Quinneth's P.O.V.-
"Almost done." I said to myself. I'm almost done with my paper for the FLOA club. There were many people I wanted to pick to write this paper about. After careful consideration I decided to pick Stacey Abrams. She has done a lot for the world with the me-too movement and all. This is going to be the best paper yet.
Suddenly, as I'm on the last paragraph of my essay I hear the doorbell ring. Wonder who that could be? We hardly ever have people over here unless it's Lyra or my grandpa's friends.
"Who must that be at the door huh?" I said whispering to the wolf. I pet him on the head and tugged, gently, at his ears. I head out my bedroom and jog down the stairs. Once I open the door, I'm shocked my who I see, It's Myers. First of all, how did he get my address, and what is he doing here? Not that I'm objecting or anything just it's kind of weird.
"Um hey Myers what are you doing here?" I asked him with a shocked expression on my face.
"Lyra said you forgot your jacket at school so I decided to bring it over." He said pulling my jacket from his back.
"Wow thank you. You didn't have to come all this way." I said taking the jacket from his hands and holding it close to me.
"No, it was nothing really. I was actually going to be in this area." He said looking around the neighborhood.
"That's interesting because only thing around here are houses and a mini mart." I told him with a smirk on my face.
"I just really like the infrastructure of these houses. I mean when was this house built like 1926 or something." He presses his hands on the house and start analyzing it.
I put my hand over my mouth trying to hold in my laughter. "More like the late 50's, nice try though." I told him.
"Well got to give me props for trying."
"Yeah, thanks for bringing me my jacket and trying to guess when this house was made. Hey since you came all this way want to come in?" I gesture my hand for him to come on in.
"Sure thanks." He passes me and enters in the house. "What a lovely home you have."
"Thank you."
"Hey Quinn who was that at the door?" I hear my grandpa ask from the living room. What the hell is he doing here I thought he was with this friend.
"It was my friend, Myers. Myer meet my Grandfather Milo Worthingshire." Myers holds out this hand for my grandpa to shake. He looks at me then Myers hesitantly shaking his hand.
"Hello Myers nice to meet you, you are a boy." My grandpa said to him with a surprising tone.
"Yes, grandpa he is a boy good observation." I say to him giving him the eye.
"Nice to meet you Myers." He says to him with a smile on his face. He then turns to me and pulls me over to the side. "One moment Myers."
"Who is this boy?"
"He's a friend from school, be chill. He means no harm." He looks at me then Myers and back to me.
"He can't go up to your room I don't want any great-grandchildren. He can hang with you in the backyard." I nod my head.
"Fine, now go." I said ushering him along.
"You too have a good time, don't trying anything boy god is always watching." My grandpa said pointing his finger at Myers.
I roll my eyes to him and focus my attention on the nervous boy.
"We can go out to the porch outside." I pointed to the backyard.
"Cool. First can I use the bathroom?"
"Sure, upstairs door at the end of the hall." I told him.
"Thanks." He walks away from me and heads upstairs.
Myer's P.O.V.-
I head up the stairs to the "bathroom." In actuality I just want to see if that wolf is up here. I go through every room until I see that there is one more room I haven't checked. I open up the door to see a flower bed set and lots of pictures on the wall, this must be her room. I shut the door very quietly so they don't suspect I'm not in the bathroom. Cute room for a cute girl, I look around her room trying to find any indication of her being involved with him, her mate. From the looks of it there is nothing. In my peripheral I find a notebook on her bed, looking at it I see it title, "FLOA essay." Boring.
I turn around to see her chest drawer open. Peaking inside I see a bright pink underwear and a purple bra. Looking deep into the drawer I find a thong, somebodies freaky. Maybe she's not a prude after all.
I walk towards her window to see something furry under her bed. Leaning down I see the wolf that was in her car. I snatch it up by the neck and bring it close to my face.
"Listen I know it's you Katana Khan. Me, the princess and the King know that you and your father are still alive. We have no Idea how, but we will see to it that it's permanent." She winces under my hand, trying to free herself. "You can't protect her you know; she is bound to the power. We will kill everyone until she is ours." I throw her back on the ground and walk to the door, before I leave, I turn back around. "You better get out of town or else." I walk back downstairs to see Quinn waiting for me outside on her porch with cookies on a plate. Time to play my part.
Quinneth's P.O.V.-
"Hey took you an awful long time." I tell him.
"Sorry. I drunk a lot of water today and haven't had time to make it to the bathroom." He says with an embarrassing look on his face.
"Oh well that happens. Come sit down I made cookies." I pat the seat next to me.
"They look delicious." He sits down next to me then grabs a cookie. I wait until he bites it to get his reaction. "These are really good Quinn I have to take some home." He takes another and devourers it quickly.
"Thank you I tried really hard on them, wanted them to come out perfectly."
"Well, they did, good job. So, how was your day today?" He finishes up his second cookie and gives me his undivided attention.
"It was alright, I guess. No work today so I just came on home and worked on my FLOA essay." I picked up a cookie and started to eat it.
"FLOA? What does that stand for Fattest Lobster Over America or something." I laughed so hard at his comment I spit out some of my cookie.
"No, it doesn't mean that." I wiped my mouth of cookie crumbs and continued on, "It stands for Future Leaders of America. It's a program for kids they think show potential of leadership and have good grades."
"So, you're a future leader and are a smarty pants." He says joking with me.
"According to them, yes."
"So, you want to be like the president or something?" He speaks. I give him a smirk and roll my eyes at him.
"Not exactly I just want to like own a company or be a boss's boss." I tell him.
"Why have all that pressure?" He said looking at me curiously.
"I like pressure, it makes me work harder and be better." I look down at my lap.
"Pressure can be good sometimes." He moves the cookies to the side and scooches closer to me. "Pressure pushes us." He ends up so close to me I can feel his breath on my lips. "Pressure makes us confess to things we never thought would come out." He brings his finger up to my face and wipes the cookie crumbs off the corner of my lip. I shiver at his touch. He leans in closer to me his lips almost touch mine until...
*Knock Knock*
"Hey Myers shouldn't you be getting home." I move away from Myers when I see my grandfather in the window. God this is so embarrassing, he ruined the moment now he is never going to want to come over here again.
"Yeah, I should. Bye Quinn see you tomorrow." He gets up from the porch and heads to the front door. I sit there on the porch with a bummed out look on my face. I give my grandpa the evil eye, letting him know I'm angry.
"So close." I say whispering to myself.
The Next Day...
My eyes awake to a room of just me. I raise up and look around for the wolf don't tell me he's back downstairs again. Slipping on my slippers I softly run fast downstairs to see him nowhere to be found. Looking under the couch, laundry room and the backyard he's gone, completely gone. I sigh and walk back inside to walk back upstairs and get ready for school. As I'm brushing my teeth and washing my face, I think of him. Where did he go and, is he safe? He could have at least woken me up to tell me he's leaving; I chuckle at that thought and wash the toothpaste off my freshly clean skin. Well, he's a wolf not a dog he had to eventually go back and be with this pack. If he has one.
Jogging down the stairs I see grandfather sitting his bags by the door. I lean my head to the side in confusion, where is he going.
"Hey grandfather good morning and where are you going." I ask with curiousness in my voice. He hardly goes out of town usually it's just to go see his war buddies.
"Oh, honey I was going to tell you yesterday, but you were asleep and I didn't want to wake you." He said while sitting his last bag by the others. Now I know that's a lie one time he woke me up at 2:00 in the morning because he couldn't turn off the alarm on his phone. He's hiding something.
"Grandpa now I hate to call you a liar, but what are you lying to me about?" I across my arms over my chest and lean against the banister of the stairs glaring my eyes at him.
"Me and a few buddies are going into the city to play some poker and party." He says looking down at his feet. I huff in disappointment at him. I hate when he goes into town because he's older, he could get hurt and I won't know.
"Grandpa you know I hate when you go into town there are dangerous people out there." I tell him as I frown in disappointment. He walks over to me and rests his hands on my face.
"Quinneth I'll be fine every time I go, I come back in one piece." He kisses me on the forehead and pick up his bags.
"Fine just... Call me when you get there OK." I tell him he nods at me and gets in his car and heads off down the road. I truly hope he's on his trip. I grab my bag from upstairs and drive down the road to school having Myers on my mind. I think of yesterday him and me on the porch. The almost kiss until my grandpa cock blocked us. I blush just thinking about it. Last night before I went to sleep Myers texted me telling me where he is going to take me. Some fancy restaurant on the peer called Tina's.
I've heard of it but have never went I'm really excited about it. I have to go to work today so after that I'm going to go over Lyra's house so she can "glam me up" as she says. I hope she doesn't do too much I don't want to look too plastic or be uncomfortable. Pulling into the drive way I see Lyra with Jack at his car talking to each other. I park my car and head over to them; Jack sees me before Lyra does and waves at me with a friendly smile, I return it back to him. Jack is really a nice and good guy. I have no Idea how he puts up with Lyra she is the opposite of him.
"Hey you guys what are you guys talking about?" I ask while shifting my bag to the other shoulder, I really should get one of those bags with the wheels be much better than his bag pressing on my shoulders.
"Oh, just talking about you and your date with Myers tonight." Lyra says with a sensual voice. "By the way where is he taking you?"
"Of course, you're talking about me I'm the most interesting person in your life besides Jack over here. And he's taking me to Tina's on the shore."
She pushes my shoulder and tells me to shut up me and Jack laughs at her. Jack and I don't have a lot in common me being a loner and him being a popular football player, but one thing is laughing at Lyra.
"Tina's ewe because it's outside and the heat will make your hair frizzle. Also, your makeup will be all sweaty." She rubs her temples in distress.
"It's fine."
Lyra looks at me like I have a bug or a lipstick mark on my face. I lift my hand up to my face to feel around but I felt nothing. She grabs Jack by the arm gently and whispers in his ear and he eyes open wide and he walks away in a scurry, wonder what she told him. She turns to me like she's trying to keep calm and wraps her arms around my shoulder and we began entering into the building. Hundreds of kids surround us as we all walk in the same direction.
"Look Harlequin this is your first date you only have one first date, she raises her finger up in the air to indicate to me the number one she resumes on to say, "do you want to be the dumb girl on her first date wearing last year's Easter dress?"
"Well not exactly, but it's the only fancy thing I have." I tell her in a hushed voice.
"Honey no my clothes are your clothes you know this." She tells me while nudging my side. I inch away from her holding my side in pain.
"No offense... But your clothes are kind of slutty." I tell her while moving even farther away so she doesn't poke me again. She laughs at my comment and pulls me by neck back to her.
"I take no offence my Padawan, but those 'slutty dress' as you call them landed me the star football player." She speaks. Well, she isn't lying maybe I should take her advice I mean nothing yet has been working for me.
"Fine I'll listen to you find me the sluttiest dress in your closet." I tell her in a chipper voice. She squeals and squeezes me tight in happiness. Oh, what have I got myself into? We walk into economics class and open up our textbooks to Chapter 4. The bell rings and Mr. Banhammer began telling us about today.
"Guys don't forget tomorrow we will be taking a bus down to Germani Enterprises to get an inside look on cooperate life. Make sure you finish up your questions and the rest of the time is yours." He finishes his statement and sits down at his desk and grades work. The whole class starts talking to each other and I in turn look over to Lyra to find her actually doing the work.
"Wow Lyra you're actually doing your assignment this is a Kodak moment." I put my fingers up in a shape of a camera and take a fake photo. She gives me a sly smile.
"All have you know me and Jack are having some alone time this week and I don't want to have some stupid work in the way of that." She squiggles her eyebrows at me in a sensual way, she didn't have to do all that I got the message. I scrunch up my nose at her and she laughs at my response. The rest of the period went by rather quickly couple hours later me and Lyra found ourselves in P.E. outside running the track.
"Oh my god I can't take his no more I feel like I'm going to die." She says dramatically. I think I found the perfect career for Lyra, an actor. In her response she wasn't quite lying the sun is not our friends today it feels like I'm toasting in an oven. The gym coach is making us jog around the track four times for our physical, it's exhausting really. Most of the kids are sprinting it through so they can go relax, but of course Lyra has to take her sweet time and me being the greatest friend in the world is running at the same pace as her so she can be with somebody.
Ironic huh Lyra loves the attention on her, but when it comes to P.E she never wants to be last place so we are last place together. I honestly could have been done minutes ago it's not that hard and long. 30 minutes later we finally finished and I decided to walk over to the fountain to get some nice cold water. I know they say that the water fountain water isn't necessary healthy, but in this case, I'd drink rain water I'm so thirsty.
I lean over the fountain to let the cool water dance its way into my mouth. Oh my god this is best day ever water really does taste different when you are thirsty. I hear voices behind me rather familiar voices I turn around to see Myers and Jack laughing at me.
"Ha ha what's so funny?" I ask crossing my arms.
"You're so weak!" Jack yells out following up with a laugh as Myers joins in.
"The only weak person around here is your girlfriend." I rebuttal back to him as he stops his laughing. Myers ohhs at him. Guess I got the last laugh. I turn around and walk back down to the track to see Lyra sprawled on the ground mumbling to herself. I kneel down to her and look at her. Beads of sweat drip down her face as her eyes are kind of open. She is so dramatic.
"Lyra get the hell up!" I semi scream at her as she flairs one of her arms at me letting me know she's getting up anytime soon. I know what will get her up.
"Lyra, Jack is coming this way." I tell her. She springe's up and starts to get herself situated she never wants to look bad in front of Jack. To my sheer luck Jack was actually coming over with Myers to us.
"Lyra babe you look magnificent." He ogles his eyes at her as she blushes bright red. I poke her cheeks and she swats my hand away I then silently chuckle to myself.
"Really you think so I mean I just ran a mile few minutes ago and I don't feel bad, unlike Quinn over hear talk about a drag." She says to Myers and Jack as they look at the ground in awkwardness. My jaw drops to the ground in shock I know she didn't just say that. No more than 5 minutes ago she was face first on the track ground. I keep my mouth shut; I'll get her back just wait.
We talk about a bunch of nonsense stuff then Jack brings up Myer's an I's date tonight I should have saw this coming.
"I have honestly been waiting for Myers to ask you out Quinn we would all make one hell of a double date, right babe?" He says to us then directs the last part to Lyra. She nods in response to him; gosh this is awkward. I look up at the sky and try not to look so... Soo scared.
"Me and Quinn will never double date with you guys you're too crazy isn't that right Quinn?" Myers says.
"Got that right!" I respond to Myers.
Before Lyra and Jack could rebuttal back our coach was calling us into the building.
Before we went back into the building, I pulled Myers over to the side. Lyra and Jack wouldn't miss us they were too busy in their own world.
"Look I'm sorry about my grandpa he can be overprotective sometimes." I tell him hoping he wouldn't be done with me.
"Its alright grandfathers have to be protective over their granddaughters."
"Oh, thank god I thought you would be like scared to see me again or something."
"No nothing can take me away from you."
"See you guys later, bye." Me and Lyra say to the boys as we head into the building.
Heading into the locker room we take a quick shower and throw on our clean clothes. I throw my backpack on my shoulder and lean against the lockers waiting for Lyra to put on her strappy wedges, she's so complicated sometimes.
"Lyra look around you everyone is gone." I pan my hands around to indicate to her that we are alone.
"Harlequin let me give you a piece of advice here, everyone knows that the shorter time you take to get ready the uglier you look." She says in a sure tone. I swear sometimes.
"You are really something Lyraina Ramone Berkeley." I tell her as I walk out the locker room. Before the door shut, I hear her scream at me never to say her full name again. She hates her first name. To her it sounds like Hydrangea which is a flower. Got her boys.
The bell rings letting us know schools out. Hundreds of kids rush past me to race out the building, gosh is this place really that bad? I shake my head and proceed to walking to my car. Before I began to pull out, I get a call from Grandfather, he usually doesn't call me when I get out of school, I hope everything is alright.
[on the phone conversation]
Q: Hey grandfather is you OK?
G: Yeah, I'm fine just wanted to check and see that everything is going Ok with you.
Q: Oh, everything is fine I just got out of school.
G: Wonderful Wonderful I won't be home until tomorrow so make sure you lock the doors when you go home and call me if anything is wrong.
Q: You know I will and call me if anything goes wrong where you are.
G: I've got you on speed dial honey hey I got to go the boys are trying to take my chips.
Q: Alright have fun bye.
G: bye.
I hang up the phone and pull out the drive way. I haven't been to work in days I wonder how business is going. To be honest we have lots of customers come in during the week just not on the same day. Ida is the best boss I've ever had she's funny and understanding too. Bosses that I had in the past wanted me to work all these weird hours for low pay just insane. It's kind of nice because besides me working there it's a woman named Claire, but she works in the morning and me who works in the afternoons. If business Is really slow Ida would just run the store herself. Speaking of Ida, I pull into the parking space to see Ida wiping down the glass windows. I told her that I would do it myself I don't like her doing that last time she did it her hip almost broke from falling on the concreate slab.
