"Vet Khan?" I'm not all that sure of what is going on here, I thought he was dead. It's like he never aged, looks the same the first day I met him.
Legends are spoken of about this man. How he killed a man with his bare hands, fought off 20 people at one time, and the most crazy one, wrestled a lion and won. He's who fighter want to be, inspire to be. He's quick as a cat, but fierce like a Jaguar.
"Hello Alexander." He says with a deep voice. His voice could bring a man to his knees.
"I... thought you were dead." He lets out a deep chuckle.
"As you can see, I'm 100% alive."
"Alexander, come and sit down." My mother tells me pointing out a spot next to her, I go and sit down.
I look around and observe who's in the room. On the couch it's me, my mom and dad. By the wall is Aren, Christian, Mr. and Mrs. Parbat. Along with Christian's dad.
"What brings you here Vet? I know it was dangerous for you to leave the island." My father asks the question we all have on our mind.
"Yeah, my brother still has a bounty on my head. I came here to look for my daughter, Katana Khan." I lift my head up intrigued by what he just said.
"Katana?" He nods his head.
"She's been missing a while now, it's hard to sniff her out since all us Khan's smell the same." I haven't seen Katana since I was 6 years old, she had to have been 12 at the time.
"When did she become a Khan?" Mrs. Parbat asked.
"She pledged the creed on her 17th birthday. I didn't want her to do it since you give up so much, but she was persistent. Her pledging means she had to give up her title, but you know how she can be?"
"We do." Everyone says in unison. As far back as I can remember, Katana was always tough and strong willed. When she would come over and visit, Arpa, Arens older sister, would spare with her. Arpa was a decent fighter, fighting wasn't in her blood like Aren. But once she started training with Katana, everything changed. When she would move, it was silence. She moved like water, hits were clean and precise. Katana was a god to us all.
"Should've came sooner your practically family Vet, I'll send out some scouts to look for her." My mother tells him.
"Thank you, Col, it's very nice of you."
"No problem, we know you would do the same for my Alexander." She gives me a small smile while clutching my hand.
"When did she go missing?" Aren asked readjusting her stance, Christian nods alongside her.
"About a year ago." He looks down, sadness fills his eyes.
"A year? Where could she have gone?" My mother's grip on my hand tightens. I rub her palm, trying to calm her down. I know what she's thinking of, how that could be me.
"We've been searching for her everywhere, one of our Khan's spotted her here when he was on a mission." Why would she be in St. Helena? "Ever since she lost the baby, she hasn't been the same."
"What baby?" Christian asked leaning on the couch.
"I don't want to get into it, that's not why I'm here. I just.... want to find my daughter." I'm intrigued by this whole baby thing; I don't remember Katana ever having a mate. Or just being in a relationship. "I sent my son, Kai, to find her but I haven't heard from him either."
"Is he also a Khan? Did he pledge the creed." Mr. Parbat questions.
"Yes, he pledged about a year ago."
"Who's your son?" Mr. Holt asks. I didn't even know he had another child. Vet pulls a polaroid out of his jacket, seeing the person in the picture, I gasp. No way, there's absolutely no way HE'S Kai. How could I not notice.
"Alexander you alright dude." I glance up to see Aren looking at me curiously.
"I'm fine... just shocked about the whole situation."
"I understand... it's a lot to take in, trust me I know." He puts the photo back in his jacket.
"Our scouts will go out first thing tomorrow morning to look for Katana and Kai. I'll send Oscar out. He's our best scout. They are some tough kids they'll be fine." My father reassures him.
"Toughest kids I know. Just like their mother."
"How's Yuki doing during all this?" Mrs. Parbat pours him some more tea in his cup. He gives her a small smile, showing his gratitude towards her nice gesture.
"She can't cope with it, so she's back at her home in Almeeria." I met Yuki once, she scared us as children. Very tall is what I mostly remember.
"I'll have to give her a call tomorrow it's been so long since I've talked to her." My mother gets up from the couch and heads down the hall.
"Let's go into my office and talk further about the search." My father, Mr. Holt, Mr. Parbat and Vet all walk down the hall to his office. Chattering echos down the hall. Leaving just me, Aren, Christian and Mrs. Parbat.
"While Katana and Kai are out there you three stay here tonight." Mrs. Parbat says sternly.
"Yes ma'am." We all say unison. Her glare stays on us for a few more seconds, then she walks off. We know better than to rebuttal Mrs. Parbat.
Rising up from the couch, I pull Aren and Christian outside with me. "Dude let go." Christian groans while trying to pull his arm away from my grip.
"Yeah man." Aren chimes in. I release my grip on them. "What's the matter?" The night winds howl around us.
"Kai, Vet's son I know who he is." They wait to me to tell them who it is. "You're both not going to even guess."
"Nah." Christian sucks his teeth, which I hate and he knows it.
"We don't feel like it, just tell us." Aren pushes her dark purple hair over her now tan shoulder.
"It's Lyle." Confusing expressions form on their faces.
"Yeah... we don't know a Lyle." Chrisitan says.
"Right, what he said." Aren chimes in.
"He works with Quinn at The Tribune. If he's the son of Vet and he's meant to be here looking for Katana, then why is she faking to be a teenager?" I explain.
"Maybe to blend in, you said it yourself he is the son of Vet, Yount or Sasha would kill him if they knew who he was." Chrisitan says. Makes sense, if I was on Yount or Sasha's kill list I would hide also.
"But why at The Tribune, why with Quinn? I have to tell her everything now, it's the perfect moment." I confess.
"Wait... what do you mean?" Aren gives me look, a you-better-not look.
"I have to tell Quinn who I am, what I am." Both of them shake their heads vigorously.
"Alex you can't do that, not now anyways with all this Katana mess going on it's on safe."
"I agree with Christian on this one."
"That's the thing, it will never be safe to tell her. She's my mate sooner or later she will start to have suspicions. I already couldn't tell her where I was for those two weeks, I can't lie to her anymore."
"Oh Jesus." Aren pulls her hair as she starts pacing.
"Christian think if this was Luci." Aren can't sympathize in this because she doesn't have a mate, but Christian does. "Wouldn't you want Luci to know who you really were? It eats me up every day that she can't know of this life, where I really live." I don't want to keep secrets anymore, I want to be me.
"Oh, don't you dare bring Luci into this." Aren waves her finger in my face. "Would you want to put Luci in harm Christian?"
"Well...no. God, don't put me in the middle of this." He puts his hands up in defense.
"I'm telling her, whether you both support it or not."
"What are you going to tell your father when you do? He will be furious." Christian says.
"He will be mad, but move on from it eventually. She needs to know." I walk off into the house, leaving them where they're at.
Leaning up against my truck, I wait for Quinneth to come out. Her grandfather has been using her car, because his doesn't work. I think she said it was something wrong with the battery or something like that.
She texted me last night to pick her up. Says that I owe her for what happened last week before I left her house. I know that I was in the wrong for reading her stuff, but she was keeping things from me. We are boyfriend and girlfriend now we have to tell each other everything, hence me wanting to tell her that I'm a werewolf.
I have no idea how she will react to it, hopefully she doesn't freak out to the point where she can't cope. Now that I know she's definitely a Zastitnik, I need to be able to help her. I won't tell her what she is until I tell her that I'm a werewolf. We spent over an hour on the phone last night talking about what happened in her room yesterday. She told me not to question her and don't snoop through her stuff, to go directly to her. I told her that I was sorry and the matter was laid to rest, or so she thinks.
I wanted to press her more about the visions, seen if she saw anything else but I'll just wait. Thinking of Quinn, I see her walking out the door with her bag slung over her shoulder. Her heels clank against the rocky ground. She walks kind of funny when she wears heels, but also kind of sexy, it's a weird thing. She clutches her black blazer to her body as a gust of wind comes through.
Walking out the building she's talking intently to Lyle. I can't believe Lyle is the son of Vet Khan. The legendary Vet Khan, warrior and King of the Khans. I didn't know that Vet had another kid, that's why I didn't notice him. Also, he must have found a way to mask his Khan smell, because I would have definitely figured it out when I first met him at the diner.
She notices me standing by my truck, waving bye to Lyle or should I say Kai, she skips over to me.
"Hi." A smile forms on her lips, but also a scowl. She's trying to remain mad about the situation, but she can't.
"Hey lotus." Her eyes brighten when she hears the name I call her. It took me awhile to find a nickname for her. I pull her by the waist to my chest and kiss her deeply on the lips. She shoves me back.
"Alexander we are in a public place." Her cheeks turn bright red. She hates when I kiss her in public, makes it seem like everyone is staring at us smooching.
"I don't care." I kiss her again; from the corner of my eye, I see Lyle. Reluctantly pulling my lips from hers, I readjust myself. I need to seem intimidating when I talk to him, so he'll give me all the information I need.
"Get in the car." I pat her on the butt while walking over to Lyle.
"Where are you going?" She semi-screams to me.
"To talk to your friend." I tell her.
"Don't be mean." I just shake my head.
"Just get in the car Quinn."
"Don't tell me what to do." I hear my car door shut behind me, all that for her just to do as I say.
"Lyle?" He says bye to a friend and turns his attention to me.
"Yea."
"Or should I say Kai." His eyes widen.
"How do you know that?" He whispers as he looks around, trying to see if anyone heard what I said.
"Your father came by the pack yesterday, and I can tell by the way you're looking at me you already knew." He lets out a deep sigh as he rubs his temples. "Now keep a smile on your face, I can feel Quinn staring at me I don't want her to think something is going on here." Me and Lyle plaster on a smile as we turn around to see Quinn waving at us. Turning back around, we resume the conversation.
"I knew that he was here, I could smell the scent of a powerful Khan when I was running in the woods yesterday."
"Why didn't you go and see him, he said he hasn't heard or seen from you in months." I could never leave my parents for a long period of time and not tell them where I was at. My mother would kill me, hug me and then kill me again. Also, I couldn't do that to them, too cruel.
"I can't." He shifts from side to side.
"Why not?"
"Because... I came here to look for my sister, Katana, and nothing has been accomplished. I can't go back to him with no news."
"My father and the scouts are helping your father locate her. Now, why are you working here with Quinn?"
"I don't like or want Quinn if that's what you think. Katana wants me to look out for her." I thought he hasn't seen her. "A couple months back when I first came to St. Helena, she told me she came here to keep an eye on Quinn."
"Why, it's not making any sense. The connection with Katana and Quinn isn't adding up."
"She knew that Quinn was your mate, and she kept rambling on about her being a Zastitnik and that she had to keep her safe from Sasha and Yount."
"I'm assuming this is about them wanting to resurrect the first power."
"Yeah, how did you know?"
"Quinn's having visions, also one of Sasha's goons gave me a message. Four lotuses rise, one falls." He looks at me, not moved by what I said.
"The First Power's symbol was the Black Lotus and there are four of them. They come back from the dead and Quinn falls, meaning she could potentially die." Fear overcomes his face.
"They won't get her, not with all of us protecting her."
"Got that right." I will die to protect Quinn if I have to.
