Odysseus was frozen. Was it from fear? Or was it from shock? He stared back at Death, his eyes dulling from being inferior to the sheer power of the guardian before him. But this couldn’t be the end. He worked so hard to gain all the power he could. He wasn’t as weak as he was before. Why was he cowering before this trash?
He looked down to the ground before he began to chuckle, it grew louder as it turned into a laugh, reaching its peak at a cackling howl. He raised his head, looking to the sky as he rose back to his maniac level.
“Oh-ho-ho. You know..” he turned his gaze from the sky down to Death. “I’m not scared. You may be powerful, but I do not cower in the face of Death. Even with your emotions back and your full strength at its peak. I can still win.
This human? He has no idea. He just happened to be there when I entered that world. He didn’t even see me coming. I took control. He’s deep inside his mind, lost in limbo. He’ll never see the light of day. Even if he came too… He wouldn’t be able to live with himself once he remembers what I did using his body.” Odysseus began to cackle again.
“You do know the effects of not following the rules of bonding don’t you?” Death asked.
“The rules of bonding? I’m changing the rules. I took the essence of life, I have the power to change it.” he snarled.
“You don’t. Not even Aoibhe had the power to change the rules of bonding. If you don’t share the host properly, the life span of the guardian will be diminished. You are running on borrowed time, Odysseus.” Death glared, unwavering by the bluff.
“Borrowed time you say? Well then.. “ he grinned “I better hurry up. ”
Odysseus then let out a blast that surprised Death, knocking him back, distracting him for a moment. He used the distraction to jump to Rena, knocking Aether and Alkwan away. He lifted her up by the throat, her feet were dangling beneath her.
“Seems like I need to take care of it myself. If you refuse to break, I’ll just break you. Any last words before you die?” Odysseus snarled through his teeth.
Everyone was still paralyzed from Death’s overwhelming power. Hawks was trying desperately to move, to reach Rena. Astas devil form was drawing him to Death, the opposite direction from Rena. Law couldn’t raise his hand to call out his room.
Behind them, Fairy Tail was fuming that they couldn’t move. Erza had equipped her Heaven’s Wheel armor and her swords but they wouldn’t budge. Natsu’s flames were getting hotter by the second. Lucy was hoping her celestial spirits would sense the danger and come on their own.
The heroes in training were reeling at seeing their teacher helplessly dangling in the air. Midoriya was trying to use 100% of his power. Bakugos hands were sparking. Todoroki had both ice and flames working simultaneously.
The black bulls were trying to push post their limits and break free. All were ready with their grimoires open.
The Straw Hat pirates were emitting their own display of power through their haki but it wasn’t enough. Luffy had managed to take a step forward but couldn’t get any further. Zoro had all three swords unsheathed. Sanji’s foot was flaming.
Death has finally recovered and turned towards Odysseus, he was about to move when Odysseus released his own barrier, his power overflowing, countering Death’s power. Shadows of red and black flowing from him.
Odysseus slowly turned his head towards Death. “DON’T. MOVE.” Then he turned back to Rena. “I’m sure you can see it, Death. Who is going to die next? Whose soul you need to collect. So Rena… Your last words?”
“Just do it. Kill me. I don’t have anyone left. They’re all gone. Even my future. I don’t have the will to live–” Rena cried softly. She was ready to let it all go.
“RENA NO!” Hawks screamed, tears forming in the corner of his eyes. “Don’t! You can’t say that.. You can’t–”
“Who says that you don’t have anyone left?” a woman’s voice came from below.
“I really have to apologize, Rena. It wasn’t supposed to go this way. I can’t even begin to atone for the pain you have just suffered. Please, please forgive me” the voice continued.
Rena’s eyes went wide. “Th-That voice..” she began to cry harder. “This isn’t fair. Why now? This is too cruel.” she thought it was just in her head, taunting her one last time.
“Ugh this is taking too long. Say goodbye Rena. It’s time to–”
“ODYSSEUS!” the voice boomed.
“What?” he sneered, turning his head towards the voice, his eyes widened in shock. He dropped Rena as he stared at the source of the voice.
“HOW!? That’s impossible. Unless.. You did something, didn’t you, Death?” He grimaced.
“Actually, this wasn’t my doing. Well, he does have Death in his name, and on his hands, but that’s besides the point.” Death remarked.
Odysseus turned to the man in question. “Of course. The Surgeon of Death - Trafalgar D. Water Law. What are you? His little prodigy or something?”
Law just smirked. “No. I got that name because of my abilities as a doctor, combined with my devil fruit, and my sadistic tendencies of torture and experimentation with my victims. Though I suppose I did send quite a few victims Death-ya’s way over the years.”
Odysseus just gritted his teeth. “So you’re a big bad Pirate Captain, with sadistic tendencies yet you did this? Why?”
“Let’s just say, Versa-ya helped me learn a very valuable ability using my devil fruit and Rena-ya also paid me back well over what was due for saving her life. So I figured saving a life for her wouldn’t hurt. I know, it’s really unlike me, being a Pirate and all but I guess you can say I had a change of heart.” Law smirked, rising to his feet despite the overwhelming powers clashing.
“Room. Shambles.” Law smirked as he put the woman back together. She rose and stood next to him.
“How did you even accomplish this?” Odysseus asked.
“Easy. I just put up a small room around her neck and at the right moment I used ‘amputate’. You were too busy monologuing to hear it.” Law explained.
“Un-fucking-believable. Rena fell into your world by chance. That dumbass Ryker just picked a random world with the right time dilation to drop her dying body in. How did she manage to find someone like you. Your abilities are just too convenient. Just who the fuck are you?”
“Like you said. I’m Trafalgar D. Water Law. The Surgeon of Death. Captain of the Heart Pirates. Ex-Warlord of the Sea. It has not been a pleasure.” Law grinned his signature sadistic smile.
“This can’t be happening.” Odysseus groaned.
Rena had been mindlessly staring at the ground. She was suddenly lifted up by red feathers, Hawks had managed to maneuver his small feathers towards Rena. He couldn’t move himself but his feathers were able to move freely. He lifted Rena up and pushed her head to the side. She let her body be moved against her will but then her eyes caught something. She gained control over her body again. Her face formed back as she noticed the woman next to Law.
“S-S-Sy? Is.. Is it really…. But you.. He…your head…” The tears burst from her eyes. Her elemental form dissolved and she was back in her normal clothes. She shakely stood up, reaching her hand out. “Please tell me this isn’t a dream.”
Sy looked at Rena and smiled, “Hey… mom.”
