The moment I reached the first step, my arm was caught from behind, and suddenly I was thrown in the air.
I screamed, arms flailing.
But finally my back met a glass table, and it caved in under me, and finally I crashed to the ground, thousands of shards slicing through my skin, and I cried out, tipping my head back.
I was burning; I felt like I was on fire.
I was on fire.
When I attempted to sit up—feeling blood blooming under my shirt—North was already coming after me.
I caught a shard of glass—about to use it as a weapon—but he just slammed his leg into my arm, and I fell back again, landing among the shards.
I choked when they deepened into my skin.
North just collapsed onto me, laughing despite him setting his knees among the shards, and he leaned forward. "Such a spit-fire. So feisty."
I glared, breath shuttering as my white T-shirt grew redder. "I will never succumb to you."
He chuckled. "We'll see."
He leaned down, pressing his lips to my neck as he gently started suckling the skin.
I cringed, stomach jolting with disgust.
But I just drove my knee into his stomach, making him choke as he separated from me, and I shoved him to the side, rolling on top of him seconds later while my elbow lay inches from his throat.
He just laughed, making my breath shutter, but his eyes just flickered to mine. "You think that will stop me?"
He slammed against me, making me scream when I collapsed onto the ground next to him, though he just chuckled and stood.
I tried to catch a glass shard, but he just caught my ankles.
And he dragged me back by my legs, and I winced when glass sliced my cheeks open, though he just yelled and threw me sideways.
I screamed when I went flying, heart thudding against my chest...
And I collided with the chair he tied me in, every bit of force slamming me against the metal as it bent into my back.
I crashed with the ground, choking as all air cut from my lungs, and I slid along the floor, the cement scraping across my wounds.
I finally hit the wall and slowed to a stop, whimpering slightly as North chuckled darkly and limped toward me.
Every sense of pain coursed through me; burning, aching, wounds screaming, skin slicing itself open as I tried to breathe.
North just chuckled, continuing to limp toward me. "Are you going to give in yet?"
I stared blankly at him, blood sliding down my face and into my eyes, tinting my vision red.
Everything... red.
I couldn't die yet.
I couldn't.
He just laughed—gasping—and collapsed onto his knees in front of me. "Come here, little girl."
I grimaced when he reached me and fisted my hair in his hand, and he forced me up.
Though he just tugged a dagger out from his jeans, making me freeze as my breathing stilled.
North chuckled darkly, holding my head up by my hair as he gently slid the tip along the skin of my cheek.
I winced when he brushed it along the bottom of a wound, pulling back so he could see the blade better, and I parted my lashes, finding a single drop of blood settled on it.
He just licked it off, making my eyes widen as my stomach revolted again.
"Mmm..." he said, eyes locking on mine, "salty."
I drew back when he pressed the knife to my throat.
"Wanna taste mine?" he whispered, eyes glowing dangerously. "You already created the wound, so how could it hurt, huh?"
When he leaned forward, I shoved against him, though the knife tightened to my throat, making me still.
"Ah—ah," he said, smiling darkly, "don't mess this up for me, yeah?"
His hip brushed against my thigh, and I winced when a shard of glass deepened into my skin.
Wait.
A shard of glass...?
I could use that as...
My lashes parted then, and I slowly—unknowing to him—lowered my hand down to my thigh, feeling him slowly get closer.
But I just caught the shard, letting out a small whimper as the burn sliced through me.
"Are you scared?" he taunted, clearly hearing me whimper.
I closed my eyes tightly when he pressed his lips to mine.
I nearly choked as his blood burst through my tastebuds, and I had to resist screaming in agony when the blade dug into some wounds in my neck.
He pulled my hair tighter, and I cried out when he shoved me closer.
But I just clutched the shard tighter, breathing shallowly.
He continued, getting closer.
And I shoved away, screaming as I threw my arm forward and drove the shard into his shoulder.
He yelled out, releasing me and stumbling back.
I just forced my leg up and slammed it against his stomach, and he choked, falling onto his knees before me as I gasped.
I screamed, running forward and struck him across the face, and he collapsed down onto the ground, and I dropped onto him, straddling his hips as I continued screaming.
I drove the glass into his shoulder again, then his thigh, then his stomach.
I barely felt it slicing my fingers; I was in too much pain to care.
As I kept stabbing him, he only chuckled, making me stop and stare down at him in horror.
North just chuckled louder, and then he started laughing, then harder, and then maniacally.
Tears brimmed in my eyes when he tipped his head back, laughing harder.
I breathed shakily, watching him in horror.
"You can't kill me, Skye," he taunted, gasping as he smiled, teeth all white and red. "The angels might send me to hell, but I'd only come back! I'd only come back to kill you again, and again, and again. You can't rid of me."
I stared.
"I am a god!" he yelled, raising his hands in victory. "I am emotionless! I do not love! I do not hate!" He watched me. "I kill everything in my way, Skye. Everything! Do you think you're not an exception? You were merely a pawn; my goal was to kill you, shatter your mother, and then take over the heavens. Everyone would be under me! Everything! And my mother and father even helped a little. I was one of those children that were cursed by Lucifer; I was a daem. The heavens automatically banished daems—sent them to hell immediately—but my parents decided to protect me! Isn't that madness?"
I stared as he kept going, "I had no emotions, I was always trouble and starting fights with others, and they still protected me. You see, Skye," he told me, setting his head on the ground below me, "I can't love. It's not in my biology, don't you understand? My biology is to kill. KILL. TORTURE. BREAK. So when my parents protected me, the leader of the angel race found out they were hiding me because little Miss Claire had a big mouth at school. They reported me, humiliated my parents and killed them in front of everyone as punishment, and then they banished me and my siblings to Earth, not even bothering to send me to hell. Isn't that crazy?" He laughed. "I've always wanted to take over the heavens, and sending me to hell would've made it easier; all I had to do was tell Lucifer my plans and he'd support me, no doubt." He chuckled this time. "But killing my parents was the best plan in existence, so I convinced Sebastian that if he killed you, then he'd hurt the leader of the angels, and then Sebastian would be banished to hell over me, and then I'd take over the heavens, but NO, he had to fall in LOVE with you."
I glared. "You're a monster."
"I've heard that so many times, Sweetheart," he whispered quietly. "I'm worse, though. No one knows what happens in my head. I want to kill you, and I won't let that go."
I glared, setting the shard inches from his throat. "Then why did you kiss me?"
He chuckled darkly. "I want to know what he's having."
I drew back in disgust.
He only tipped his head to the side, chuckling. "You cannot get rid of me, Skye. I am a god."
I shoved the tip of the shard into his throat. "Wanna bet?"
He smiled despite blood blooming along the small wound. "Oh, I'd very much like to."
But a sudden noise came from my left, and I shot my head to the staircase, finding a figure carefully descending down the stairs.
Tears burned my eyes...
Sebastian.
I kept holding North at knife-point.
But... was he here to help North or me?
North just chuckled, whispering in a sing-song voice, "Distractiooooooon."
I quickly gazed down at him, but he already slammed against me, and I cried out, falling backward.
The moment I collided with the ground, North was already hovering over me.
He tipped his head to the side. "Too slow."
And he brought his foot up, making my breath shake.
"STOP," Sebastian screamed.
Both North and I glanced over at him in question.
Sebastian's eyes just glowed red. "Touch her and I'll kill you."
North just chuckled, stepping over to him menacingly, but Sebastian remained in place.
"I've already touched her," North said in a low voice, chuckling. "We shared a very passionate kiss."
"You're disgusting!" I yelled, struggling to stand, but he just glanced over at me; amused. "You're a monster!"
Sebastian glanced at me, pupils shrinking in fear before he looked back at North. "You hurt her. She's covered in wounds."
North chuckled dryly. "She covered me in wounds! I'm your brother! She's just... a girl."
Sebastian suddenly pulled a gun, making me squeak as I scrambled backwards, but he just aimed to his brother.
North only threw his hands up, backing away a little. "Whoa... going modern now?"
He only narrowed his eyes.
North chuckled. "I'm your brother, you don't have the heart to kill me."
Sebastian cocked the gun, making him still. "Wanna bet?"
North chuckled again, though this time nervously. "Y—you can't do it."
"You hurt her," Sebastian said, narrowing his eyes into a glare. "I told you not to touch her, and yet... you did."
North tipped his head to the side, sparing me a glance. "We kissed," he said then, making Sebastian's jaw lock. "Quite passionately, actually. She loved every second of it."
Sebastian shook his head, smiling now. "You liar. If she liked it, why do you have a bite wound on your lower lip? It should really be attended to," he taunted, "the human bite has more germs than the average dog."
North gave him a daring look, and I just slowly lowered to the ground and caught the dagger he dropped a bit ago.
It wasn't the angelic dagger; it was a normal one, but it was my best bet if he got out of Sebastian's range.
"She's feisty," North explained as I clutched the dagger tightly, and Sebastian's eyes flickered to me for a moment before he looked back to North. "You don't think I'm allowed to be feisty, too?" North said.
I slowly started advancing toward North, and I saw a large smile spread across Sebastian's face, clearly knowing what I was up to.
"I know she's feisty," he replied coolly, clearly stalling, "but she doesn't want you. No one wants you, North. She only loves me, she will never succumb to you, North. Never."
His glare sharpened, and I only continued advancing toward him. "I don't care if she wants me or not, she'd learn to want me."
Sebastian tipped his head to the side then, smirking now. "So that's your plan, is it? Taking her and making her yours? All that leading the angel race was a complete lie, wasn't it?"
"It was my original plan," North stated, glaring still, "but I saw what you saw. I want her."
"You want her body," Sebastian corrected, voice lowering to a growl as I continued forward, refusing to be fazed, "don't lie."
My heart was pounding, my throat constricting, my soul crushing.
He wanted to kill me, and now he wanted me?
The same as Sebastian.
His plan was to kill me... Sebastian wanted to kill me, and now he wanted me... Just like North.
But Sebastian never dared to hurt me.
I was close now, almost completely behind North now, and I held my breath.
"You'll never get her," Sebastian said to him, and he glanced over at me, nodding.
I screamed, jumping in the air and slicing the dagger into North's back.
He yelled out, back arching at the impact as blood splattered all over my face.
I jumped away then, backing off as North dropped to his knees, gasping as his mouth parted, blood slipping off his tongue and dripping off his chin.
Sebastian's eyes narrowed, and he kept the gun at him.
North just fell onto his hands, choking on his own blood as his breath shuttered.
"Nice... one..." he sputtered, glancing at me.
"Think you still can't die?" Sebastian wondered.
North just smiled and slipped a syringe out of his pocket, making Sebastian's eyes darken as North stared down at it blankly.
Was he about to inject himself? He was willing to kill himself?
But North just threw his head back, locking eyes with me.
I stilled, heart pounding at his dark stare.
He smiled then, face covered entirely in blood, and he started chuckling, then laughing.
Sebastian and I stared in concern as he continued laughing, locking eyes with me while his eyes grew red, hemorrhaging with blood consuming all the white.
"What?" Sebastian barked. "Why are you laughing?"
North calmed to chuckling, blood spitting from his mouth as I tightened my hold on the dagger.
"You can't rid of me," he cooed, still chuckling. "I cannot die. I am a god. You will be mine, Skye. You will."
I drew back as he continued watching me.
How could he breathe with his head back like that?
"You're going to die," I told him, "be honest with yourself."
He only smiled. "I won't die. And if I do, I'll only come back from the depths of hell to take you again. And remember what I said?" His eyes darkened, the red mixing with the black, and he looked almost demonic. "All I have to do is tell Lucifer that my plan is to take down the angel race; he'd happily send me up."
"You're deranged!" Sebastian hissed. "You have NO IDEA what Lucifer's goal is!"
North only watched me, and I almost screamed at him to look away because he seemed lost with a mix of psychosis...
He was going to die.
He was.
He just chuckled again, mouth spitting out blood. "If I can't have you, Skye Frost," his eyes darkened, "no one can."
And he vanished from existence, making me shoot up and look around for him, but he was completely gone.
I gasped under my breath, searching for him.
What?
Where did he go? Where the hell—
But when I gazed up at Sebastian, he looked confused as well, glancing around nervously.
He suddenly looked up at me then, and his eyes widened in horror. "SKYE!" He screamed, launching forward. "SKYE, WATCH OUT!"
Before I could react, a hand launched out from behind me, and I screamed, fighting their grip, but North just shoved me against his chest, chuckling.
But something sharp sank into my neck, and I cried out, head throwing back.
Why did it feel so... small, though? It wasn't a... dagger.
But something cold pressed into my bloodstream after a moment, and I stilled when the small sharpness exited my skin.
My entire body went numb.
I collapsed onto my knees, vision clouding over, and I stared forward as a dizziness cast over me.
Everything was spinning...
Wait, what was I doing again?
"Skye," a distorted voice came from in front, making me gaze up hazily. "Skye!"
I heard another choked laugh from behind me, and an object clattered to my right.
I gazed down at it, squinting my eyes to center my tunnel vision on the object, and I tilted my head to the side when I saw an empty syringe resting next to me.
I continued staring at it, wondering what I was so afraid of but I... couldn't remember.
"What did you do?!" said an irate voice in front of me, but I couldn't recognize it. "What did you inject her with?!"
I heard a low chuckle, but I still felt dazed despite the cold developing inside me. "You'll find out," another man replied coolly. "Just something to hint? After today, don't touch her blood, Sebastian. I warn against it."
A blurred figure in front of me came barreling forward, but then a laugh echoed from behind me, and I heard a distant, "Bye."
And a second passed, and the figure in front of me slowed to a stop, breathing shakily.
He looked down at me then, stepping forward slowly.
And he knelt down. "Sweetheart," he said gently, "keep your eyes open. I'm gonna get you all fixed up, okay?"
I couldn't breathe...
I couldn't breathe.
