I gawk at the girl with the wavy ginger hair. She stands at around 5ft 11inches. Her longs legs are insinuated by the long jacket she wears around her waist. On her back I can see a small sword. I bet she's killed many people with that sword, probably killed the pack member with it.
I feel someone standing behind me, its Alexander. I've been focusing most of my attention on the girl and I didn't even notice his presence. His shaky hand squeezes on the side of my waist, it's a warning. Telling me to stay calm, and don't do anything irrational.
"What do you want Piper." Alexander finally says. He looks as if he would leap over me and strangle her. Besides Katherine Constantine, this is the second daughter of Sylo I've ever met. They are very intimidating women; I would hate to meet their ring leader Sylo Sniper.
"Oh, don't be scared Sascha and Sascha's mate. I just wanted to come down and pay my respects to your fallen soldier." A playful smile comes on her face, I can hear the mocking tone in her voice. Her tongue scrapes over her perfect sharpens teeth.
"The fallen solider that you killed." Alexander sneers.
She lets out a shocking gasp. Her hand clutches her imaginary pearls. "How dare you accuse me of something I did. I'm appalled, is this how you treat a lady."
"Your no lady, just a psycho asking to be killed."
"Like you killed Sasha." She takes only three steps and is suddenly in front of us. Without injuring Alexander, she snatches me up. That sword that was once around her back is now grazing against the front of my neck. Her other arm wraps around my waist, holding me captive in her arms. Even if I wanted to escape, I would most likely die.
"Let me go!" I scream at her, thrashing under her grip. She lets out a deep chuckle that rumples her chest and vibrates my back.
"Ah you got you a good one here Sascha. She's. . .feisty I've always liked them feisty." Across the yard I see Alexander, and look of horror is on his face.
"Let her go, Piper." His voice wary, hands trembling.
"Mhm. . .but I don't wanna." She whines like a child. "And she looks like a screamer, are you a screamer little girl."
"PIPER!" He screams.
"SASCHA!" Piper screams back even louder. A gross laugh erupts from her throat, she's fucking crazy. She reminds me of Villanelle, Russian accent and all. Her knife that was once against my neck is now plunged in Alexander's forearm. He groans out in pain as he cowers over on the ground. Dark crimson blood drags down his arm and onto the green grass.
"What the hell is wrong with you, leave him alone." I try to get out of her grip to help Alexander, but I fail tremendously.
"But I don't want to, I'm having fun. If you move around one more time, you'll be stabbed next. Now, watch this." Another knife purposely slips from her hand and landed in his other arm; another painful groan escapes. His eyes look to mine, pleading with me for the pain to stop.
I start to get angry; my blood starts to feel hot like a sauna. You can mess with me all you want, but not my baby.
A hard breath plunges in and out of me as I try to control it. All I see is someone hurting Alexander, my mate. The person I'm going to spend the rest of my life with.
"Leave him alone, or else." My voice darkens, like the pool of pain in Alexander's eyes. Piper laughs yet again.
"Quinneth stay out of this." Alexander manages to muster out. Using all his energy to say that one line.
"No Alexander!" I bark. "She's hurting you, I can't let that happen." My anger surges out. Around us, I unconsciously create a ring of fire. The flames are a bright red and dark orange, the heat starts to make both of us sweat.
"What the hell." Piper whispers under her breath, but I'm able to hear it.
"If you don't stop hurting Alexander and let me go, I will kill the both of us." I scream over the fire; I make the fire even bigger and grandeur.
"Quinneth don't do this!" Alexander is now on his feet trying to come over to us.
"I don't want to do this, but Piper is pushing me. It's up to her." I can feel her working it out in her brain, trying to figure out what exactly to do.
"Fine- fine." She throws me on the ground, I stop the fire. Leaving her in the spot she was before, I rush over to Alexander.
"Where did you learn to do that?" He groans as I try to remove the knifes from his arms.
"Katana taught me, that's not important right now, taking care of you is." Since the kidnapping, Katana has been coming over and teaching me how to control it. When the fire started raging, I was scared. I went a little overboard, but I needed to show Piper how serious I was. Of course, I wasn't going to kill her or me, but she doesn't need to know that.
"Pull them out Quinn." Saliva pools out the corner of his mouth, eyes are tightly woven together as is his fist.
"What, are you sure? They look pretty stuck in there." My finger trails over the silver knifes.
"Baby, you've got to do it. NOW!"
"Ok, 1. . .2. . .3!" I yank both the knifes out at one time. Saliva starts to ooze out of his mouth even more as he bites his tongue. "Are you ok?"
"Oh, I don't know there was two knifes stuck in my arm." I give him a scolding look.
"Don't be sassy, I saved your life." Turning around I see Piper is looking down at us, analyzing how we interact with each other.
"Sasha said you had the powers of a Zastitnik, but I didn't think you had anything like that. Amazing, really."
"Just leave."
"Not before delivering a message. If you don't turn yourself over, Quinneth, someone will die within the next 24 hrs."After leaving the non-cryptic message she vanishes through the woods.
"How did you stop Piper?" Katana asked.
"I used my powers. . .fire." A smile comes across her lips.
"Good job. You are not under any circumstances going with them."Katana said.
"I know. . .but what if they kill another person because of me. I-"
"Trust me, she won't. You are my mission, and I will not fail to protect you." She seems so determined; it scares me but makes me feel protected. She's been around the daughters of Sylo, and Piper Pryde most of the time. If she believes she won't hurt anyone else, then I can live with that.
"Not to be. . .selfish or anything. But why are you so adamant on protecting me. It's just- we don't really know each other that well, but yet you're willing to lay your life on the line for me. Does this have anything to do with Shilah, Sasha's sister?" I see something in her eyes. . .something I'd never seen before. Nervousness.
"I'm just doing my duty, completing my mission. Just leave it alone." Her voice comes out hard.
I scoot closer to her on my bed, "You can trust me Katana, I won't tell anyone. Please."
She lets out a breath, then tells me the story. "Years ago, when I stayed in Insofar, I was close with Tura. Tura was Yount's wife, Queen of Insofar and Sasha's step-mother. In a matter of time, she fell pregnant, she was so ecstatic and so was my uncle. On the other hand, not everyone was happy, Sasha's mother, Stella, resented Tura and her unborn child. Tura being pregnant meant that Sasha was no longer first in line, but second in line."
"Sasha was second in line because she wasn't the child of Yount's mate."
"Exactly. Once Tura started to wind down in her pregnancy, she started to become paranoid. One day I saw her in the library reading a book, then suddenly she started to freak out. They had to keep her trapped in the room, she wanted to harm the baby. She kept whispering of a danger, something that would kill her child."
"Once she had the baby, I was commissioned to send the baby out of Insofar to a pack in Nygaard. At the time I didn't know who the baby was, no one told me for my and the baby's protection. It was my first mission, and I took it seriously. A few weeks after dropping her off at the pack, it was raided by rouges. Everyone there ended up dying." From her telling me this story, I understand why she is so focused on saving me.
"That's why you are determined to make sure I'm ok. Because you couldn't protect her."
"Yeah." After that the conversation was laid to rest.
"Oh god. How are you feeling?" I asked Alexander as I sit down next to him. A white fluffy cover is draped over my shoulders by Alexander. It's rather chilly inside his room, the last time I was in here was when I bandaged him up from his fight with Sasha. Since then, the room looks quite different.
His dresser drawer is moved on the wall facing the window. Last time it was on the wall where his bathroom is.
"I'm fine, I'm still a little weak." He lets out a small groan as he tries to lift his arms up. They raise up a few inches then fall right back to their original spot. White bandages are wrapped around his arms, a small bit of blood is shown through them.
"Why haven't you healed yet?" Usually when I bandage him up, he heals within 5 minutes. Piper stabbed him in the arms over a day ago and he still isn't better. I hope nothing. . .bad happens to him.
"The knife was laced with monkshood. It's deadly to werewolves." I grab his hand in mine, too quickly, and he starts to groan.
"Sorry." I thought Piper just came to hurt me and Alexander, scare us into submission. Not exactly, she wanted to kill him. Most likely to get him out the way, so taking me would be an easy task for her. "You said deadly, are you. . .dying or something?"
He pats my hand gently, laying all my bad thought to rest, "I'm not going to die Quinn. There are herbs that can help stop the poison from going onto my system. I got here just in time, if I didn't then I'd be-
"Dead." I finish his sentence.
"Exactly, I'll be weak for a couple days so don't go getting into any trouble." I smile and give him a peck on his cheek while rubbing his strong back gently.
"I'll try and contain myself." I assure him.
"How did you do that?" He questions.
"Do what?" I asked curiously.
"The ring of fire around you and Piper. I didn't know you could do that." A look of surprise comes across his face, also he looks a little proud and impressed.
"Me either. I've been practicing with Katana, she's taught me how to control it, and not let it get out of control."
"Katana huh?"
"Yep. She's been helpful, I like her." We just sit in his room on the bed, bathing in each other's presence.
"How are you doing with everything?" I asked Lyra on the phone. "Excuse me ma'am." I say to the black-haired woman in the frozen food isle. The lady gives me a warm smile and lets me through. I'm currently at the grocery store getting some food to stock up on in the house. Lately, me and my grandpa have been eating fast food. With everything happening, groceries haven't been on the top of the list.
"I should be asking you that." Over the phone I hear shuffling around, sounds like she's putting something up or whatever. I haven't seen Lyra since the whole kidnapping thing happened, when I called her to say that I was fine she was so happy. If she hadn't gotten away to tell Grandpa, I don't know where I would be right now.
"I'm. . .going." Is all I say. I grab a couple cans of vegetables and put them in the cart.
"Why didn't you tell me about that whole other world. The werewolves and vampires and you having extraterrestrial powers! It's a lot to wrap my head around."
"Oh, you don't know the half of it, and I'm not an alien! I couldn't tell you, Alexander made me promise." I confess.
"But I'm your best friend." I let out a sigh. I've known Lyra since I was a kid, and she's been my closest confidant. We would tell each other everything, and when I say everything, I mean everything. She told me when she got her first kiss, and I told her when I got my first period. She's been the closest thing I've ever had to a sibling, a sister.
There were times when I wanted to tell her everything. Tell her that Alexander was a werewolf, and that a psycho red wolf was coming after me so I could wake up some dead witches. Also, that I have powers that originate from a Greek goddess.
"I know you are. I couldn't tell you about Alexander and all that because it's a big secret. If it got out it wouldn't just affect him, but all of his pack." Opening the frozen freezer door, I grab a pack of waffles.
"I get it. It's just. . .so crazy to think about. Wait, when we went into the woods and we saw that wolf, did you know about them then."
"Uh no I didn't. That's why I wasn't talking to Alexander. He disappeared for two weeks and wouldn't tell me why, the reason pertained to werewolves."
"Makes sense, so what's going on with everything right now?" She asks, I can imagine her lips are pursed as she fiddles with her press ons.
"Since Sasha's dead, she's out the way. But there's another girl in the mix, Piper Pryde. She killed a pack member a few days ago and stabbed Alexander in the arms." I hear her wince over the phone, disgusted by the whole thing.
"God, is he ok?"
"The knifes were laced with monkshood, it's a deadly plant to werewolves. He's a little weak right now, but he'll get better over time."
"I can't understand how you must have felt, Quinneth stay safe ok I can't go on in life without you."
"You either. Hey, I've got get off the phone. I need to pay for these groceries and get home."
"Ok, call me later. Bye."
"Bye."
Kicking open the front door with my foot, I shuffle with the groceries in my hand. Trudging my way thought the hallway, I reach the kitchen and sling the groceries on the counter.
"Impressive." I say to myself. I made an attempt to bring all the food in at once, and it actually happened. Running back down the hall I shut the door open and procced back to the kitchen. I thought my grandpa would be here, but he must be at the pack house or out with Irene.
Putting up the groceries, I hear a knock at the door, opening it up I see it's Irene. I guess he's not with her then since she's here.
"Hey Irene. If you're looking for my grandpa he isn't here." She gives me a warm smile. Her purple shawl hangs lowly on her shoulders.
"Oh, ok. I'll just wait in the living room then." She comes on in and walks to our couch and sits down. Her one leg crosses over the other.
"If you need anything, I'll be in the kitchen." I call out.
"What are you doing in there? Making a tasty meal."
"No." I laugh. "Just putting up groceries."
"Alright then." She opens up her book and begins reading. Before I'm able to put up the last item, the doorbell rings.
Opening the door, I'm greeted by a tall girl with ginger hair.
Piper Pryde.
"What are you doing here Piper." I whisper under my breath. I close the door inward, so Irene doesn't see her.
"I told you. . .24 hours. 24 hours to give yourself over or someone dies." Crap, for a split second I thought I was living in a normal universe, now I'm back to reality. Currently there's a killer at my door.
"Who's this Quinn?" I hear Irene say behind me. Her pink lipstick reflects off the light coming in from the door.
"Just. . .a friend from school, that's all." I assure her, hoping she would go sit down and read her book. Maybe we can talk about it later.
"Don't be so frank, Quinneth. I'm Piper, were best friends." She gives Irene's hand a good shake.
"Nice to meet you Piper, is that a Russian accent I hear." She laughs.
"Yes, I was born in Vladivostok."
"Mne tam nravitsya (I love it there)." She responds to Piper. A surprised look paints her face.
"Khoroshiy Russkiy (Good Russian)." replies Piper. She seems amused by Irene. I didn't know Irene could speak a second language, especially Russian. Hopefully she won't do anything irrational.
"Spasibo (thanks). Let me leave you alone to talk or whatever I'll be back in the living room." She waves to us and walks back to the couch.
"Awe, I really like her." She pouts. "Sucks that I have to kill her." My eyes widen. "How SHOULD I kill her?" She says thinking to herself. "Break her neck, gut her like a fish? Since her blood will be on your hands, I'll let you pick." She's so sick.
"Leave her alone. I'll- I'll go with you ok? Just- meet me outside." I cave in. She can be really scary sometimes, who am I kidding, all the time.
"No, I'll stay out here just to make sure you don't run. I don't like runners."
Leaving from the door I walk into the entrance way of the living room. I look to see Irene intently reading her book. "Hey, I'm going out with Piper. Will you ok here alone?"
"Oh fine. Have fun."
"I hope." I say mumbling to myself.
"Come on." I follow behind Piper quietly.
