“This world sure is interesting,” Rena whispered to herself, her voice barely audible. She turned her head slightly, addressing the small reindeer beside her. “So, Chopper, do you think I’d be able to walk around a little bit? I had a strange dream, and I think I’d like some fresh air if that’s alright.”
Chopper tilted his head, considering her request. “Well, Tra-guy said you needed to rest for a full day, but your wound looks like it’s healing rather fast. I think it’d be okay as long as you take it slow.”
Rena nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, moving cautiously. As she inched herself down to the floor, balancing carefully, a voice boomed through the door.
“Just where do you think you’re going?” Law’s stern voice filled the room, his frown deepening as he looked at her.
“Oh, Law. Um, actually, I was coming to look for you,” Rena stammered, caught off guard.
“You’re supposed to be resting. Tony-ya, I asked you to check on her, not give her permission to move around,” Law said, his grimace intensifying.
Chopper looked up, slightly defensive. “Her wound seems to be healing rather quickly. I figured it would be alright as long as she takes it slow.”
“Tch. I’ll determine that. Let me have a look,” Law said, stepping towards Rena and motioning for her to get back on the bed. She complied, and he carefully lifted the bandages to inspect her wound. After a moment, he replaced the bandages and stepped back.
“Fine,” Law said, slightly displeased. “You do seem to be healing faster than usual. You can walk around, but take it slow.”
Rena gave a slight smile and nodded. “Thank you.”
“Well, if you don’t need me anymore, I’m going to head to bed,” Chopper said, letting out a yawn before leaving the room.
Rena watched the little reindeer leave, then turned to Law. “Um… What time is it?”
“About half past midnight,” Law replied, turning to face her.
“How long have I been asleep?”
“About twelve hours.”
“Oh. That’s not as much as I thought.”
Law walked over to the desk, glancing down at the items scattered across it. He then sat down in the chair, turning his attention back to Rena. “You said you needed to talk to me?”
“Oh, right! While I was asleep, I had a dream—or maybe it was a memory. I think it’s about what happened before you found me, though none of it makes any sense to me.”
“Can you tell me what happened?” Law asked, his expression unreadable.
Rena took a deep breath and began recounting her dream. As she spoke, her eyes wandered to the items on the desk, stopping on one that looked similar to the weapon she had wielded in her dream. When she finished, she looked back at Law, who was silent, processing her words.
“I’m not sure what any of that means, but I guess it does confirm a few things,” Law finally said.
“Like what exactly?” Rena asked, curiosity piqued.
“Well, first, it confirms your name. He called you Rena? Must be a nickname for Serena. Second, we can confirm that one of these items is a weapon.” Law picked up the item she had mentioned, examining it closely before placing it back down. “Though we don’t know exactly how it works, it does give us a clue. And third, it tells us you were in a battle and were stabbed by this man. That must mean you have some enemies,” he said, a slight smirk forming on his lips.
“I’m not sure I want to be someone who has enemies. I also wasn’t aware that was a concern before,” Rena said, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
“It wasn’t, but it does make your story more interesting. It’s a shame you couldn’t hear what he was saying at the end, but I’m surprised you even remembered anything at all,” Law replied.
Rena looked down at her lap, feeling a mix of emotions. They had solved one mystery, but her dream had only led to more questions. Based on what she saw, she wasn’t sure she wanted to go back to that life. But then, where would she go? Could she stay here? These people were strangers… and pirates! Aren’t pirates dangerous? But they were helping her, and they all seemed so nice. Wait, she’s only met two men and two animals so far. Of the men, one seemed to have a heavy weight on his shoulders, and the other was just oddly excited. She shook her head. That doesn’t matter right now. She just needs to focus on healing and regaining her memories. She can decide what to do after all of that.
“…en-ya?.. Rena-ya!?” Law raised his voice slightly, breaking her out of her thoughts.
“Oh. I’m sorry. I got lost in thought. I’m just not sure what to make of everything. If all of my memories are like that one, I’m not sure I want to go back to that life. If I even can go back.”
“It’s fine. We can talk more about it later. We only have a small piece of the puzzle. For now, it’s almost 2 a.m. Go back to sleep. You need more rest. In the morning, you can leave the infirmary. Just remember to take it slow. I won’t stitch you back up again if your wound opens up.”
“Alright,” she replied softly, looking over at the desk covered in her few belongings.
Law stood up and walked towards the door but turned back to Rena. “Ah, and fair warning… You’ll likely meet the rest of the Straw Hat crew tomorrow, and let’s just say… they are pretty… obnoxious.” Law said with an extremely annoyed look on his face. “We’re only on their ship because it was the closest place we could take you to treat your wounds.”
“Where’s your ship?.. If you don’t mind me asking?”
Law’s face darkened, and he turned his back to Rena. “It’s… gone,” he said in a low voice Rena almost didn’t hear. Then the door closed behind him, leaving Rena alone… again.
Rena let out a sigh and slowly laid herself back down on the bed. Staring at the ceiling, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to go back to sleep, but before she knew it, her eyes were shut, and she was back in a deep slumber.
Law walked out of the infirmary and leaned against the door, feeling the cool metal against his back. He let out a deep sigh, the weight of the day’s events pressing down on him. After a moment, he pushed himself off the door and headed towards the deck of the ship, his footsteps echoing softly in the quiet night.
Rena’s dreams provided some clues but only more questions. This could be a good distraction for a while before he decides what to do next, he thought, his mind racing with possibilities. As he reached the deck, the salty sea breeze hit his face, bringing a sense of calm. He looked around, taking in the serene night sky dotted with stars.
He saw Bepo lying on his back with a snot bubble coming out of his nose, snoring softly. Law chuckled slightly at the sight of his first mate, the tension in his shoulders easing a bit. He walked over to Bepo, careful not to wake him, and plopped himself down next to the bear, leaning on him.
“Bepo, you always manage to find a way to relax, don’t you?” Law murmured, a small smile tugging at his lips. He looked up at the sky, the stars reflecting in his eyes. “I wish I could do the same.”
He closed his eyes, letting the gentle rocking of the ship lull him into a state of relaxation. The sound of the waves crashing against the hull was soothing, a constant reminder of the vast ocean surrounding them. Law’s thoughts drifted back to Rena and her mysterious past.
Rena was an enigma, a puzzle he felt compelled to solve. Her sudden appearance and the fragments of her memories intrigued him. She had literally fallen from the sky, and he wondered what the purple cloud was that she had fallen through. Was she from another world? Do those even exist? There was something about her that stirred a curiosity within him, something he hadn’t felt in a long time.
He wondered about the life she had led before they found her, the battles she had fought, and the enemies she had made. What kind of person was she? What had driven her to fight so fiercely? Law’s curiosity was piqued. He knew what it was like to be haunted by the past, to carry scars both visible and hidden.
Despite the questions swirling in his mind, he felt a strange sense of protectiveness towards her. She was vulnerable, yet there was a strength in her that he couldn’t ignore. He wanted to help her, to uncover the truth and ensure she was safe. But he also knew that the answers they sought might bring more danger.
He shifted slightly, finding a more comfortable position against Bepo’s warm fur. The bear stirred slightly but didn’t wake, his snores continuing uninterrupted. Law closed his eyes, allowing himself to drift off to sleep, the worries of the day fading away with each passing moment.
