But along with such a dangerous game, came consequences. Xoa was juggling life and death in both palms. Every day she felt lightheaded and dizzy, like the slightes form of fast motion would cause her to have the need to sit down. She began to not participate in school sporting activities, as she knew that if she did, she would pass out.
Although her weight was declining, she never felt confident with her new body. She wore baggy clothes to hide herself. She still felt not enough.
As school continued, Drey and Sage began to notice the changes in Xoa. She no longer participated in sport events, she would skip recess and lunch every day, she had lost a significant amount of weight and she always seemed weak and sore.
"Do you think..." Sage began to speak as she sat alone with Drey one afternooon. "Do you think shes....hurting herself.....by not eating" Drey nodded. Both girls knew that they would have to confront Xoa about the matter.
One afternoon as the girls sat together, Drey brought up the topic. "So....I've been noticing that...you've been really different lately..and well, you don't eat at meals anymore". The comment caused Xoa's eyes to widen in shock. "What? Why?" Xoa asked while getting up from the table. As her head began to pound, slightly blackening her vision, she slowly sat down again. "How can you tell?", she questioned in confusion. Drey remained silent.
Sage looked at the shorter blonde saldy, realizing their suspicions were true. "Its just, you seem to disappear at times and we haven't seen you eat anything for several days now". Xoa remained quiet, her eyes filled with fear.
