I smiled down at Skye as she remained asleep in my arms, trying to soothe her a little because I could tell she always had trouble sleeping.
But the door to her bedroom creaked open, and my eyes shot over to it.
I watched sharply as a shadow entered the room, and I narrowed my eyes as it closed the door and gazed over at me.
"Oh," the shadow said then, voice oddly dark, "didn't know you were in here, Sebastain."
"I thought I told you that you're not allowed near her," I growled.
He only stood fully, watching me for a moment as if he hadn't planned for this.
"You cannot keep me away," he replied, "for I am your other half, aren't I? Who knows, maybe this is all in your head, and you're just trying to deal with your dark side."
I lowered my voice, Skye still passed out in my arms. "Don't touch her, understand? Or I swear I will kill you."
"You and I both know I cannot die," he replied smugly, still standing by the door.
"Don't make me test that theory," I said, eyes darkening.
"Am I supposed to be scared?" he asked me, laughing. "Ooh, look, lovey-dovey Sebastain threatening a monster that ten times worse than him!"
"I'm not afraid of you," I said to him, seething. "I never was."
He chuckled, glancing over at me. "You never were, but you should be."
I glared.
"There are so many things that could be done to a girl," the shadow told me, making my jaw lock. "So many things that could be done to a poor, innocent girl. Killing's easy, so that's not happening first. No, maybe I could skin her." I felt my vision tint with red as anger swelled inside me. "Or I could force bleach down her throat. I could kill her slowly, make her feel pain in every way possible. I could whip her, stab her, or maybe shoot every limb and have her cry and try to crawl away from me, and then when she loses all hope in you, I'd finally kill her, loving that I caused her so much pain."
"You're a monster," I growled.
He glanced over in amusement. "I am you."
"You are not me," I told him, "and you never were."
"I am you, and you are me," he told me, "and it has forever been that way, Sebastian. You have no control over me."
"And you have no control over me," I told him. "I will find you, and I will kill you in the worst way possible."
"I'm better with the threats," he told me, laughing. "Seriously, all you do is use plain words like; 'kill,' and 'worst.' You need to describe it, come on now."
I glared. "I am not you."
"Ouch," he replied, splaying a hand across his chest, "that hurt. Maybe you should take some kind lessons. That would be a lot more fun and earn more skills in your manipulation field. Seriously, you suck at manipulation. All you do is lie. What's the fun in that?"
"I cannot break her," I told him, eyes glowing in the darkness, "and I will never hurt her."
"Though, you refuse to tell her who I am?" he said, laughing. "Do you see how this is tampering her trust in you?"
"The less she knows, the better."
"She doesn't know who you are," he told me.
"The less she knows," I said, growling the words, "the better."
"She doesn't know that you and I are the same."
"The BETTER," I repeated angrily.
The shadow only crept to the wall and leaned against it, smiling down at me with those pearl-white teeth. "You had the best plan, Sebastain. The absolute best."
"I won't do it," I told him.
"Why?" he said, mocking a dreamy voice. "Because 'love'?"
I just glared at him, and he sighed and kept himself to the wall. "You can't resist it forever, Sebastain. What you're planning is just going to come back at you, and when she finds out, she'll never trust you again. I'd say carrying it out is better than the emotional horror you're setting up for yourself."
"I'm not doing it," I growled. "I will never do it."
"Mmm..." he hummed, "you've gone soft."
"I've grown morals," I told him, still keeping Skye to my chest. "And if you so dare touch her, I swear I will come over to wherever dark hole you're hiding in and set it on fire."
The shadow only chuckled, tipping his head back. "Really?"
"Don't touch her," I hissed. "This is your only warning."
The shadow just laughed. "Sebastain, did you not hear what I said?" He started toward the bed, growling low, "I am your other half, I don't exist without you, you do not exist without me. This girl doesn't deserve what's she's getting, she never will."
I just watched him. "You're right. She deserves more, but I cannot let her go with you roaming around."
"You're roaming around, as well," he retorted. "You should know that keeping her with you will only lead to disaster. Everywhere you go, I am."
"You do not exist," I told him, growling the words. "You never will."
He just stepped forward, and then slammed faced first into nothing, and I smiled when I saw the shield I made earlier glisten with the impact, restructuring itself.
And he gasped, dropping backwards as I lowered my lashes.
He regained his composure, catching his breath as if he knocked it out of himself, and he glanced at me from the side. "Barrier," he said, touching the invisible shield, "smart."
I glared. "Get out."
He only smiled. "You can't rid of me."
"GET OUT," I said louder, holding Skye tighter to me.
He threw up his hands, still smiling. "Yes, sir."
And—as if he was made of smoke—he vanished from the room, leaving me staring into darkness while my whole body swarmed with cold.
Skye just shifted further into me, and I glanced down at her, eyes softening as I lifted my arms so she could get comfortable.
She just shuffled closer, drawing her legs up so she could curl around me, and then scooted forward so she was still lying somewhat on me, and she set her head on my chest, splaying her hand over my heart, and settled back into me.
I smiled at this, brushing my fingers through her hair and I swore I saw her face soften.
"Shhhh..." I cooed gently. "Stay asleep, stay asleep. Good girls stay asleep."
She just buried her face in my neck, and I could tell she was still sleeping, but my conversation with that... thing might've woken her a bit.
I continued brushing my fingers through her hair, only moving to tuck some behind her ear, and then continued stroking again.
She melted into me, and I smiled.
"Am I being gentle enough?" I asked her.
She only turned further toward me and relaxed, clearly feeling comfy now.
The moment she relaxed back into me, I wrapped my arms around her. "It's okay," I whispered, "shhh...."
I just buried my face into her hair, promising, "He won't touch you. I swear." I closed my eyes tightly. "And neither will I."49Please respect copyright.PENANAgw4BSNAeBw
