However, her worries about Niko grew as the day progressed and still no messages came. Xoa had sent several texts to Niko since she awoke, but no reply was received. For whatever reason, Xoa couldn't shake the concern she was feeling inside herself as now, her and the family were walking along the beach and almost five hours had passed since she had woken up.
It was after her walk on the beach that Xoa decided to get another opinion on the topic. Quickly creating a groupchat with Drey and Sage on the groupchat, she asked her friends him they had heard from Niko. Both girls denied having contact with her.
Xoa worried throughout the day until late afternoon when Niko finally messaged. Xoa knew something was wrong. Niko wasnt herself. Instead of explanations or even a casual 'hello' text, Niko sent a limited variety of words such as "lol" or "k." The exchange of messages could barely be identified as a conversation. It was like Xoa was talking to a stranger.
Xoa quickly became concerned, as Niko was acting very different. Her concerns had quickly escalated into a panic as she began texting Niko desperately. She needed to know whats wrong. She needed to know where she was. She needed to know if she was ok. Xoa had convinced herself that something might have happened with Niko. Had she done something wrong? why was Niko being like this?
Xoa knew Niko owned an unsettling history with mental illness. She knew Niko used to hurt herself. She knew Niko had felt suicidal. Both girls had fought through their battles together. Xoa thought that when they were together, Niko got better. She knew Niko needed her, as she needed Niko more then anyone else. She thought maybe they were growing stronger, but what was happening showed her otherwise. Everything was changing between them.
