I looked at the women, “Why are you here?” She looked confused. I didn’t know this woman and she didn’t know me but she spoke. “Your father sent me.” I rolled my eyes. “Why would he? Hasn’t he been dead for several years?” I ask a rhetorical question
“he wants to see you again and see how you’re doing as the new reaper.” She smiled at me “Tell him I politely decline. I wouldn’t want to see him even if you held me at gunpoint.” I patted her head and she laughed thinking I meant that in a joking manner “That can be arranged.”
I walked off. Yes I am a reaper. What does this mean you ask? Well I’m the bastard who ended your grandmother's life last week. I’m walking down the street wondering why he would want to see me. Thinking of him made me think of the lullaby my mom used to sing to me and my brother. ‘I don’t know if hell is certain, but I pray you’ll be burning, you treated me like a vermin’ those were always my favorite lyrics. My father wasn’t exactly the best man which is why my brother is almost always with a whore or some girl that he can easily manipulate.
Not to be hypocritical because I’ve done it on occasion only because I was touch starved and wanted human contact. I stopped and closed my eyes pinching the bridge of my nose, recalling the first time I had been in the human realm. I was fifteen and my dad had gone inside a place and left me alone. A young woman approached me. She ran her hand over my shirt buttons. I tried to block most of it out for so long. All I remember was it was in an alley that was only partially secluded, it was sloppy, bothersome, and all together not enjoyable.
My brother and I had gotten into an argument which is how I ran into Echo. She's one of my dad's messengers. He always says that I don’t do anything for him, which if we’re being honest then I would do anything for him. How dare he demand more from me. He’s a bit of a selfish bastard, as I walked I saw a familiar blonde girl.
It felt as though my heart had skipped a beat. No, that's not possible my heart wouldn’t start beating even if I had found my blood mate. Unless no that's not possible. I’m not a half blood, unless my mom was unfaithful, but no she wasn't. That was always my dad. It's not fucking possible it couldn’t be. I had to test the theory then. I touched the girl's shoulder.
“Hello?” She asked slightly confused. She had piercing green eyes and I felt a flutter again. “Hey, I’m sorry you looked slightly familiar.” I held out my hand “I’m Blake.” She ignored my hand and hugged me instead. “I’m Kailyr, but you can call me Kai.” Her friend pulled her off me “Sorry she's a bit grabby.I’m Paris” She laughed “Well sorry ladies but I have to get home.” I started to walk off “NIce to meet you Blake” Kai said I turned around and smiled FUCK MY LIFE, my mother must’ve had an affair or my brother would be a half blood as well.
I was shaking as I walked into the coffee shop, I pulled my laptop out and started to propose an email to my boss. My actual boss like the one that controls my salary at the restaurant I work at. I take a couple of deep breaths and sip the latte that I had ordered. It wasn’t done right but I didn’t care. My brother sat down on the opposite side of the table shortly after I got frustrated and slammed my laptop shut. “Lucas, what are you here to do? stress me out more?” I asked him
“Nope, I wanna go out and maybe go to the pub”
“We can’t luke, we have to be twenty-one not sixteen to drink. Trust me I’m gutted (devastated) just the same, I could really use a drink.” I said standing and starting to head home. I left a tip for the girl who had brought me my coffee. When I got home I freaked out, this couldn’t be happening. I took out a thin piece of metal and held it in my hand for a moment. When I was done testing the theory, I put on an all too familiar black jacket.
