"You can't run from me, Skye. Little do you know, the closer you are to him, the more danger you seek."
I shot awake at an instant, gasping softly as I searched my surroundings.
I was still in my bedroom; the curtains drawn as moonlight beamed over the ground like rays of sun, and Sebastian was still next to me, sound asleep and breathing softly.
I lightly touched his face, running my fingers along his soft skin, though he just stirred, parting his lashes.
"Skye...?" he whispered groggily. "You okay?"
I watched him for a moment, moving my hand down to touch the rune on his neck.
His lashes fluttered, but he still said, "What's wrong?"
I pulled away then, gazing down at him. "Nothing."
His lips parted and he rolled over, struggling to sit up. "Skye... I know you well enough to know when you lie. What's wrong?"
My eyes flickered down to his shorts, and I just sighed, gazing back up at him. "You remember the room on this floor that's off limits?"
He nodded, letting out a long yawn.
"Is it... North's room?" I asked him.
He parted his lashes then, and regarded me. "Yes."
"Can he get in there?" I asked Sebastian.
He shook his head. "No, but I don't let people go in there because there's a lot of dangerous stuff lying around." He watched me. "He can't get in this house, Skye. It's covered in runes."
I sighed and stared back down at the bed for a moment. "What kind of dangerous stuff?"
He gave me a look. "Angel."
I glanced up, shrugging. "Just curious."
He sighed, shaking his head. "Horrible, morbid plans sketched on paper—cursed knives and daggers—disgusting sheets covered in... I honestly don't know what it is, but just don't touch them."
I stuck my tongue out. "Was he a player?"
Sebastian glanced over at me. "No, he's a killer. Yes, he'd lure girls in his room, but he'd never go that far. He doesn't like going as far as kissing when he's planning to kill; it gives him too much of an emotional attachment, so when he's needy, he goes and seeks a hooker."
I closed my eyes tightly. "I did not need to know that."
Sebastian smiled. "You asked."
I just sighed and looked in the distance. "Did he ever love you? Did you ever love him?"
"I did love him once," Sebastian explained honestly, "I looked up to him, followed him, bowed to him, but... it only ended up in me getting hurt."
"How?" I whispered.
He chuckled darkly. "Oh, you don't want to know." He glanced over at me. "And as for him loving me? No, he doesn't. He might claim it's love because he doesn't understand it, but... all I am to him is a toy. He uses me to get what he wants." He smiled softly. "That's how it's always been."
"Are you mad at Lucifer for cursing the heavens?" I asked him.
He nodded. "Yes, but I do understand his reasons...." He was silent for a moment. "I have wished that my brother would be normal, but... now I know that I should stop wishing because they never come true. Not even in this world."
I saw the dark look in his eyes but attempted to lighten the mood. "What about your sister? You still have her."
He glanced over at me with a smile. "I guess, yes, but... I still with my twin loved me like I loved him."
I looked away for a moment. "Hey... I'm not sure if this is a triggering question or anything, but... did my mom force all of you to fall?"
Sebastian sighed. "Yes, she did. North was pissed about it, Claire was neutral."
"What about you?" I asked him.
His eyes darkened. "I was pissed."
"Why...?" I whispered. "Because it was painful?"
He sighed and nodded, though I sensed there was something other reason.
"Did you have parents?" I asked him then, and I saw his jaw lock. "A family?"
He hesitated, and I saw his eyes harden slightly. "Why don't we go to bed?"
"But, Sebastian, I—"
He glared at me, making me shrink back. "BED."
I stared at him for a moment, and he just sank back into the mattress, facing away from me.
Okay, I got it... very sensitive subject.
I slid off the bed as he remained in his position. "I'll give you some space."
I then walked out from the room, tears stinging my eyes as I closed the door behind me and stepped down the hall.
He gets so mad every time I bring the subject of his family up... It almost feels like he blamed me, but... he regrets it?
I just sighed and continued forward, making my way down the stairs and to the living room.
I could sleep here tonight; it wouldn't be much of a burden. In fact, these couches were kind of comfy.
But right as I caught a blanket from a basket, I heard a very stern, "Skye."
I turned, brows drawing together when I saw Sebastian at the opening of the living room.
He was in his T-shirt and the same pair of shorts, but his hair was tussled and tangled... and it looked kind of sexy.
"I'm sorry, I snapped," he said then, stepping in the room as I remained standing, surprised. "My parents were taken from me, and... it still hurts."
I just sat on the couch. "It's okay."
"No, it's not," he urged. "I hurt you."
I just shrugged, starting to lay down but he just shook his head.
"No," he said, eyes soft, "come back to bed."
"I told you I'd give you space, Sebastian," I said, snuggling with the couch. "So I'm giving you space, okay?"
I know I hurt you, though I don't understand why. I just... I feel like you're blaming me for some of these things.
"I don't blame you," he urged, and I blinked, gazing up in question. "It's just... a sensitive subject, okay? Just come back to bed."
I sighed and relaxed back into the couch. "I'm not really willing to go upstairs right now."
"Fine then," he said, and before I knew it, he scooped me up, making me yelp. "I'll carry you."
"Sebastian, you don't have to—"
"Shhh..." he whispered. "Shut your mouth. You're snuggling with me whether or not you like it."
I stared before my face cracked a smile. "You're a snuggle addict now, aren't you? My bad."
He just chuckled and got to my bedroom, opening the door before stepping in, and he kicked the door closed, lying me down on my mattress.
"Now go to sleep," he said, crawling under and gathering me in his arms.
I smiled and closed my eyes, holding him back.
I couldn't sleep at all that night, though, so at around five in the morning—while Sebastian was unconscious on the bed—I took a long shower and sat on the floor, staring up at the wall as the water rained down on me.
I just let the heat sink into my bones, making me close my eyes and tip my head back.
I didn't realize how cold I felt.
It felt nice... being warm.
So nice.
This bathroom was gorgeous, the floors and counters were pearl-white, the shower wall covered in silver tile with designed ingrained in each one, and the shower-head had the perfect setting, covering me in warmth without puncturing my skin.
I just sat back, letting the heat cover my shoulders and chest, and I parted my lashes, finally satisfied with the warmth.
I stood then, turning off the shower and stepping out, catching my towel and patted myself dry.
Afterwards, I pulled on tights, a school-girl skirt, and a vampire T-shirt with a hot guy on it.
I ended up scraping my hair back in a bun because I didn't want to deal with it right now, and I stepped out of the bathroom—
Only to stop.
Sebastian was sitting on the edge of my bed—back facing me—while he remained shirtless, currently shuffling open a freshly-cleaned one.
I stared at the large V-shaped scars on his back, wondering if he had wings or if he didn't. I also wondered what color they were... or maybe if they were feathery or like bat-wings.
The sunlight from the window danced among his skin, enhancing his sharp curves, muscles, and scars.
The runes covering his shoulders glistened in the lighting, making the illusion as if they were pure ink.
But Sebastian shuffled on his shirt, making me blink when he stood and covered his lower-form with the fabric.
He turned toward me then, smirking. "Enjoying the view?"
My cheeks burned with red, and I just stepped over to my dresser to catch my phone. "Hah. As if."
He just smiled, though I refused to look at him.
"What do you say?" Sebastian said, making me glance over. "Up for a little date today? Just you and me?"
"Not Neveah this time?" I asked him.
He shook his head, chuckling. "Nope. Just you and me. Chris is taking Neveah out, so she'll be fine."
I glanced down at my phone, checking the time. "Uhm. Sure."
He chuckled and caught my arm, and I yelped when he dragged me out the door.
*****
"So..." Sebastian said, tipping his head to the side curiously as I glanced at him from the side, "how are you doing lately?"
We sat at a French restaurant he took me; it was nice here... everything smelled like fresh bread and nuts.
I shrugged after taking a bite of the appetizer. "Nothing much."
He only set his cheek in his hand, watching me with a level of curiosity I never knew could've existed.
And the smile was still there.
Ugh... that smile was always unsettling.
"So," I said, leaning forward, "what's next?"
His eyes flickered up to mine; a mischievous smile spreading across his face. "You'll see."
I sighed and stood, shaking my head when my body heated with a smile. "I'm going to go take a breather," I told him, "it's hot in here."
He only watched me, and I turned and wove around some tables, ending up at the back door where I exited.
I exhaled a sigh, closing my eyes tightly as I just let myself breathe.
We'd been snuggling, yes, but every night... I could sense him wanting to get closer... and I couldn't let him.
I just couldn't.
I needed to know more about him.
Who was he? What happened to his parents?
Where is my place in this situation? Why did North want to kill me?
Sebastian did say that North thought of him as a toy... so when Sebastian started getting closer to me, maybe North thought of me as an obstacle; one that if he annihilated, Sebastian would be his.
I sighed and tipped my head back, closing my eyes as the wind shifted, blowing my hair over my face.
I just tucked it behind my ear, staring up at the night sky.
"Stupid girl," someone hissed.
I shot up, gasping as I threw my knife out of my pocket, clutching onto it tightly as I aimed the blade-less hilt in the direction of the voice.
But I saw a shadow standing under a lamp across the street from the alleyway, and I stilled as I saw those black eyes reflecting the light above him.
North tipped his head to the side, smirking. "Hello, Skye. It's been too long."73Please respect copyright.PENANATHyIn8Y1H0
