I woke up with a really sore throat, and it didn't get better.
Of course, I sucked it up and pretended to be okay, sucking some pills that my mom gave me that should have eased the pain but didn't. By the end of school, though, I was in a great deal of pain.
Every time I swallow it hurts so bad, and I have one of the worst headaches ever.
My symptoms were so pronounced that my parents, who are usually anti-doctors, took me to see one.
He said it was a viral infection, which is relatively common, but my throat was inflamed and I need to take pills and prescribed lozenges to ease the pain and actually target the inflammation. At least it's not that bad, but it did dampen my mood over the course of the day.
Otherwise, school was pretty mid. I had History first, and we're learning about the Vietnam War, so that's pretty cool. Maths was boring as heck. English was pretty mid. Drama was fun, but we were missing a lot of my classmates so we couldn't do anything. Biology was meh because my teacher made my class do line graphs and I really hate graphs overall, especially line graphs, so I'll leave you to imagine my smile drop when I heard the plan for the lesson.
At least I didn't have a crazy rehearsal schedule like I have tomorrow, but between my sore throat and my extra English, both were a big pain in the ass. Don't get me wrong, I love writing and I love English, but I'm really busy and Cambridge IGCSE English Literature is a hard course, not to mention that I'm taking it in Year 9 when really I should be taking it in Year 10. And I skipped a grade, so technically I should be in Year 8, but I was too smart for that. Behold, the perks of having HIP, short for High Intellectual Potential.
Before one of you comes at me and declares that there's no such thing as HIP, let me stop you, because I have an official diagnosis of HIP. It's not autism because HIP just means you're pretty gifted at schoolwork naturally compared to other people. A lot of people with HIP also have a real talent with words, compared to people with HFA (High Functioning Autism, the closest form of autism to HIP) who have a talent with numbers instead.
All it means is that I have a high IQ for my age and I understand way quicker than most people. Not something that is going to impede my life, right? Well, it does.
For one, I particularly hate people who are slow. Whether they're slow walkers or they're academically slow, it takes a whole lot of my patience to be calm in front of those people. If you're one of them, I'm sorry, but because I understand quickly, it often annoys me that I have to wait thirty minutes for the rest of the class to catch up. Therefore, I don't have a nice experience with finishing early, because although I can do anything I want afterwards, I still have to waste half of the lesson killing time waiting for my classmates to finish their work.
What also annoys me is people who say they're dyslexic when all they are is just lazy. Some people are actually dyslexic, but most people who say they're dyslexic are actually either really lazy or just hate reading so much that they want an excuse to get out of it. I know a person who is really dyslexic in the fact that letters jumbled up in her brain and she can't read. I know at least fifteen other people who say they're dyslexic when they can read and write perfectly well when they're threatened to be put into detention.
Like, come on. I'm all for neurodivergence, but what's the point of it when a lot of lazy-ass people are using a neurodivergent condition as an excuse to get out of schoolwork?
If you're one of those people who do this, because I know that you know who you are, stop. It's taking the credibility out of people who are really dyslexic, and that's not something that should be happening. We're supposed to be moving forward, but because of all the people who lie about having dyslexia, many people are now believing that it doesn't really exist when it does.
Be honest and stop lying about having a condition when you don't, please.
Signing out,
Alex <3
