The day went by kind of fast.
I woke up at six, did my morning routine and made some coffee, and I rushed off to work.
When I entered my building, I yelped when I tripped over a wadded-up rug, and I stumbled before rushing forward.
Right as I gazed up to rush to the elevator, my eyes widened when I saw the doors closing.
“Wait!” I said, practically sprinting now. “Wait!”
But someone caught the door, making me gasp when the doors parted again, and I thanked god in desperate mutters, stumbling into the elevator.
The doors closed behind me then, and I glanced up to the man who helped me.
My cheeks immediately heated when I saw Will’s familiar form standing in the front corner, eyes focused on the wall behind me.
He always looked like that... cold... serious.
Should I have asked him...? About last night... did he really mean it?
Were we really dating?
The bell rang when I opened my mouth, but before I could respond, people came flooding against me, making me yelp when I fell out of the elevator.
But I caught myself, muttering incoherent curses before I gazed back up, finding Will adjusting his tie as he stood a couple feet away from me.
“Will,” I said then, “Will!”
He gazed up at me, brows arched.
“Uh...” I said, stuttering a little as he stared at me, “uh... good morning.”
“Morning.” He nodded.
I shot up then, gaining enough courage to ask him. “Will, about last night—”
“Oh, Will!” someone said, making my brows draw together when he glanced behind him. “Can you check this paper for me? I need it done before noon, and you know how long it takes to run it by the boss.”
Will just sighed and stepped over to him, leaving me stranded as I kept my bag pressed to my chest.
The next moment I found myself sitting at my desk, typing frantically on my computer and hoping to get this next proposal done.
Will was still gone, helping that guy and others.
He was the manager under the boss of this department, so he did have a say in a lot of things.
Especially ones that caused yelling.
But—despite the option to have his own office—he chose to sit in the cubicle with me. Which was odd, honestly, but he made it clear to the boss that he wasn’t in the mood for more of his stupid trash.
“Are you serious?!” someone yelled, making me wince when I peeked my head out, finding Will pointing at a man accusingly. “We told you to send it to her today, and you’re playing Sudoku? Do you want to keep this job? Then act like it.”
He stormed off then, and I shrank back in my seat, continuing my work.
Yeah... Will and that guy always got into arguments. Mainly because that guy slacked a lot when it came to work.
I kept typing, sipping my coffee as words flashed across my screen.
My job mainly was to answer emails, but since I was getting a degree in English at my local college, my boss also had me write papers and proposals for some of our authors.
I picked up my coffee to sip it again, but I drew back when I found my cup empty.
I blinked and stared down at the ceramic.
Well... coffee break.
So, I stood and yawned, stepping over to the break room while holding my favorite mug that said, “you rock,” with a guitar and sparkles.
I actually think Will gave it to me. He said he didn’t want it.
The moment I opened the doors to the break room, I stepped in...
And I stopped, lips parting when the door closed behind me.
Will was standing near the coffee maker, stirring sugar in his coffee as he scrolled through his phone.
He was clearly reading a file; I noticed this due to the way his eyes were darting across the screen.
I just stepped further in the room, finding him glancing at me before going back down to his phone.
I set my mug down on the table, glancing around to find no one in here other than us.
“Uhm...” I said then, “Will.”
He glanced at me again.
“About last night... why did you... you know.”
He set his mug down. “Because you’re kind and always on task. Despite you still being in college, you give everything your best and pump out two papers of perfection in only a couple of hours. And,” he set his hand on my head and lightly pet me, making me gaze up curiously, “you’re very cute.”
He pulled away, making me blink before I shot out.
“But wait! Does this mean we’re still... dating?”
He just raised his brows. “Yeah, I mean. If you still agree.”
I stared at him then, cheeks shaded over with a light pink. “Yeah.”
A small curl of his lips appeared, and I felt something inside me light.
He never... smiles.
