I bolted, but he immediately came after me as I caught the door handle that led outside, but he just grabbed my arm and reeled me to face him.
I let out a cry of fear, shoving my leg up and cracking it against his arm, and he let go, catching his wrist.
I just tried to shoot past him to escape through the front, but he caught my arm again, reeling me to face him.
I screamed and shoved my dagger out from my pocket, but he just slammed his fist against my arm, and I instinctively let go.
As it clattered to the ground, I pried myself from his grip, and started for the front door, and I heard him come after me.
I just shoved open the front door, making my way out.
I was hurt... I was screaming and crying inside... but...
My only instinct was to escape.
My life was on the line, and that's all I cared about.
But a force slammed against me, and I screamed, collapsing on the ground in front of me.
The impact forced the air out from my lungs, and I gasped vision tinting with red.
Sebastian just got off me and shoved me on my back, trying to capture my arms.
Despite the dizziness casting over me, I screamed, fighting him.
He growled under his breath, struggling to capture my arms, but I kept pulling out of his grip and kicking him.
He straddled my legs so I couldn't kick, and I struggled from under him, catching a rock next to me and forced it up, aiming for his face—
But he just caught my arm and pinned it above me, and I screamed again, struggling as he tried to capture my other one.
"LET ME GO!" I screamed, fighting him.
He just growled under his breath, catching my arm and pinning it down, as well.
I struggled, rocking to one side, and then the next, and then I settled on my back, realizing that fighting would only make me lose all my energy, so I locked eyes with him.
"What did you see?" he demanded low. "What did you find?"
I glared, anger rising in my throat despite the pain swirling inside. "You want to KILL ME!"
His lashes lowered.
"All this time!" I screamed at him, though his eyes only darkened. "ALL this time you've been wanting to KILL me? ALL THIS TIME? Was I just a game to you? Was all this just 'oh, I'm going to play her and then break her, so great!' You're NO BETTER THAN NORTH!"
His eyes darkened. "Don't say that."
"WHAT?" I yelled at him. "I found out what you've been hiding! You can stop pretending you care! WHY HAVE YOU BEEN DOING ALL THIS? WHAT AM I EVEN TO YOU?"
He sighed, lowering his head. "Skye."
"Don't start with me," I hissed. "Don't you dare. I'm sick of all these games. Now you will tell me why you've been pretending! WHY did you tell me to go inside that house when you didn't want me to find out in the first place?!"
"I didn't know," he said then, gazing in my eyes, though his were dark; every speck of light vanished from those irises. "I forgot that was in there. I just didn't want you in there because that's where a lot of my prized possessions are hidden."
I glared. "Oh? So you were never going to tell me? You were never going to tell me that this all was a lie?"
"It wasn't a lie," he stated boldly.
"I CALL BULL!" I yelled, jaw locking. "In your little diary, you said you were going to kill me! You said that you wanted revenge! Why, huh? WHY ME? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ME OUT OF EVERYONE? You said that you were going to KILL me THAT day!"
"But I didn't," he stated.
I chuckled coldly. "I know, it's better to ruin me from the inside out first, huh?"
His eyes darkened.
"You wanted to kill me all this time," I realized, eyes darkening. "All of this was just a scheme. Cuddling with me, snuggling with me, letting me burden on you. You pretended you cared." I laughed then. "You were good at it, too! I never suspected you!"
"Skye," he warned.
My glare sharpened. "Why? Why were you doing all this? Why did you want to kill me?"
"I don't," he hissed.
"You're such a liar!" I screamed. "I saw it! GIVE UP THE ACT ALREADY!"
"FINE!" he yelled back, eyes glowing a dangerous red. "Fine, you want to know? I'll tell you. Yes, I was planning on killing you. YES. Okay?"
"Why?" I demanded.
"I was angry," he told me, though his tone was leveled now. "I told you your mother forced us to fall because we refused to be archangels? That wasn't all. Your mother shoved our parents in front of everyone in the heavens. She humiliated them, took off their clothes in front of everyone, and then murdered them in cold blood."
"So you thought getting revenge on ME was a good idea?" I said. "That makes NO sense!"
"I didn't want revenge on you," he replied, voice cold. "I wanted to get revenge on your mother. She cares about no one—"
"But me..." I realized then, lips parting as I lost myself in a daze.
He sighed. "Precisely. We wanted to hurt her by killing you. We knew it would've crushed her. That's what we wanted. We wanted to take something from her because she took something from us."
"If I'm just a pawn," I said then, "why haven't you killed me yet?"
His eyes grew dark. "I couldn't do it."
I laughed. "Bull."
"I'm serious," he said, making me glance over at him. "That note I wrote was the day North and I planned to kill you. I snuck in your room, and you thought I was some dream savior. I just... I couldn't."
I scoffed.
"All those times," he continued, making me gaze up to find him lost in my eyes, "all those times... when there were knives, scissors, when you were along, I was going to do it! I was going to use those weapons! All I had to do was slice them in your heart! That's all I had to do!" He was silent for a moment. "That time at the arcade... when you had that vision of me catching scissors and stabbing you... I was going to do it, Skye. I was going to. But I couldn't bring myself to grab them, so I scared you into thinking it happened, so you'd get hysterical, but you didn't. You just... stared at me for a moment, and held it inside, pretending it didn't happen. You were already in shock, killing you'd be easier then, but... I couldn't. I couldn't do it."
I watched him suspiciously.
"You see?" he said, gazing down at me. "I never wanted to... I couldn't do it, Skye."
I closed my eyes tightly. "Why? Why couldn't you do it?"
When I parted my lashes, he was staring at me. "After a couple times..." he told me, voice soft, "after I realized why I couldn't do it. I stopped. All the rest was North."
"You didn't answer my question," I stated, eyes dulling in boredom.
He just shook his head. "You know the answer; I fell in love with you when I first set eyes on you."
My heart twinged, bringing tears to my eyes, but I blinked them away. "Why...?" I whispered. "Why...?"
"I don't..." he said, leaning down, "I can't tell you. I just... I was in love, and I couldn't do it."
"How do I know that this all isn't some worthless speech?" I asked him, anger still burning through me. "How do I know, huh? All this... all of this crap? What if you still want to kill me?"
"Skye," he said, eyes dulling in a slight irritation, "if I wanted to slit your throat a second ago, you'd be dead a second ago. If I wanted you dead a year ago, you'd be dead a year ago. If I wanted to watch you burn a month ago, I'd set your house on fire a month—"
"Okay! Okay!" I said, swallowing down fear at his honestly. "I get it."
"I don't kill people I care about, okay?" he told me, leaning down so his face was inches from mine. "And I care about you... the most."
"Not Claire?" I suggested, heart warming for some reason. "Not North?"
He kept his face inches away. "Claire and I are close, but not this close. And North is a psychopath; he'd only had it out from the beginning."
"So you're not working for him?" I said suspiciously.
"He doesn't want to kill you because of our parents," Sebastian explained, "he wants to kill you because you took his favorite toy away."
He gestured to himself.
I kept staring. "How do I know you're not lying?"
He watched me for a moment. "Do you think I'm lying?"
I averted my gaze, looking away.
I knew he knew the answer...
Which was, no.
"If I let go," he told me, making me glance up, "will you run?"
"What if I do?" I retorted.
"Then I'm not letting go," he stated honestly.
I glared, turning my head to the side as I struggled to breathe.
I was panicking... I knew that he was no longer harmful, but... to know he was keeping the secret from me? It was horrifying.
It was... scaring me.
That this was his plan.
My lungs were clamping, collapsing in on myself, and I closed my eyes tightly, tears burning me.
Sebastian released me, making me gaze up in alarm, but he just pulled me up and pulled me sideways onto his lap.
"What are you doing?" I questioned breathlessly.
"Rest your head on my shoulder," he told me, making tears glisten in my eyes, though he just guided me. "Close your eyes," he said, voice soft, "and just breathe."
Tears stung my eyes, and I blinked them away. "Why are you...?"
"Shhh..." he soothed, "just do it, okay?"
I listened, closing my eyes and drawing in a breath, feeling him doing it with me as I finally released, my anxiety forcing out, as well.
We did this together for a moment, and then after a couple minutes, I was calm, staring into the night lazily.
"See?" he said, making me glance up. "If I wanted to kill you, would I being doing this?"
I shook my head, but my lips were still thinned. "It's going to take me a while to trust you, though, Sebastian. So... I still love you but we need to take things slower." I was quiet for a moment. "This... scared me."
He sighed into my hair. "Alright. Whatever you want."
I still stared at his chest, lashes lowering as a numbness consumed me.51Please respect copyright.PENANAGmJw4Whx32
