that she's lying.
"Don't lie to me Lyra. Quinneth may be in danger and I need to know where she is."
"I thought she was with you. I don't know where she is, I'll see you later." She tries to shut the door, but I hold it open with my foot. She kicks at my foot, but I don't even budge. A groan escapes her mouth. "Let's go outside I don't want my parents to be lurking, they have a history of that."
We walk to her backyard; we sit on a bench in a garden. Bushes of roses, sunflowers, and Begonia's fill around us. It is really beautiful, if my situation wasn't dire, I would admire them. On us a light shines from her porch.
"Lyra, I need to know where she is. She didn't tell me anything, just left while I was asleep. I'm under the theory that she went to Insofar with Yount."
"I wouldn't know a thing." Was all she said. Her eyes defer away from me, focusing on the daffodils at her feet.
"She wouldn't go without telling someone where she went, and that person happens to be you." For the first time since we've been out her, her eyes connect with mine. In her eyes I could read everything. She knew where Quinneth was, but couldn't tell me. Something was holding her back, holding her back from telling me the truth.
"She told me not to tell anyone, even you." her voice is barely a whisper, but I can pick up on it.
I do something that makes me feel awkward, and from the look on her face her too. My hands grab hers; my warmth fills her cold ones. "I heard you have a boyfriend, John?"
"Jack." She says correcting me.
"Jack, right. If you knew he was somewhere, or with someone, that could harm him wouldn't you want to know." A sincere look comes across her face, shes having an internal battle inside.
A big sigh leaves her lungs, "Oh god she's going to kill me. She went to Insofar with Piper. In 2 days, she's going to unleash The First Power."
"WHAT!" I find myself accidently stepping on one of Lyra's mother's fresh daffodils, sorry plant.
"Shhh." She pulls me back down to the bench. "If my parents hear they'll come out here. What are you going to do?"
"Uh, I'm going to go get her." She shakes her head frantically, her red hair moves with the wind. "I'm not leaving her there; we can find a resolution."
"She had to do this Alexander, when Yount killed Irene, she was scarred. Quinn was already set in her ways, she had to protect everyone. Protect you. When she met with Yount, he threatened to come after you. Her love for you is strong, I've never seen her feel deeply about anyone before. You have to let her do this."
Could I? Could I sit idle by while she risks her life for me?
"Alex where are we going?" I hear Aren say behind me, a hint of annoyance is in her voice.
"Yeah, where the hell are we? It's late at night and I missed my phone call with Luci. This better be good."
"Oh, it is." We arrive at our destination. I tell them to dunk down behind me, in the bushes.
I look at Christian, his face suddenly lights up once he figures out where we are.
"Is this-"
"Yeah, Insofar." I finish his sentence.
"What the- Insofar? Are you mad Alexander!? Are you trying to get us killed." Aren starts smacking me on my arm, maybe I should have told them where we were going before I dragged them from the house.
"First of all OWWWWW! Second of all, I just need you guys to look out so I can steal Quinneth back."
"Steal a human, does that even sound right." Christian questions.
"She has no idea what's she going to unleash for the grave. I need to reason with her and take her home with me."
"You are so lucky were bestfriends. If we weren't, I would have broken your neck and left you in the woods." Me and Christian give Aren a scary look.
"Don't be so mean, Deshka Aren."
"What did I say about calling me that? Let's just get this over with."
"So, since we're here to get your mate Alexander, what's the plan?" Christian asked me as he searched around us, making sure no one was going to jump out and get us.
"Yeah, what's the plan Alex?" chimed in Aren. Honestly, I didn't have a plan. When Lyra, reluctantly, told me that Quinneth came to Insofar to awake The First Power I immediately knew I had to come and get her. The first people I called were my best friends, Aren and Christian, to come and help me.
I couldn't tell my father; they already risked their lives to save her the first time I don't think he would be too keen to save her again. Also, they are my best friends they would do anything to help me and I them.
"We uh- we could." I start to stutter over my words.
"I can't believe you Alexander. You brought us out here and you have NO plan." Even in the harsh darkness I can see an angry look on her face. The first rule of being the Alpha's child, you never go anywhere without a plan, a clear plan at that.
"I thought irrationally about this. I had to come quickly before they did something to her, or she did something. When we came here, I thought a plan would come to light, but it hasn't." On the side I see Christian's thinking face, out of the three of us he's the one known to have the best ideas. And right now, looking at him, I could tell he had an idea.
"What are you thinking about Christian?" I asked him, fingers crossed.
"Look at those guards up there." We turned our heads in his direction. There were two guards, one a woman the other a man, they stood tall. Guns held in front of their bodies; a stoic look on their face. The Insofar guards are known to be tough, and strong.
A few days ago, when me and my father, and others from the pack, came out here to scare Yount to leave Quinneth alone, we had a hard time fighting them. Since they have Sylo, and were not familiar with his technics, it was a challenge. I've never had a problem fighting someone, besides Sasha, I felt so out of touch.
"What about them?" said Aren.
"We could steal their uniforms, walk the lands freely and get to Quinneth. No one would suspect guards." He had a good idea, like I thought he would have.
"That- that's really good. So, since Alexander dragged us here, he can go out first." I give Aren a dirty look. "Look at me like that all you want, just go." I let out a sigh.
"Fine, when I knock out the woman, you guys go and get the other two. They'll be off guard." They both nod in agreement.
Lifting myself from behind the bushes, I find my legs hurting. We've been in that crouching position for 20 minutes, and I felt the pains instantly. I tune out the pain, not letting it override my plans. Quietly walking around the trees, I take them in.
If I attack one, the other will get me. I have to distract them, lure one of them to me so I can get the uniform. Beside my foot I see a huge rock, this will do. Slinging the rock on the far side of where I was located, the guards head turned immediately.
"What was that?" she asked.
"Probably an animal or something." her partner said. He seemed to not be moved from the noise, unlike she was.
"No, that was something, someone. You stay here I'll go check it out." She leaves her position and starts to walk in the direction of the noise. Her guns are held tightly in her hands, all I can see is myself killing her. I can't wear her uniform so it'll go to Aren.
"Looking for something." I ask her. She turns towards me, her gun coming up, pointing directly in the face. "I wouldn't do that if I was you." My hand grips the gun, turning it towards the ground. A gun goes off twice, bullets entering into the crust of the earth. The noise rings through my ears, causing a loud piercing ring to surge through me. I don't let that stop me though, after a few punches to the face I take her down.
I originally was going to kill her, but pity took over me so I pushed her pressure point and now she's asleep. Taking off her uniform, I feel bad to leave her naked so I put my jacket over her ever so gently. She's going to be so angry when she wakes up, and cold.
Walking back to the bush we were currently at; I see two more guards laying on the ground. Above them stands my best friends. Christian starts to strip one of the guards and puts on his uniform. I throw Aren the uniform I got from the lady guard, while she throws me the other guys uniform.
Once we are all dressed and posed, we start to move. "We have to move quick; I know those bullets were heard." We start running through the castle's land. Aren and Christian follow closely behind me. In some of the glass windows, lights and candles are being shown. Where ever Quinneth is, she'll be on the east wing. I remember Vet telling me that is where they keep the most important people, which she is.
Aren and Christian and I decided to split up. We aren't that far from each other, I'm on the east wing, Christian is on the west and Aren's the lookout for both of us. I've seen a few people walk by, some I noticed are the sons and daughters of Sylo. They all wear a distinctive tattoo that identifies them, I hope I don't take one on.
Besides that, no sign of Quinneth. Behind me I hear feet walking towards me, pointing the gun at the unknown I hear laughter.
"It's me Alexander, put the gun down." Looking over the barrel of the gun I see that it's Christian. The gun returns back at my side.
"Did you find anything?" He shakes his head. I lean up against the wall, my eyes revert up to the sky.
"Don't worry Alexander, we'll find her." I hope he's right. Off to the side I see a person running to us, it's Aren.
"Hey what are you losers doing lounging around?"
"Wallowing in our self-pity." I tell her.
"Well. . .stop. I found something." I don't waste any time, and neither does she. She starts running in the direction she just came from, me and Christian hot on her trail. After running for what felt like forever, we come to a rather large window.
Inside we see a huge ball room, off to the side I see a throne. The Kings throne, this is where everything happens. In the middle of the ginormous room, I see Yount standing with a woman at his side, I can't make out who she is.
Looking off to the side, I see the grand doors opening up, someone is coming in.
"Is that-"
"Yes, it's-"
"Quinneth." I finish up their sentences. She looks the same as she did when I last saw her. Same light blue sweater, with some of her stomach showing. High-waisted boyfriend jeans and white tennis shoes. Behind her walks Piper Pryde and Katherine Constantine. The two most notorious women fighters in Insofar.
Yount steps up to her, my hands clench on the window's ledge. He starts to talk to her; I can't really hear what their saying but from the look on her face it's really serious.
"Can you make out what their saying?" I asked Aren. She was really good at reading lips.
She studies their behavior, trying to pick up on what their saying, "I think she's asking him when will everything start or something like that, he's telling her once the waxing crescent reaches its final percent. And. . .that's all I can pick up he's talking way too fast."
"Thanks, what does the moon have to do with everything?" I ask myself.
Before I'm able to answer that question, three guards come up behind us.
"Shouldn't you guys be patrolling the south borders?" One of the guards asked us, we all look towards each other wondering which one of us is going to talk first. "Also, we found three unconscious people. One a women the other two men, know anything about that?"
"Uhhh. . .we don't."
"What are your codes?" He asked, the other guards lurk behind him.
"1-2-3-4." said Aren. Christian looks at her like she's a dummy.
"We don't have codes, seize them!"
"Damn." Is all I said before telling Aren and Christian to run. The guards seized me, but the others got away.
"We aren't leaving you Alex!" screamed Chrisitan.
"Yeah, were a team!" I thrash in the guards' arms, they hold me tightly to them, their fingers digging in my arms.
"Get away! Tell my father where I am, he'll send backup." They stall, fighting with the internal side of themselves. Should they stay and help, or run and get backup?
"We'll- we'll go. Come on, Aren." Christian yanks on Aren's arm, but she doesn't budge.
"No, we can't go. He saved me from Sasha, I have to stay!"
"Take her away!" I scream to him. Once he realizes Aren isn't going willingly, he throws her over his shoulder and runs off into the woods. Her hands beat on his back, screams belching out of her throat.
The guards then drag me across the lawn to the entrance of the castle. I tried to fight them, but with no avail. Dragging me down the hall, I see some of the people walking past staring at me weirdly. Most notice who I am, the others don't. As we passed some hall, I see Quinneth leaving out the doors of the big room.
"QUINNETH, QUINNETH!" I scream her name. The guards jack my arm, a piercing pain shoots through it, I thought I heard a crack. Our eyes connect, she starts to run towards me until Piper pulls her back. She pushes her against the wall, her arms come around my neck. Clutching me like I was going to disappear. "Oh, lotus." I whisper into her hair.
"Alexander, what are you doing here?" A look of surprise comes across her, I try to hug her but my arms are currently being held back. The smell of her hair seeps into my noise, lavender and honey, oh how I missed that.
"I came to save you." Was all I said. Her eyes look sincere, but also a little angry.
"NO! I don't need you to save me, I was saving you. You've got to let me does this." I find her arms leaving around my neck, Piper pulls her back from me. The guards drag me away from her, I use all my might to break away, I leave them in the dust and wrapped my arms around her.
My lips connect with hers, all the love for her pours into her. It may be the last time I can kiss her. Her hands clutch onto me, trying not to let go.
I'm pulled back once again, dragged down to the depths of hell. In the distance, I can hear her scream something.
"I LOVE YOU!"
"I love you too." I whisper.
