“Mystic…” Odysseus snarled, his eyes narrowing with fury. “You’re supposed to be dead.”
“Well, I’m not,” Rena replied coolly, glancing over to Ryker. “Your right-hand man did a shit job.”
Odysseus turned towards Ryker, giving him a glare that could shatter bones. “You assured me she was dead.”
Ryker began to panic, his face paling. “She should have been! I stabbed her with the poisoned blade. It should have killed her within five minutes,” he stammered, sweat dripping down his forehead as he looked at Rena, who was smirking at him.
“It probably would have too, but I quite literally landed in the hands of a se—ehem—skilled doctor who graciously helped me out,” Rena said, her eyes flicking to Law.
Law smirked a little at the compliment, which did not go unnoticed by Odysseus.
Odysseus was growing more and more pissed, his fists clenching. “Whatever. So you didn’t die. Did Versa come to check on her little pet then? Where did she go? We tracked her here, but now her signal has vanished. So WHERE. IS. SHE?”
Wait… does he not realize we’re bonded?
I guess not. Maybe it’s thanks to the bracelet Sy gave us. He may never have put the connection together.
Rena suddenly burst into laughter, the sound echoing across the deck. “OMG,” she gasped, everyone staring at her in disbelief.
Odysseus snapped, “What is so goddamn funny?”
Rena’s laughter started to slow down, and she held her stomach from laughing so hard. “So… you mean to tell me… you’ve been fighting against me for how long… and you never realized?” she said between breaths.
“Realized what?” he sneered, his eyes narrowing further.
“Versa and I… we’re bonded, you dipshit,” she finally stopped laughing and stood up straight, slowly reaching for her weapon. “I’m her human host.”
Odysseus just stared at her in disbelief. “You’re fucking joking.”
“Why would I joke about that? Just think about it. How would I be in every world, stopping your little minion at every turn? I’m just a normal human. Nothing fucking special about me. So how do I have these powers, huh? Speaking of… Let me show you my strongest form, The Light Elementalist.”
Rena grabbed her weapon from the side holster in her belt. She pressed the button and threw it in the air. It hovered above her as it started to spin, releasing particles that changed her completely. From head to toe, her entire appearance transformed. Her hair turned blonde, pulled in to pigtails. She was dressed in a white dress trimmed in gold. Gloves covered her hands up to her elbows, and her weapon transformed into a long staff with glowing balls of light on each end.
Odysseus just stared at her, unimpressed. Meanwhile, the Straw Hats and even Law were mesmerized by the sudden revelations and the transformation they were witnessing.
After a moment of silence, the man on the right leaned in and whispered something into Odysseus’ ear. An evil grin grew on his face. “Oh really now? How interesting.” He started to chuckle softly, then it turned into a menacing cackle. “Hand me the file.”
The man pulled a file out of thin air and handed it to Odysseus. He grabbed it and began reading it out loud.
“Serena Amara Reyes. Born January 3rd xx94 in City, Missouri to the parents of Elizabeth Reyes and Liam Whitlock.”
Rena’s eyes went wide. “Where did yo—” she was ignored as he continued.
“Lived alone with your mother up to the age of five when your grandmother took you in due to your mother dying of cancer. Went to the Reeds school district. No friends. No family. Graduated with honors, oh look at you, Miss Smarty Pants. Still, everything looks pretty boring. You really are just a boring, bastard child. Oh wait, what’s this? Who’s… Clark?”
“Like I’d fucking tell you,” Rena spat, her eyes blazing with anger.
“Why? Afraid I’ll use him against you? Whatever.” He continued flipping the pages, then frowned. “Where’s the rest of it?”
“We couldn’t find any information after year 18,” the man said, his voice trembling.
“Then what was the fucking point of this?” Odysseus grumbled, tossing the file to the ground at Rena’s feet, the pages scattering across the deck.
“Whatever. Guess I’ll just kill all your little friends here and call it a day. I’ve got shit to do now that we know your true identity,” he smiled, his eyes gleaming with malice.
“Don’t. Touch. Them,” Rena sneered, her voice low and dangerous.
“Oh, I won’t touch them. But honestly, why do you even care? They are strangers to you and pirates from the looks of it. They probably aren’t even decent people, so why bother?”
“I don’t need to have a reason for not wanting you to hurt them. And for all you know, they could be very decent people. Just because they are pirates doesn’t make them evil. You’re the most evil individual I’ve met, and you’re not a pirate,” Rena retorted, her eyes filled with defiance.
Odysseus just scoffed. He raised his hand and let out a pulse that sent everyone flying.
At the same moment, Rena sent her weapon flying. As it passed everyone, it engulfed each of them in a sphere, protecting them from being seriously injured but not from all the damage his pulse wave caused. It sent a few of the pirates overboard and into the water. Luffy and Sanji were tossed off to the right and into the water, Zoro was tossed backwards into the wall. Law was tossed to the left into the water. Everyone else on the upper decks were slammed against the walls behind them.
He turned towards Rena. “I’ll deal with you later. I have more important business to take care of,” he said, glaring towards the man on his right, who started to sweat again. And with that, the trio stepped through the portal and disappeared.
Rena relaxed out of her fighting stance, and her weapon flew back into her hand. She sighed before realizing people had been flung overboard.
She heard Bepo cough, fighting to get his bearings back as he said, “Miss Rena! cough the captains can’t swim!” She shot her head to the left, tossed her rod so it spun around her, changing her into her water form, and dived into the sea. Swimming down, she grabbed the sinking doctor under his arms and started pulling him up. She looked towards the other side of the ship and raised a hand, sending out two bubbles to Luffy and Sanji. As soon as Sanji could breathe, he glanced up and realized the situation, grabbing Luffy and beginning to swim to the surface as well.
Once they were at the surface, she pushed down on the water, boosting herself up as she held Law. Bepo had run down to the main deck and grabbed Law from her. On the other side, Usopp and Zoro were helping Sanji and Luffy up onto the deck. Rena clicked the button on her weapon, and it retracted into its normal shape, her clothes returning to normal. The rest of the crew came down from the upper decks, and soon everyone was on the main deck, looking at Rena both in amazement and confusion. No one understood what had just happened. Law was the only one who had some idea, but even he had questions.
Rena looked around and noticed everyone staring at her. “Oh boy.”
Versa… Did you happen to explain to them the situation?
Not… exactly.
What do you mean ‘not exactly’?
I showed the doctor my memories, so he knows pretty much everything, but he said we should probably wait for you to wake up before telling everyone else.
Ah… Right. Cool cool.
“Soooo. Um. You all probably have a lot of questions,” Rena said shyly, scratching the back of her neck.
