After Law walked out with Rena, an awkward silence settled over the room.
“Is she going to be OK?” the blonde fairy, Lucy, asked.
The scarlet-haired woman, Erza, placed a comforting hand on her friend’s shoulder. “She’ll be alright, Lucy. She’s a strong woman.”
“Toraro is one of the best doctors in our world. He saved my life a while ago, so Rena is in good hands,” Luffy assured.
“No need to worry, I can cheer you lovely ladies up~ may I ask you beauties for your names?” Sanji swooned.
“Oh great. They have a flirt too,” Gray whispered, rolling his eyes.
“Um… I’m Lucy,” the blonde said.
“Erza,” the scarlet woman added.
“Lucy-san~ Erza-san~ Beautiful names for beautiful ladies~ you can call me Sanji,” the blonde cook said, taking their hands.
Nami came up from behind and hit Sanji on the head. “Quit being such a flirt, Sanji.”
“I’m sorry, my Nami-swan, they are just such beautiful ladies~” Sanji replied.
Lucy giggled. “He reminds me of Loki a little bit.”
Just then, Wendy returned from the infirmary with a shocked look on her face. That guy is scary, she thought to herself after seeing Law use his abilities to remove the poison from Rena. She was glad the strange man was able to remove the poison, but she had never seen an ability like that. After he put Rena back together, Wendy used her healing magic to completely heal the stab wound, which left the Surgeon of Death himself in awe.
“Wendy, you’re back. How is Mys—are you okay, Wendy?” Erza asked with concern, noticing Wendy’s shocked expression.
“Oh no. Did Toraro use his abilities? I have to say I was quite shocked when I saw them the first time too,” the little reindeer, Chopper, spoke up. All the Fairy Tail members turned to Chopper with surprised expressions.
“IS THAT A TALKING REINDEER?!” Natsu said excitedly.
Gray scowled. “Natsu, you have a talking cat, why are you surprised?”
“I’ve never seen a talking reindeer before! What kind of magic is that?” Natsu asked.
“Oh, it’s not magic. I ate a devil fruit and it gave me the ability to walk and talk like a human. Oh, my name is Chopper, by the way, and I’m our crew’s doctor.”
“A reindeer doctor?! Your world sounds so cool. I want to go!” Natsu said with fire in his eyes.
Luffy started laughing. “You think that’s cool? Watch this!” Luffy stretched his arm across the room, then brought it back, but when he did, something—or someone—came with him.
Everyone had been a little distracted; they didn’t notice another group of interesting individuals step through a portal.
When Luffy retracted his hand, he had accidentally grabbed hold of a gray-haired boy with a black bandanna on his head. “Whoa!” the boy said as he was pulled across the room.
“Whoops. Sorry about that!” Luffy chuckled as the boy got to his feet.
“That’s alright! What kind of magic was that?! It was so cool,” the boy said with stars in his eyes.
“It’s my devil fruit abilities. I ate the gum gum no mi fruit, so now I’m a rubber man!”
“So cool,” Natsu and the gray-haired boy said at the same time.
“My name is Luffy, and I’m going to be King of the Pirates!” Luffy said to introduce himself to the new group.
“My name is Asta, and I’m going to be the Wizard King! Oh, and we’re the Black Bulls!” Asta said, pointing back at his squad.
“Whoa, Wizard King. That sounds so cool!” This time Natsu and Luffy said it at the same time. “I’m Natsu Dragneel, and we’re from the Fairy Tail guild!” he said, pointing at his friends.
“And we’re the Straw Hat Pirates!” Luffy chimed in excitedly.
Rena gave a small smile. “Let me make a call really quick.”
Law looked at the woman with intense curiosity. What could she mean by ‘make a call’? What was her plan? He had just exposed himself to a stranger, speaking about a tragedy that had just befallen him and his crew. His crew was his new family. He had lost his parents and sister when he was only 10, then he lost his savior a few years later. He had gotten revenge for Corazón’s death and was finally moving on, only to lose his crew. He wasn’t sure what he should do or how he should feel. He broke out of his trance when he heard Rena speaking to someone on the phone.
“Yes… Yes… I’m fine… Yes, she’s okay too… We’re at the base. Say, I have a question for you. Do you have a moment to stop by?” Rena asked the mysterious voice on the phone, but before there was a reply, a black portal opened up and Death himself stepped through. “RENNNAAA. VEEEERR,” Bob exclaimed as he walked up to Rena, arms stretched out like he was going to hug her. Rena just held her hand up to stop him. She wasn’t really feeling like a hug from Death at the current moment.
Law’s face turned as white as a lab coat and his jaw dropped to the floor. There was no mistaking who had just entered the room. Anyone from any world, dimension, or universe would know that was Death himself. He remembered seeing him in Versa’s memories, but he didn’t think he’d be in the presence of the guardian himself, well, at least not yet. He knew he’d die one day since he was a pirate and all. Law had accepted death at an early age. He wasn’t afraid of death by any means, but seeing the grim reaper in front of him was an experience he was not entirely ready for.
“Bob, calm down, please. I’ve had a long few days,” Rena muttered in annoyance. She didn’t mind Bob, but for someone who had no emotions, he always seemed so full of energy and was a bit much for her to handle most of the time.
“Right. Glad to see you’re okay, Rena. We were all really worried about you,” Bob said.
“Yeah. Anyway, Law, meet Death, or as he likes to be called, Bob,” Rena said towards Law, who had still not recovered from the shock.
“Ah yes, Trafalgar D. Water Law, the Surgeon of Death. Nice to finally meet the legend,” Bob said, giving an awkward wave towards Law.
“Um. Yes. Likewise. Wait, you know who I am?” Law asked.
“Yeah, kid, I’m Death. I’ve been on the receiving end of your work. Kinda my job, ya know,” Bob replied.
“Right,” Law said, color finally returning to his face.
“So what was your question, Miss Rena?” Bob turned towards Rena, who had slid off the bed. She leaned against it, crossing her arms against her chest, an intense stare forming on her face.
“Can you tell us if Law’s crew… is still alive?”
Silence. The longest 30 seconds of silence to ever exist. Rena had just blurted out the question, and the anticipation was driving Law to the brink. He could have sworn his heart stopped entirely until he heard the loud thumping in his ears. It was so loud he almost didn’t hear Death’s reply.
Bob let out a long sigh. “Rena, I—” he was cut off.
“Don’t give me some bullshit about timelines and crap like that. The amount of worlds and people there are, I’m sure you can make this exception. This one time. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here and Versa would probably have been captured by O. So please. Just… can you please tell us?”
Bob was silent for a moment again before he sighed deeply. “Very well, but Rena, I’m only going to break this rule once. Are you sure you don’t want to ask me about Cla—”
“No. Don’t,” Rena spat. Of course she wanted to know, but at the same time, she was terrified of that answer. Right now, she just wanted to repay the doctor who had saved her life twice now. Whether it was out of the kindness in his heart or just his sadistic curiosity, he still deserved this much.
“Very well.” Bob turned towards Law, who straightened up, not sure if he was ready for the answer, but his curiosity had overtaken all of his senses.
“Trafalgar. Your crew…”
