I woke up late the next morning, finding myself in a mysterious bed, so I shot up in a panic and rushed out from the bedroom door.
Now I found myself slowly stepping through this mysterious apartment and glancing around nervously.
I was alone when I woke up, and... I didn’t really remember how I got here.
Who’s place was this? Was I kidnapped?
But—right as I made it to the kitchen—a man came stepping out from the fridge, making me freeze when Will looked up from his phone.
“Oh, hey,” he said, “morning.”
Five minutes later, I found myself sitting at his coffee table while he set a pair of frozen waffles—that were now cooked—on the table, and I gazed up at him, eyes sparkling.
“Oh, thank you. You didn’t have to do this.”
He just sat down next to me. “Sorry I don’t have something more substantial. I haven’t gone grocery shopping yet.”
I just waved off his concern and stared down at the plate, then back at him. “Oh, uhm... if you don’t mind me asking... how did I get into your apartment?”
He just smiled, making heat rise to my cheeks.
He hadn’t smiled before and he had been more often... it was odd.
“We went to that work party last night,” he told me, making my lips part, “and they forced you to drink a little too much so you got a little tipsy.”
“Oh,” I said, gazing down at the plate. “Sorry, about that.”
He just shook his head. “It’s fine. We don’t have work today, so....” He trailed off. “Anyway,” he said, making me glance up, “someone took your house keys, so I was going to meet up with them later today to retrieve them.”
“Oh,” I said, “okay.”
He just smiled and got to a more comfortable position, and nodded to the waffles.
I blinked and caught the fork and knife, starting to cut them.
He just smiled, watching me as I popped a little in my mouth and chewed.
“So, you talked about wanting sex last night,” he said then.
I choked then, coughing up a little waffle and swallowing it down.
I stared helplessly at the table, breathing shallowly. “Uhm... I did?”
“You did.”
“And... did we...?” I asked him then.
He smiled a little. “No.”
I breathed out a sigh. “Okay.”
We were both silent for a moment, and I tapped my fork against the plate as my cheeks darkened to red. “Uhm... ah....”
He set his chin in his hand, smiling at me. “Yes?”
I just stared down at the table, trying to find words. “Uhm... I... uh....”
He just set his hand on my head, making me gaze up hazily.
He lightly pet me, keeping his expression neutral as I watched him curiously.
But I suddenly gazed down, unable to keep eye-contact with him.
His eyes were so soft... too soft.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this fluttery feeling he was giving me.
But I felt him lean closer, and he tipped my chin up.
I shot up. “How about a date?”
He blinked then, as if disoriented.
I stared at him for a moment.
Why was he so close? And why was face tipped slightly over while he held my chin up?
Oh... oh.
Heat rose to my face.
Was he about to kiss me?
I breathed shakily. “Uhm... uhm....”
He just remained in place. “You good?”
“Do you have chocolate milk?” I asked him then, making him draw back a little. “I like chocolate milk, it’s my favorite drink. Say, don’t you like chocolate milk?”
He just drew back. “Uh, it’s in the fridge.”
“Do you want some?” I asked quickly, making him blink. “Because, you know, I like chocolate milk and you do, too, so I just wanted to ask.”
He just shrugged. “Uh, sure. I could go for some chocolate milk.”
“Great!” I said then, shooting up. “I’ll be right back and....”
I stared down at him, finding his eyes closed as he laughed a little.
Oh my god... he was actually smiling at me!
Not like those small chuckles or laughs, but a full on smile!
I couldn’t help but step back, and I rushed over to the fridge to get our milk, and then came back to set it on his table. “Here, I hope you like it.”
He chuckled a little. “It’s chocolate milk, so I’m pretty sure I’ll like it.”
I nodded then, avoiding eye-contact, and he just took his drink and set the cup down.
“You’re red,” he said then, making me breathe shakily. “You okay?”
I shot up again, making him jump this time. “Oh, my! We went on a date last night, didn’t we? Yes, I remember! Movie, right? Movie?”
He just drew back forward, and nodded. “Yes, movie.”
I shrank back in my seat, nodding then. “Yes, it was a good movie.” I shot up again, making him jump, once more. “Oh, my! We should watch it again! Right? Right?”
Will just smiled at me. “It’s okay, Suki. You don’t have to be so nervous around me.”
I shrank back in my seat, slumping my shoulders. “I don’t know how to date. Sorry. I just... I’m nervous, you know?”
He set his hand on my head again and ruffled my hair, making me glance up with a cheek puffed. “It’s alright.” He then moved his hand down to my cheek. “I can show you, if you want.”
I breathed shakily. “Oh, I forgot to do my laundry!”
He blinked.
I shot up. “OH, MY LAUNDRY! I FORGOT!”
He watched me as I ran around, trying to find my jacket.
“Suki,” he said then, “Suki.”
I just found it. “Oh, here’s my jacket! You know! Maybe I should go, you know? LAUNDRY, AM I RIGHT?”
He chuckled and stood. “You don’t have to yell ‘laundry’ at me, Suki.” He gazed up then. “And... your keys are gone, right?”
I dropped my jacket then. “Oh, right.”
He kept himself at a distance this time. “Are you alright? Do you... want to leave? Am I pushing you too hard? Or...” his eyes darkened, “do you... want to take a break? Is it too much for you?”
I dropped to the floor then, making him yelp, but I just remained in place.
“Suki,” he said, rushing over, “are you okay?”
He kneeled down beside me, but I just pulled my knees to my chest, avoiding eye-contact.
He stared at me before settling down, watching me kindly. “Talk to me.”
“It’s not that I don’t want this...” I said after a moment. “It’s just... I’m... I’ve never done this, and... and it’s just....”
“You’re nervous?” he said then.
I nodded shyly.
“It’s okay to be nervous,” he said then, making me gaze up briefly, “to be honest... I am, too. You know... I’m horrified that I’ll make a wrong move.”
I set my cheek on my knees and smiled a little. “It’s impossible for you to make a move.” I giggled a little. “You’re too kind.”
When I gazed up, he was staring at me.
“What?” I said then.
He just sighed and shook his head. “It’s things you say like that... which confuse me.”
I blinked. “What do you mean?”
“You know me so well,” he said then, making my lips part. “And... everyone doesn’t. You’re the only one who cares enough to... know me.”
I just sat up a little, finding his eyes soft. “But you are sweet.”
“Everyone else doesn’t believe so,” he replied, chuckling a little as he ruffled my hair. “They think I’m just a jerk.”
My eyes glittered with tears. “You’re not a jerk, Will! Don’t say that!”
He just smiled a little, continuing to ruffle my hair. “It’s fine, Suki. They can think that. At least... you like me.”
I just shot out and hugged him, and he blinked, but I just squeezed myself to him.
“You put sugar in your coffee,” I said as he set his hand on my back. “You like sweet things like chocolate milk and cake. You really appreciate every time I give you chocolates for your birthday... or...” my voice grew quiet, “for valentines day.” I regained my composure. “Uhm... what I’m saying is that you like sweet things, and that’s why you’re sweet!” I puffed my cheeks again.
He just pulled me away, making me gaze up curiously.
His eyes were dark, though, and I nearly asked him if he was alright...
But he just came down and clasped our lips together.
I gave in, feeling warmth seep through my bones as his hands set on my hips.
He just kept his lips to mine, devouring every inch of fear and hesitance, and I realized...
He even tasted sweet... He even tasted like chocolate and mint and... sugar.
I just couldn’t help myself... I wanted to taste him more.
And he let me.
