A few days later, Rena was trotting through a wooded area. She had gotten a lead on a possible hideout for a group of villains that Sy was worried might attract the attention of a certain deranged guardian. So, here was Rena making her way through the wilderness. She almost felt like she was back home making her way through her woods to the lake. Her thoughts drifted back, back to the lake and to the boy she missed. She quickly shrugs if off, telling herself to get it together. He was gone and he wasn't coming back. Not for her, not like he said he would.
"Mystic, you there?"
Rena was snapped out of her thoughts when Sy popped in her earpiece.
"Yeah, I'm here whats up?"
"I think I'm picking up a faint signal of a guardian. I'm sending it to your phone. With how fast it's moving it's likely in a vehicle but it's quickly approaching your location. Where are you by the way?"
"Oh, I'm following a lead of some activity up here in these woods. Apparently, there is a mansion in these woods that a lot of shady people have been going to. Something about a new liberation army? I'm not sure of the details but I thought it might be worth checking out. It might be connected to the League of Villians."
"Interesting. That could be a possibility. Good work. Just be careful."
"I will. I wasn't exactly planning on marching in the front doors. Now where's the signal coming from?"
"You should be receiving it on your phone now."
*Ding*
"Yup, there it is, oh wow you weren't kidding. They are close."
Rena crouched down behind some bushes and watched as a black SUV drove up to the mansion. What Rena didn't notice was someone was watching her, from the shadows a man slowly started approaching her.
~ POV change ~
A man with blonde hair, gold eyes, and crimson wings was soring through the air. He was going somewhere he really didn't want to be, but he had to go. It was his mission after all. A mission that was taking a lot out of him. He was playing both sides and both sides were using him for his status, the number 2 hero: Hawks.
He was almost back to the mansion that the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Front were using as a secret base. He suddenly noticed something strange in the woods below him. He slowed down and was hovering in the air just out of range to be detected. He sent a feather down to investigate. He could pick up vibrations in his feathers and decode them into pieces of information.
It was a woman, and she appeared to be sneaking around gathering information on the LOV and PLF, but why? His curiosity grew so he moved in closer and moved his feather in to listen.
"Oh, I'm following a lead of some activity up here in these woods. Apparently, there is a mansion in these woods that a lot of shady people have been going to. Something about a new liberation army? I'm not sure of the details but I thought it might be worth checking out. It might be connected to the League of Villians."
*pause*
'She must be talking to someone on the phone, I see an earpiece in her ear. I can't make out what the person on the other end is saying though.' Hawk thought to himself.
"I will. I wasn't exactly planning on marching in the front doors. Now where's the signal coming from?"
*pause*
*Ding*
"Yup, there it is, oh wow you weren't kidding. They are close."
Hawks watched as the woman crouched down behind a bush, seemingly trying to get a better look at the SUV that was pulling up to the mansion.
'Who is this person? She was speaking English, maybe an American? But what would an American be doing spying on the League?' Hawks thought as he lowered himself to the ground and slowly started to approach the mysterious woman.
~POV Change~
Rena was watching intently at the SUV that pulled up, hoping it would give some clue as to where the guardian was, or maybe the guardian was actually in the vehicle. She watched as everyone seemed to have exited the vehicle. Damn no guardian, but then what's giving of the signal?
Just as she asked herself that question, a man holding a briefcase walked up to someone who had walked out of the mansion. He was a rather short man wearing a lab coat and goggles on top of his head. He had turquoise eyes and untamed blondish-grey hair, and he had an unamused look on his face.
He walked up to the SUV and the man holding the briefcase. He signaled him to open it and when he did the signal on Rena's phone got stronger.
"Mystic, what's happening? The signal got stronger suddenly. Wait let me look at the live feed, you're wearing your contacts right?" Sy questioned.
"Yes, I have the contacts in. That car that pulled up, someone got out with something. They are showing some scientist-looking dude a briefcase. It looks like it has syringes in it. They appear to be glowing?" Rena replied.
"Glowing? WAIT! That could be the guardian's essence!" Sy exclaimed.
"So then the villains do have the guardian? But then he's being kept somewhere else if they are only bringing syringes of his essence. What would they be doing with it anyway?" Rena was thinking out loud when suddenly she felt a presence behind her.
She quickly turned around but was blinded by the sun. She could only make out the shadow of a man with what seemed to be wings on his back.
"Crap, Sy I think I've been caught," Rena whispered.
"Just remember your story. I'll be here in your ear if you need help." Sy said back.
"What do you think you're doing?" The man said as Rena struggled to see who he was. Her eyes began to adjust and she was finally able to see who was standing over her.
"Oh um well I was sightseeing and seem to have gotten lost." Rena awkwardly chuckled as she nervously scratched the back of her neck.
The man looked down at her with his piercing golden eyes, surprised she was suddenly speaking Japanese. "You know, most people would believe that, but I don't buy it." He said with a serious tone and an even more serious expression on his face.
"Mystic, don't panic. This might be a good thing. Do you recognize who that is?" Sy whispered.
"No, not exactly. I'm trying not to panic but he looks... really strong." She whispered back.
"You can stop whispering. I know you're talking to someone through an earpiece. Now can you tell me what you are doing in these woods?" He replied with annoyance.
Rena gulped. "Mystic. That's Hawks. The number 2 hero in Japan. He's the one Lily told us to get in touch with." Suddenly Rena's eyes went wide and she stood up, looking straight at Hawks.
"Looking for you actually," she said with a slight smirk.
His serious face dropped slightly, a little shocked at her reply. "Looking for me? Why would you–" but he stopped his sentence short as his wings started to twitch and he whipped his head around.
Rena was a little confused by his sudden reaction and was about to say something when he held up his hand and turned to face behind him, spreading his wings to block Rena from sight. Suddenly she heard someone else's voice.
"Hawks. What are you doing out here? Shouldn't you be meeting Twice? He's been looking for you. Didn't realize you'd be ditching him for some girl." the man growled leaning to the side to peek behind Hawks's wings.
"Yeah, Yeah. I was on my way back but came across a lost tourist. Tell Twice I'll have to catch him later. I'm going to help her find her way back to the city." Hawk said as he lowered his wings. No point in trying to hide her if he's already seen her.
Now Rena could get a good look at the man who had interrupted them, and she wished she hadn't. He was tall with black hair and teal eyes. He had what appeared to be staples all over his face and body, holding together two different types of skin. It looked like he had been burned. He wore an evil grin on his face and there was a darkness behind those beautifully colored eyes. Just what happened to this guy?
"Mystic, be careful. That guy... He's in that villain group. The League of Villains. He's the one they call Dabi. I couldn't find any information on his background. Tread carefully." Sy said in Rena's ear making her shiver.
This... could get ugly.
