I sat against the headboard of my room as I swiped through the notifications on my phone.
It was quiet in the house, although I did suppose it was around two in the morning.
After a moment, my lashes lowered. “Shouldn’t you be in bed?”
There was silence for a moment, but Suki came out from the wall beside my door, looking slightly shy.
“Seriously, are we going to have issues like this every night?” I said, continuing to swipe through my notifications.
“I can’t sleep…” she said quietly.
I set my phone down and gave her an annoyed look. “Why?”
She just looked down at the bed. “I don’t want to be alone.”
My lashes lowered when I heard her silent words:
I’m scared.
Well, I did suppose there were many alarming events tonight.
I sighed and gazed up, immediately drawing back the sheets of my bed. “Alright, come here.”
Her eyes lit up immediately, and she failed to hide it.
As she stepped over to the bed, I set my phone on the nightstand, gazing over at her seconds later.
She crawled in, trying to get comfortable as she caught the sheets.
“I got it,” I said, pulling her hands away, “just get comfy.”
She gazed up at me before she set her head on my chest, pulling her arms to her own as she drew her legs up.
I then tugged the covers over her as she snuggled her face in my neck, and she relaxed into me, seeming genuinely calm compared to before.
“Do secretaries do this…?” she said quietly.
“All the time,” I responded.
She sounded hopeful. “Really…?”
“No.” I chuckled.
She slumped against me.
“Some personal assistants scrub their boss’s feet, so I don’t see how this is a problem,” I said then.
She smiled at my words; eyes glossed over with exhaustion. “Okay.”
There was silence for a moment, and she just sniffled. “Can you hold me?”
I smiled down at her. “You’re very demanding, aren’t you?”
“Just do it,” she said then, adding a quiet, “please.”
“Alright, mistress,” I said then, sighing as I wrapped my arms around her.
“Rub my back…?” she said weakly.
I gazed down at her. “Seriously?”
“Please.”
I just rolled my eyes and started gently caressing her spine. “Better?”
She nodded, shuffling further into me.
The moment her body melted, a burst of warmth consumed me.
My lashes lowered, and I watched her gently. “You’re going to be okay, my mistress. I’ll protect you.”
“I know…” she said quietly, clearly getting exhausted.
“Are you willing to fall asleep next to your loyal vampire?” I joked then.
She nodded with no reluctance.
Another wave of warmth consumed me.
“Go to sleep now,” I said gently.
“Okay.”
