I didn't know how long it had been, but I'd been staring at the shower wall for a while now.
It was hard to do your daily regimen when there were so many things on your mind.
It was exhausting.
He was probably in my room, looking around and just being... nosey.
That was his entire existence, it felt.
After sighing, I turned off the shower as the steam waved around the room, and I stepped out from the tub, going to the towel rack to dry myself off.
I did what I did every morning; pulling on clothes, doing my hair, putting on makeup, and then earrings.
But right as I slid on the back to the second one, the light above me suddenly flickered, and I shot my head up, brows creasing.
It buzzed slightly, the interior blinking and making my head spin.
Maybe the bulb was going out...?
But suddenly the other lights in the room started buzzing and spasming, flickering in and out, and I felt the room thicken with something I couldn't name.
My heart pounded hard against my chest when I spun around, the buzzing growing more and more deafening.
I couldn't think straight... Everything was spinning.
What was happening? What the hell?
I started painting, spinning around as the hairs on my neck raised.
They were all uneven; like one was blinking faster than the others.
It was so silent, but so loud.
I backed into a wall, breaths stilling when the madness continued to burn through me.
I was going insane.
It was so loud.
I was going crazy.
The silence was so loud.
Loud.
Loud.
Loud!
But a sudden knock echoed through the room, and I gasped, shooting up.
"Skye?" Sebastian said. "You good? You've been in there for thirty minutes."
Though I just blinked and looked around, finding everything back to normal.
My brows drew together, the leftover buzz of panic burning through me, but I searched the room, finding everything the same as it always had been.
What the hell was happening? Was I just going crazy?
I stared at my reflection in the mirror, finding a small trickle of blood sliding from my nose.
I blinked and wiped it away, finding no more coming.
That was weird...
Really weird.
"Skye?" Sebastian said.
"I'll be out in a minute!" I called to him, scrambling over to my sink and leaning down to rip a bit of toilet paper off the rack.
After I wiped the blood off myself, I reapplied my concealer and lip gloss, exiting the bathroom seconds later.
Sebastian was sitting at the foot of my bed, brows arched.
"What?" I said.
"Forty minutes," he replied, shaking his head. "You good?"
I watched him for a moment. "Fine. Totally fine."
His brows arched, and I could tell he didn't believe me.
"What?" I said innocently.
His eyes raked me, and he looked back up. "Nothing."
I just nodded, turning and heading to my desk to rearrange everything.
After a moment of seeing my notebooks and sketchbooks out of place, I turned over to him, glaring. "Were you going through my stuff last night?"
"Maybe." He smiled a little.
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head when I fixed them back into place. "You are just... exhausting."
"Really?" he said then. "Because all my friends think I'm cool."
"Your friends are suck-ups," I replied rudely.
"Perhaps," he replied, chuckling.
I glanced back over at him, suddenly feeling very uneasy.
"What?" he said then. "You look like you want to ask me something."
I did, though. I wanted to tell him everything that was happening to me; seeing my neighbor get shot, all the shadows lurking around, and what just happened in the bathroom.
I wondered if the bad guy was giving me drugs or something—like poisoning my food and water—and it was hurting my brain.
But at the same time... what if I was going insane?
And also... if it was all in my head, why did my nose bleed after everything that happened? Was that even a sign of schizophrenia?
Or was I just going insane?
"Skye," he urged, "why are you staring at me? What do you want to ask? Just say it."
No, if I told Sebastian, he'd either laugh at me and make fun of me, or if he was the culprit... put an end to me.
"Nothing," I replied, nodding despite the lie, "just... thinking."
"About?" he prompted.
I glanced down at him, deciding to be snotty. "None of your beeswax."
He chuckled then, shaking his head. "Whatever you say, kindergartener."
I just glanced back down at my desk, searching through the table for something to do other than just... talking to this psychopath here.
He suddenly sniffed from behind me, and I gazed up at the wall in confusion.
"Are you bleeding?" Sebastian said.
I turned, brows drawing together when I found his expression neutral. "What?"
"Are you bleeding?" he repeated, eyes searching me.
"Uh... why?" I said.
His eyes flickered up to mine. "I can smell it."
I stared for a moment, everything inside me chilling. "How would you smell it? You're not a dog."
He gave me an annoyed look. "Answer the question."
I searched him for a moment, feeling slightly numb. "Uhm... my nose was bleeding a couple minutes ago."
He blinked, then something odd flashed through his expression. "Really?"
I nodded, bones freezing when the expression vanished.
He parted his lips, narrowing his eyes as if he was studying me. "There's something you're not telling me, isn't there?"
I swallowed dry air. "No."
"You're lying," he commented.
"No."
"Then why are you twiddling your thumbs?" he said then, leaning back up.
I hid them behind my back as a response.
I turned and started pretending to fix my desk to avoid talking to him.
"Skye," he warned.
"Busy," I replied, "my desk is a mess."
"Are you hallucinating?" he said then.
I dropped everything and spun around, taking him in as my body chilled. "How did you know?!"
He just watched me. "So I'm right?"
"No, I never said that!" I replied. "What the hell is wrong with you? Are you poisoning me?"
He shook his head. "No poison can do what's happening to you, and I'm not the bad guy, okay? So you can stop being so suspicious of me."
"Then how do you know?" I demanded.
His eyes flickered up to mine. "I might not be the bad one, but I am not who you think I am. In fact, I'm much worse."
My brows drew together.
He just stood and walked to my bedroom door, and I watched as he left without another word.86Please respect copyright.PENANA5q6B8i5QXi
