Oh my GYATT.
Okay, I love being on vacation because, well, I don't have to do anything. Except I do. You see, because my dad is French Conservative Parent of the Year, he adores making me do Maths on holidays. Except I hate maths.
It's not that I'm bad at it, but words have always made more sense than numbers, you know?
And he makes me play the piano. I love piano, don't get me wrong, but I'm so tired of doing it. Piano is such a basic instrument, and anyway, I want to learn the electric guitar. Nirvana and One Direction influence.
I'm also grief-listening to any Liam song I find, even most songs from LP1 that I didn't even like. Don't get me wrong, Strip That Down is a bop, but songs like Familiar or Bedroom Floor, I didn't like so much.
That's what losing an idol can do to you.
Anyway. I'm listening to Niall on repeat because he's literally becoming my top artist (why wasn't he before?). It's crazy that I used to adore Harry and hate One Direction, and now I don't really listen to Harry but adore One Direction. Harry Styles is awesome, and I love him, but lately I'm less into normal pop and more into country pop or pop rock. One Direction is just my heart.
I don't really like any boy bands apart from 1D. Boyz II Men is passable (Motown Philly is good), Backstreet Boys have some okay songs (I Want It That Way, Backstreet's Back), *NSYNC has Bye Bye Bye, but they're not great bands. Most of them don't even have a successful solo career (if you don't count Justin Timberlake from *NSYNC).
But nearly everyone from 1D has had a successful solo career (apart from Liam, I guess, but even him). They all have very large and strong fan bases who adore their music. They still talk about each other from time to time, but they made it clear that they moved on.
They're just better, honestly.
Don't cancel me for what I'm about to say, but I think my grandkids will still know who One Direction are. It's just going to become a group like Nirvana: one that people know by name and might even remember a few songs. Taylor Swift is definitely going to be remembered, and I think 1D will too.
They symbolize an era of crazy fangirls and autographs and down-to-earth idols that cannot come back and will not come back. The world won't know a boy band that is as idolized as 1D (and no, BTS does not count)/
If that's an unpopular opinion, go cancel me for it. But it's my opinion.
Signing out,
Alex <3
