Is it wrong not to be pro-life?
I've been going down a rabbit hole on Quotev, seeing who is for Trump and isn't. I noticed that many women/girls on here who support Trump happen to be very Christian and say that because of that, they are pro-life and so against abortion.
I'm a Catholic and yet I'm for abortion.
If you have a problem with that, my only response is this. Let's be real here. If you were raped by a man you hated, and you were pro-life, would you really want to keep the baby? No. And if you think that you will, then that just proves you're not in that situation. Many girls wouldn't.
Let's just pretend that you chose to keep the baby. The hatred for the baby's father would resurface, wouldn't it? You would find yourself from time to time hating the child, before slowly the hatred grows to being present all the time, and you slowly but surely become slightly abusive towards your child. Then abusive. Then very abusive.
I am not condemning your beliefs, but I admit that I am confused that women would be against abortion.
It's a legal right. It's something that women have fought for throughout the 20th century. If it was suddenly revoked, I bet that many women would suddenly realise how lucky they were to have had the chance to abort. How lucky they were to have a choice.
8505 reported rapes happened in Sierra Leone in 2019. Out of a population of 7.5 million people.
Let's assume that half of them ended up getting pregnant. Sierra Leone is a low income country that strictly prohibits abortion. All those women had to carry their pregnancy to term not because they were pro-life but because they had no choice. They had to carry the baby. Whether they kept it afterwards is something entirely different, but anyway.
And back when abortion was illegal in most countries, to all the pro-lifers out there, do you think most of the women who had babies from rape wanted to keep them? No. After the pregnancy happened, the most common case was that they left the child at an orphanage. This still happens today in less privileged countries or families.
Do you think that those women would have asked for an abortion if they could? I do.
To a degree, I understand that a lot of men are against abortion. They think it's against life, like all pro-lifers do, but it's not their problem. They're not the ones who will carry the baby, will they?
I just find it weird that women are against abortion, considering it's probably one of the greatest rights given to us in the history of the gender.
A lot of Christians say that they are against abortion because of their religion. But why?
God is an almighty being, true. But he would want all of His children to be happy, wouldn't he? And would one be happy if they were forced to carry an unwanted child? No. When the child would either be abandoned or killed, do you think God would be happy? No. I feel like God would be for abortion if the baby was conceived under extreme circumstances like rapes. It would protect the woman from further mental harm, wouldn't it?
Women who choose to abort not because of rape is another story. That is completely up to them and what they want for themselves, though in this case I will say that the man should have just used a contraceptive method, but accidents happen sometimes.
Anyway, all I'm saying is that we need to consider aspects of different points of view. Personally, I have looked at the pro-life mentality and understand concerns that usually are included in that mentality. That God wouldn't want it. That it's wrong. I understand the qualms, and I know that abortion is a matter that is very controversial and sometimes considered morally grey. Does the baby have a say? No. That causes a whole other discussion too. Shouldn't the man have a say? You have a point.
My opinion is this. The baby is in its early stages of development. It does not have a functioning brain when a woman can abort. Therefore, in my opinion, if it is not functional yet, it cannot have a say. Though I understand where you're coming from if you think the baby should have a say.
If the baby was conceived from a rape, than the man should definitely not have a say. Rapists are crazy and should be locked in jail. They cannot have a rightful say. If it isn't conceived from rape, than probably talk to the man before going through the procedure.
Ultimately, the woman is the one carrying the baby. It should be, and is, her decision if she wants the baby or not, at the end of the day. We are strong and powerful, and we should be allowed to decide what we want with our lives without others butting in.
