Skye
I parted my lashes later that morning, eyes weighing with exhaustion as I stared at my purple ceiling.
His words replayed in my head:
The world is a dangerous place, Kiki.
The question is if you can handle it, so tell me.
Can you?
After rolling over and touching my phone, my lips parted when I realized I was awake hours from school starting.
I sighed, rolling over as I stared at my ceiling.
Ugh... Ugh. Ugh.
I wanted to sleep but I wasn't tired. Urg.
I only closed my eyes for a moment, diving deep into my mind...
What is your name?
I thought for a moment.
Eyes as black as the night... hair the color of ink.
Are you dangerous?
I parted my lashes again, deciding now it was time to get up, so I caught my clothes and slipped into the bathroom.
Moments later, I was in the shower, sighing as I sat on the floor, water padding on my shoulders and warming my soul.
As I stared up, I decided to figure out more about him...
My mom always told me that dreams were a way for your body to reflect on past events; things you feared, things that need processing, things that you need to relieve to grow from.
But where did he come from?
I stared back up.
Mysterious... dangerous... expressionless.
"But what your name?" I whispered.
I tried to picture him and all his facial features, his eyes and hair... and I tried to think of a good name for him.
I sighed then and decided I needed to actually clean myself, so I stood, scrubbing my hair under the water, then finally proceeded to wash my face and body.
I was scared, but I knew that he wasn't real.
I was going to graduate soon, my eighteenth birthday was going to be here next year, and my life was going to change when I graduated.
My heart warmed with excitement at the thought.
I still didn't know what I wanted to be, though. I wasn't interested in nursing or engineering like my parents were pushing me to be.
I wasn't interested in anything.
All I knew was that I liked to write and draw, but those weren't going to be my future job.
After turning off the shower, I dried my skin and spread lotion on myself, and I finally ended up pulling on a green, plaid dress that fell a little past my hips, a pair of socks, and leggings, as well as my favorite blue jacket.
I smiled softly and started doing my morning routine, brushing my hair and teeth, and lastly putting on makeup.
And I walked out of the bathroom with pride.
I stopped when my mom stood at my bedside, gazing up at me with arched brows as she set some clothes on my bed.
"I don't know what you were doing in there..." she said, "but keep it off your face, please."
I shook my head despite the redness growing on my cheeks. "Mom, can you not?"
She just smiled slightly, nodding to my bed. "Oh, by the way, I washed some of your clothes."
I glanced down at the bed and my heart warmed. "You didn't have to do that. I'm seventeen, I can start caring for myself."
She shook her head. "You're still under eighteen which means I can still pamper you."
I rolled my eyes, smiling and stepping over to my bed.
After quickly folding the clothes and putting them in my drawer, I slipped it closed.
"Thanks, mom," I said.
She just smiled.
"So..." I said then, glancing around, "breakfast?"
"Oh," she said with a straight face, "that you have to do yourself. I'm not your maid."
I gave her a look, and her face cracked a smile.
"I'm joking," she said, laughing, "I made French toast."
I only stepped over and passed her, and she followed as we walked down the stairs together, me taking it two-steps at a time, and then I landed on the ground.
After circling to the kitchen, I found my dad sitting there, lightly sipping his coffee as his half-finished plate of French toast sat next to him.
"Good morning, dad," I said, stepping over to the kitchen and catching my plate.
He smiled over at me as I stepped over to him and spread some syrup all over my French toast.
"How's my senior?" he asked me.
I rolled my eyes. "I've been a senior for a semester, dad. It's not like it's going to end soon."
"Eh..." he replied, "it'll end sooner than you think."
I just smiled and ate my breakfast.
"Hey," he said to mom, "she smiled. Wanna take a picture? This is a once in a lifetime situation!"
I glared at him, and he chuckled, continuing to drink his coffee.
"You have school in an hour!" mom said, clapping her hands. "Chop—chop!"
"I know," I said.
I didn't want to go.
Not only did I have four tests, but...
I felt like something was going to happen today, although I wasn't sure what it was.
Just... something.69Please respect copyright.PENANAdDISJVnfDv
