Alexander lets out a deep growl and starts running fast in the woods with me on his back. The St. Helena wind blows aggressively in my face as the tall trees pass us by. In all my years of being alive this is by far the coolest thing I've ever experienced.
"This is so cool!" I scream, the wind rushes in my mouth. "Ewe!" A leaf falls in it, I spit it out. I try to lift myself up a little, but I feel him growl under me, I stay in my regular position.
As if it was slow motion, a blue jay flies right past me. Its thin wings sweep past my face, tiny chirps come out, the smell of flowers waft into my nose.
Suddenly, Alexander starts to slow down. Usually, it takes like 30 minutes to get to the falls. With him running so fast we got here in the matter of 10 minutes. Gently, he kneels down so I can get off his back.
I readjust my hair as he walks away from me. "Where are you- oh you got to put your clothes on. I'll just wait- here." I find my hair wrapped all around my face, quickly I tie it in a neat bun. Alexander comes from around the tree with a white t-shift and red joggers on.
"Someone dressed up nice." He does a spin for me.
"You like? My mom got them for me." He smooths down his joggers.
"Your mom buys your clothes? At 19." I snicker.
"It gives her a sense of purpose in my life since I mostly do everything for myself."
"That's very nice of you." I pull him gently by his waist towards me. His warm energy surges through my body. We stand for what seemed like forever looking at the waterfall. In all of St. Helena, it's the prettiest thing here. No one who lives in the town actually comes out to see it, more of a tourist attraction. Since it's starting to get cold, no tourist have been out.
"It's memorizing." Alexander says in awe. I can see a bit of sparkle in his eyes.85Please respect copyright.PENANAwceukzYhZj
We stand on a hill overlooking the waterfall. Big, giant Boulder rocks trickle down the hill until it pans down into the crystal blue water. The water beats against them, creating loud whooshing sounds. If you squint your eyes, you can see jumping fish, some blue and some yellow.
"Yeah, I've been meaning to paint it for a long time. Just haven't gotten around to It."
"Well, you should. I'd love to see it." He kisses me on my cheek and goes to sit on the grass. I follow behind him, trying to get comfortable.
"So, ask all the questions you want."
"Ok." I pull out my notebook and flip to the question page.
"That's a lot of questions Quinn. I don't think we'll be able to get all of them." He says worriedly.
"Oh, it's alright we can just ask the surface ones." I reassure him. "I didn't want to forget anything so if I thought of a question, it was instantly written down."
"Sometimes I wonder if I'm dating a 17-year-old or an 80-year-old." He says gently kissing my forehead.
"Leave me alone bully." I grumble. "I sometimes ponder on the thought of how we could be mates."
He freezes up, "Uh mates? Who told y-."
"Your father." I interject. "He told me in the meeting, accidently of course, but he told me you would say more about it." I looked at him with hopeful eyes.
"Yeah, of course. You can find your mate at any time in your life. Mates are their destined soulmates and they are chosen by the moon goddess. We are very possessive of each other especially the male wolves. Mates will be together for eternity, until one dies of course." My eyes widen when he says eternity.
"Uh....eternity like forever?"
"That's kind of what eternity means, Quinn."
"So, your it for me. I thought that I would date like 100 guys before I found 'the one', you know."
"You ok with that? Being with me forever." Oh, crap that came out wrong, I didn't want him to think that I didn't want to be with him forever, or regret all of this.
"Partially." His face wobbles. "My feelings for you are strong, but I can't promise you forever, it's unrealistic." I hold a firm grasp on his hand. "It's just shocking to me that's all, I'm glad you're my mate though." I kiss his lips; he smiles against them. I get back to the questions at hand.
"Your father's the Alpha of your pack. That means you'll be next, right?"
"Correct."
"Then that makes me the next Luna." I point to myself.
"Yes, but no." I frown. "When our relationship grows stronger, and if you want to, we will marry. Both of us will be Alpha's, well you being called Alphfina or just Alpha Female."
"Why wouldn't I be a Luna? Is it because I'm a human?"
"No, not at all. We belong to a Kingdom, Nygaard. Accalia, who is the wife of the Alpha King, is referred to as Luna. You and her both wouldn't be called Luna because she's royalty and you're not. It's just all about rank." He explains.
"Ok. So, when I become Alpha female will I do what you do?"
"Yeah, every decision, law or move that is made will be us, together." Online it said that women didn't do anything the men did. I'm glad that I'll be able to make decisions and be an important part of the pack. "You'll be an excellent Alpha Female, like my mother." I can't wait to meet his mother; from the way he talks about her she sounds amazing.
"I know this is.... kind of weird for me to ask and may make me look like the worst girlfriend ever. Do you have any siblings?" He lets out a hearty laugh.
"It's just me. After my mom had me, she had a difficult time having more children. But when my father's sister died, he inherited both her children-."
"Greta and Lamon." I interject. He gives me a smile.
"Correct again." He softly pats my thigh. "In the War of Fathers, their father fought alongside the past King. The result, him and his wife both lost their life's."
"That's heartbreaking I could imagine how they felt." I know what it's like to lose parents, both at that. "Greta works at the company with you and your father, but where's Lamon."
"He's in Nygaard. Also, up there is Luci."
"Luci?" I've never heard him mention that name before.
"That's Christian's mate."
"And what's a keeper exactly, like a person who keep's people or something."
"Not even close Quinn. A keeper is someone who holds all the information in Nygaard. Not just Nygaard, but all the worlds and Kingdoms."
"Wait hold the phone. Did you say worlds? Like other dimensions or something?" If he's about to tell me that like giants and stuff exist, I'm literally going to scream.
"More like just other locations around the world. Such as vampires, witches and such." I tighten my grip on his hand.
"Vampires....the one with the sharp teeth actually exist. You've got to take me to meet one."
"That I will not do. You do know werewolves and vampires don't get along."
"That myth is real?" He nods his head.
"100%."
"I'm learning so much right now." I make sure my brain absorbs all of what he's saying and keeps it on lock.
"How many kingdoms are there?" I ask, sitting my legs in his lap. His callused hands run down my smooth legs I just shaved last night.
"8." Uh that's peculiar. Last time I check theirs 7 continents not eight.
"Shouldn't there be 7 kingdoms, since there's 7 continents."
"It used to be 7, but about 20 years ago there was another addition, by Yount."
"Yount?"
"Our Kings brother." Why would the brother of a king create his own kingdom?
"Ok, now you have to explain this to me." I tell him impatiently.
"Quinn, the story is long." He groans.
"I've got time." I start to get comfortable.
"Ok, we have to start from the beginning. The last king, Adolfo, had three sons. Adolfo was a good, but ruthless king. All of his sons were different in every way. The first problem started with his oldest son. He was responsible and cool-headed, he looked for the great in people and helped in any way he could. For years he wanted to be a Khan, but his father wouldn't let him because he was the heir to Nygaard. The son knew that his father wouldn't give him his permission, so he left in the middle of the night to the Island of Khan. Khans are trained fighters that work for all 8 kingdoms. They protect people who are in grave danger, he wanted to help people, just not from a throne. When he arrived to the Island the people were surprised to see him, they had no choice but to swear him to the creed. Once his father found out, he was enraged by his son's selfishness, in result the King banned him from Nygaard." I thought my life was complicated, listening to this makes me rethink everything.
"If the Khan's knew who he was why did they swear him in anyways?"
"Anyone who wants to be a Khan cannot be turned away, even if they are the future king."
"Insane." I whisper silently.
"Now onto the second son. This son was not like the oldest or youngest, he was ruthless and wicked. Some of the maids and tutors to the middle son said he was like the living descendant of the devil. His father tried to whip him into shape, but nothing worked. As the middle son got older, his behavior subsided. Most of his attention was shifted onto his military career. In all of Nygaard, he was the best captain we've ever seen, leading victory after victory. Since the oldest was now banished, the King had high hopes for the middle child to be the best ruler when he died. Everything was looking good, until the middle son was taken off his path by a beautiful woman from the Kingdom of Luxor. They met at a ball there, she was the daughter of a doctor. She was beautiful, he thought she was an angel from above. For the few months he was there, the love blossomed between them. In that moment he knew he had to marry her, on his voyage home he married her at the nearest church. When he came back to Nygaard, he told his father the happy news, the King was very angry at the middle child."
"Why was his father so mad, he was happy." I know if I got married, even if my grandpa didn't agree, he would still be happy for me.
"That didn't matter to the King. Wolfs are supposed to marry and procreate with their mates, not anyone else. Him marrying her was a sin to the moon goddess herself. We don't choose who we want to be with, she does. For him to marry her was a diss. Since his father did not accept their relationship, he took him out of the line of succession. The son was enraged and never forgave him."
"Is he still with her?"
"Yes, they have one child together. She's most likely my age, or yours. Now the first son is banished, second is taken out the line of succession that leaves the youngest son."
"Let me guess, he married a vampire and his father was mad and banished him to 100 years of pain." I say sarcastically.
"Not exactly." His fingers go back to my thighs, rubbing the inner part. "The youngest son was the perfect choice. He took his older brothers job of being the captain and next in line. He married his mate, and they have a son together. Once the King died, he took over, becoming King Adalwolf."
"You've got to take me to Nygaard sometime soon. This is all too fascinating , it's like Game of Thrones." My eyes widen.
"It won't be anytime soon." I give him a weird look; he takes notice of this and keeps explaining. "There's been some unrest in the Kingdom, old enemies trying to reclaim something."
"Reclaim what?"
"Nygaard." He says pushing some of his hair out of his eye.
"Who wants to take it?" This is all too much, but I'm intrigued.
"The middle brother. The kingdom was supposed to be his, not the youngest. Him and his daughter are trying to find the key to the First Power so he can reclaim it." A key.
"Who's the key?" His black eyes swarm all over me, fear starts to set in. From his body language, I could tell he was scared to tell me.
"Well, would you look at that, it's time to take you home. Don't want your grandfather angry now do we?" Instead of pushing him I let it go. I'll just ask him later; I don't know why he just won't tell me.
While I yet again readjust my hair, Alexander shifts back and puts his clothes on.
"Did I answer everything on your list." He asked.
"Not all, but most of my big ones. Thank you for this."
"Anytime." He leans down and plants a sweet kiss on my lips. I moan against them as he grips my hip.
"Ok, I've got to go. Homework calls." I push him away.
"Ewe homework. Glad I'm not in high school anymore." I let out a laugh.
"Quinneth?" I hear someone say behind me. Turning around, I see my grandpa standing against the door, his mouth hangs open. Oh Jesus, he was supposed to be out with Irene.
Worry decorates me and Alexander's face. Did he see Alexander shift, did he hear our conversation?
"Hey Grandpa." I say awkwardly.
"Quinneth...come in the house. We need to talk." He says in a serious tone. Honestly, I thought that somehow I would blurt out that Alexander was a werewolf. This is not what I expected to happen.
I turn around to Alexander, unsure of what to do. "Just go. Act innocent." He stares deeply into my eyes, I gulp loudly.
"No, not just Quinneth you to Alexander." He points to him to come on.
"You don't have to come if you don't want." I assure him. He shakes his head.
"I'll come, we'll face this together." Hand in hand, we walk into the house, uncertain of what will happen.
