It wasnt until recess time, 11.00, that Sage and Xoa were reunited with Drey. There was a silent awkwardness around the trio as they all knew a part of their group was missing. Niko had not talked to any of the girls on the first day back, and also neglected to sit with them at mealtimes. The three girls tried not to stare at the empty spot next to them during lunch, as it reminded them of their friend. But as the end of lunch time drew near, there was still no sign of the brunette girl.
Together the three girls fought through the first day back to school, avoiding the awkard looks and questions from their classmates. It felt like everyone noticed that something had happened.
As Xoa returned home from school, she immediatley contacted Niko, again, asking if he was okay and how her day was. Niko's reply declaring that her day was great did not appear genuine. Xoa could not shake the fact that less than a week ago Niko was telling Xoa how much she loved her, and now she was shutting her out.
In addition to her worrying over Niko's state, another worry clouded her brain. Dean had been causing more trouble at home. He started drinking again and started using drugs. It appeared the man could not control his own actions anymore. His problems were starting to escalate, and he was threatening his mother's safety.
