"Myers. What are you doing here?" I asked him while shuffling through my book. I try to focus on my work, but him being here distracts everything. Things, I thought, were just getting back to normal. He ruins everything.
"Can't I come and visit my ex-girlfriend?" A sly look comes on his face. His appearance looks- different. His brown hair is now longer, hiding his elf-like ears. Those brown eyes are now more chocolate than what they used to be. And the bruises that Alexander gave him the night of our date are now gone. He looks healthier and more alive. I HATE it.
"No, you can't. Not when she hates your guts." I sneer at him. He laughs at my comment, finding humor in the fact that I hate him to the core. He was my first boyfriend, the first guy to kiss me and turns out he was only dating me because of Sasha. Everything bad that has happened in my life has been because of that women. Her obsession to wake up the First Power and conquer over a Kingdom that I don't think is hers to take.
"Ouch, that hurt me. I just wanted to sit in on Mr. Branhammer's lesson. It's quite interesting the way of economics. The price goes up and the-". I cut him off instantly, not interested in what he has to say.
"Why are you here Myers? And I want the truth, no lies." He readjusts his leather black jacket while smoothly shifting in the plastic seats.
"I told you that already. I want to hang with you." I let out a groan while rolling my eyes. Looking towards the black and white clock, I see I have 30 more minutes in this class. Man, I really wish I had the power to speed up time it would come in handy here.
"I'm ignoring you now." I bury myself in my work, being kidnapped had me missed two days of work. In the corner of my eye, I see him staring intently at me. Those chocolate eyes try to figure me out, break me down. He's got the wrong person; he can't break me even if it was his life's mission.
He won't touch Quinneth Worthingshire.
The bells rings, finally I can get away from him. Gathering up my books, I head out the classroom with Myer's hot on my trail. His manly perfumes linger into my nose, his smell was always my kryptonite. I stop dead in the hall; people turn and stare at me. Wondering why that random girl is stopped so suddenly in the middle of the hallway, in the middle of student traffic.
Turning slowly around to him, I see that grim smile pop up on his face once again. I grab him by his strong arm and drag us both down the hallway. Going to the end of the hall, I find a empty biology class room. Slinging Myers in it, I lock the door behind us. Sadly, trapping me inside with him.
He pans his hands over the biology table, probably thinking of sick things to do like dissecting me on it. Ripping out my major organs and scattering them across the world. My grandpa won't ever know what happened to his beloved granddaughter. My imagination does run amuck sometimes, I need to control that.
"What do you want Quinn?" His bushy eyebrow lifts.
"No, what the hell do you want!? Sasha's dead, haven't you heard. You don't have to stalk me anymore your relieved of that." His hands leave the black, smooth table and come up to me. That intoxicating smell fills the air around me.
"Yes, she is in fact dead. But you are still wanted." He walks around me, looking my body up and down. Those cold, dead chocolate eyes stare at my hips. I guard my body with my hands, trying to shy away from him.
"Stop looking at me like that. Also, what do you mean I'm still wanted."
"Quinneth honey, you'll never be safe. You are the only known Zastitnik to be alive, the only real connection to the First Power. Many would want you."
"Like Who?"
His finger swirls around a loose curl that hangs from my head. I swat it away, disgusted that he's touching me. "You are worth more than you know Quinneth."
"Who is it Myers." He lets out a rough laugh.
"Now you know I can't tell you that."
"Isn't your alliance to Insofar?" Last time I checked he was working for Sasha, who was the Princess of Insofar. And whose father was the king, who I have yet to meet and don't want to meet.
"Not anymore, my services were no longer needed. The Sapphire family is not one to be. . .so nice to their staff I had to move onwards. Onwards to a more powerful family."
"Powerful family. Like the Originals or something?"
"This isn't Vampire Diaries Quinn, it's real life. Keep yourself safe, and don't do anything stupid." He gives me a pat on the back, behind me I hear the door open and close. I'm suddenly left in the Biology classroom, filled with dead frogs and chemical smells filling the air. What did he mean that he's working for a new family, a powerful one at that? Why do I suddenly feel like Elena from Vampire Diaries?
Leaving out the classroom, I see Myers sticking his tongue down some innocent girl's throat. When I get closer to see who it is. It's not a victim, but the culprit Tara Tang. I never skip. . .but I can't stay here all day while he's here.
I head out the steel doors walking into the parking lot towards my car. Grandpa was right. . .I just need to chill and relax. I thought I could handle coming into school, being a normal teen. But I'm not a normal teen, not even close to it.
I'm a 17-year-old girl who is a descendent of the First Power. Not by blood, but by magic. My boyfriend is a werewolf, and my best friend is M.I.A. I lean my head against the steering wheel, will things ever get back to normal? I feel like theirs always this. . .bounty on my head.
Starting the car, I leave Batcarvers behind and head to a house. . .Lyra's house.
Parking in the long drive way of Lyra's house, I lock my doors and head up the walkway. You could say Lyra was really rich. Her father own's a few stores around town, the big ones at that. Her mother on the other hand is a stay-at-home mom. She loves to garden, and has a deep love of wind chimes.
What felt like I was walking for 20 minutes I reach the front door. It stands at 8ft long, it's an oak wood door. Lyra's mother's wind chimes sing throughout the outside of the house. It's rather soothing, but annoying also.
Before my hand could even knock on the door, my phone starts to ring. It just had to ring now, not the 20 minutes I spent walking up to get here to the door. Looking at the caller ID, I see my grandpa's photo pop up. I really need to change that, it's him sitting on the couch with his mouth full of cereal. I told him to pose for a photo and that's what he gave me. He hates it till this day.
"Hey Grandpa what's up?"
"Quinneth you need to get home now." Anxiousness swarms up his throat.
"I just got to Lyra's house; can't this wait."
"No, it can't. Be here in 30 minutes." After saying that, he hangs up the phone. You've got to be kidding me. I walk down the driveway back to my car. My legs ache under me, this better be good.
"Ok Grandpa what was the reason I had to leave Lyra's house." I slam the door shut, waiting for him to come from where he was in the house.
"Come in here Quinn." I hear his voice coming from the living room. I leave my backpack at the door, as I walk into the living room. On the couch sits my Grandpa, Alexander, his father and Katana. Also, her father sits right next to her. What is this an intervention for the Zastitnik or something?
"People don't really gather together unless it's bad news. What's going on?" All their eyes revert down to our shaggy carpet. Except Alexander.
"Come here, Quinn." His hand is held out for me to grab. I put my hand in his, he directs me to sit next to him on the couch.
"I repeat again, what's going on?"
"Something bad has happened." My Grandpa finally says breaking the weird silence in the room.
"Bad? Like 'someone-was-hurt-bad'?"
"More like 'someone-is-dead-bad." Katana chimes in. My heart starts to beat out of my chest, that feeling is coming back again. The feeling I got when I thought Alexander had died.
"Who was it?" I asked.
"A pack member." Alexander's father says. His face wears a cold expression, almost like he's trying to keep composure.
"On his body was left this symbol." Mr. Germani lays a photo on the table. I lean forward, it's the picture of the pack guy that died. On his chest lays a symbol. It's a red circle with some weird lines in the middle.
"Uh, what is that symbol?" I look around for answers, for anyone to crack this mystery.
Everyone in the room looks at each other, scared to udder any type of word. Finally, Vet say's something, "It's a symbol for a red wolf. A red wolf killed this pack member, we think it may be Sasha."
Oh god no. She can't be alive. . .I don't want her alive.
"This-this can't be real." I mutter to myself. Alexander looks at the side of my face, worrying about if I can cope with all of this. Things were just getting back to normal, something inside of me, a small part, thought something bad would happen. That the worst has just begun.
"Well, it is. She is a red wolf, it's hard to kill one of those." Katana mentions. Her fingers trails over the red wolf mark, around and around it goes circling the circle. I stare intently at it, thinking of who would leave that mark.
"Alexander killed Sasha; it's ruled out that it isn't her." says my grandpa.
"But did she really die?" Katana's eyes go directly in Alexander's line of vision. She analyzes him, trying to put herself in his shoes.
"Wha- yes she did. I saw the life drain from her body. I saw her take her last breath." A stem of anger comes through his voice. As if he's aggravated by Katana questioning him.
"I'm just saying Alexander, I've killed a few people 'thinking' they were dead and weren't." She says as her hands clasp together. The jet-black hair that once sat on her shoulders is now cut into a very short bob. I'm assuming when she was running around in the woods, she couldn't find a good salon. Without her long hair she looks more. . .scary and tough.
"She's dead, end of discussion." Alexanders leans back on the couch. I loop my arm around his hips, trying to calm him down a little. My finger lifts up his shirt, trailing skin, I see the heat leave his eyes.
"Whether she's dead or not, someone who is a red wolf is targeting us specifically. We have to figure out who it is and stop them." says Mr. Germani.
"Second that."
"Ditto."
"Do you guys know any other red wolfs that it could be?" I asked them. They all lean their eyes up to the ceiling, most likely trying to figure out any and every red wolf they know and that could've done this.
"Piper Pryde." Was all Katana said.
"Who's Piper Pryde?" I asked her.
"She's a daughter of Sylo, like Katherine Constantine. But Piper is the worst of them all, she kills for the thrill of it. A couple months back I came across a few dead bodies. They had these same marks on it, when I smelled around, it was the scent of Piper."
"To have someone's scent, you need to know them. Did you. . .know Piper like that?" asked my grandpa. I remember Alexander telling me that, before everything wild happened. The only way to pick up on a person's scent is to know the person well enough. Obviously, she has or had some type of connection with this Piper Pryde.
"Before I became a Khan, and my uncle didn't want me and my father dead, I lived in Insofar. I trained alongside the daughters of Sylo, learning from the best Sylo Sniper. Me and Piper got along well. . .until she started killing people for fun. So, I shied away from her focusing on myself, getting better and faster."
"But why would Piper kill one of ours?"
"For revenge. We did kill the King's only heir to his kingdom." Vet said in a matter-of-fact tone. "And If I know anything about my brother, he can hold on to a grudge."
Mr. Germani's phone starts to ring. "Excuse me for a moment." He walks down the hall towards the kitchen to take his call. While he's doing that, we all just think to ourselves.
"Wait Quinn, when I called you, you were at Lyra's house." My Grandpa eyes me, damn it he knows that I skipped. I should have just listened to him when he told me to stay at home. I've never skipped before; this was my first time.
"Yesssss." I drag out the word slowly.
"Did you skip?" Before I have a chance to answer his question, Mr. Germani comes in the living room. A sour look comes on his face, like he's gotten the worst news of his life.
"Oh look Mr. Germani's back, let's see what he has to say." He gave me a look of 'this is not over', please let it me.
"We need to go, now." Everyone stands up. Katana and Vet follow Mr. Germani to his car outside. Before Alexander could go outside, I pulled him by his arm over to the staircase.
"You, ok?" His hand strokes my cheek softly. I lean into his touch; he always calms me down. Whenever I'm rowed up or even nervous, he's there to calm me down.
"Yes- well no. Do you really think that it's this Piper Pryde girl?" He looks down at his shoes then me.
"It has to be, definitely can't be Sasha she's dead. Piper would step up to the plate, willing to kill for anything."
"This is all because of me. Maybe I should just give myself over." His eyes rattle over my crazy comment.
"Are you crazy? Don't answer that because I know you are." I give him a look. "We are not turning you over to them."
"What if they keep killing people, I can't handle people dying on account of me." These are innocent people dying for the likes of me. Who's next, my grandpa? Mr. Germani? Aren or Aora? I know waking up the First Power won't be the best thing to do, but it's better than other's dying.
"That's what being in a pack is all about. You live and die. We will figure out who's killed that pack member, whoever it is we will take them down. We survived Sasha then we can survive anything."
"If you're so sure."
"What did your grandpa mean about you calling from Lyra's house. Did you skip?"
"Yeah, I did."
"You never skip, ever. Hell, you don't even do anything bad except for sneaking me in your bedroom, which I loved by the way." I shoved his shoulder, a smile comes on my lips.
"I had to leave, Myer's showed up and kept stalking me." His eyes widen, a certain anger overcomes him. Whenever I mention Myer's name, he gets angry.
"What the hell did he want, the fact that he talked to you I should rip his throat out."
"You don't know how much I would enjoy that." I don't really think mean things about people, but Myer's deserves it. I mean dating someone for information is downright wrong, and leading them on is equally wrong.
"What did he want? He shouldn't be caring about you anymore, Sasha is dead."
"That's what I said to him, but he said that he doesn't work for Sasha and Insofar anymore. Now he works for a powerful family, I assumed it was the originals."
"Quinneth fictional TV is just that fictional. . .did he give any hints about who this 'powerful family' is?"
"No, didn't get enough time to. I left the school and now I'm here."
He pulls me close to him by my waist, "I'll tell my father about this, see if he can get some information. Until further notice maybe you should take a couple days off from school. Take time to yourself, and to keep you safe."
Usually I would object, but I think he's right and so was my grandpa. I wanted to get back to my life, but with this killing happening and a bounty on my head the best thing for me is to lay low.
"Fine, you should get going."
"Yeah, see you later." He kisses me on my lips and heads out the door. I watch him get into his truck and pull out the driveway.
Walking into the kitchen to grab myself a water, I see someone in the backyard. Their sitting on a rock, body facing the trees. The wind blows through their bright red hair, freckles show on the back of their neck.
I don't know anyone with bright red hair except for Lyra. But this person has curly ginger locks that flows in the wind. Looking down the hall, I see Grandpa outside on the phone. Most likely talking to the coroner's office, trying to hear more about the body. I've never seen him more invested in something, well except for his books.
Leaving my unopened water bottle on the counter, I walk outside. The ginger locked person doesn't bother to turn around. My feet crunches on the brown and orange leaves, hesitant on walking closer to the person.
Suddenly, I stop walking. The unknown person's hands come down from meditating, slowly they turn around. I come in contact with a girl's bright green eyes. She's. . .scary but beautiful. There's something about her, something dark and mysterious.
We just stare at each other for what seemed like eternity, she rises up from the rock. Walking over to me, analyzing me up and down.
"Hey Quinneth I forgot to give yo-". I hear Alexander's voice say from behind me. He stops in his tracks, fury chows through him. "Quinn baby, don't move any closer to her. Back up slowly."
"You're scaring me Alexander, who is this?"
"Someone you'll never want to know?"
"Don't be like that Sascha, I thought you would be excited to see me." A sadistic sincere look comes on her face.
"Alexander, who is this? Tell me." His head turns slowly in my direction, two words escape his lips.
"Piper Pryde."
