{Tyler}
“It’s been a while, Elden. I’m starting to think he’s not going to wake up…” A voice whispered,
“He better, or I’ll kill him.”
“How can you- Nevermind.”
“Y’know… If he doesn’t wake up, both of us are gonna lose are jobs. We’re already on thin ice, Tennille.”
“Well, I’m pretty sure that’s your fault!”
“It is not my fault! I’m not the one who thought blowing u-”
“Hey! Hey! He’s opening his eyes!”
“Oh, he’s alive, thank fucking god! ...Or just god since I shouldn’t be cursing on the job.”
“Kid, can you hear us?” Someone asked, and I groaned in response, my mouth unable to figure out how to say the word,
“Is that a yes?”
“Y-Yeah…” I managed, breathing heavily, as my brain scrambled to figure out what the actual hell was happening,
“Don’t stress yourself. You’ve been out for a while, you need to take it easy.”
“How hard is it to say ‘yeah’?” Elden scoffed,
“Elden! This is exactly why you aren’t a good cop!”
“Yeah… You’re right. I have no patience for this job anymore.”
“Then quit.” I muttered,
“Excuse me?”
“If you can’t do your job right, just quit.”
“Well, you’re kind of a shithead, aren’t you?” Elden rolled his eyes, putting his hands on his hip, drawing my attention to the gun he was carrying. I felt tears slip down my cheek, as gunshots rung in my head, “God, you’re such a fucking baby for a criminal.”
“If you’re gonna be a dick, get the hell out of here.”
“Don’t talk to me like that.”
“Elden, he’s right. You’re being a dick, and you shouldn’t be.”525Please respect copyright.PENANAIQLufAfbVj
“Seriously?”
“Look, just chill.” Tennille sighed, “Tyler, what’s going on?”
“Nothing.” I muttered, though Tennille didn’t believe me, as she scanned the room carefully, before her eyes landed on the gun,
“Is it the gun?”
“He’s been in a fucking murder ring, there’s no way he’s terrified of the damn gun!”
“Elden!”
“I’m not sorry!”
“You’ll be sorry when you’re sleeping on the couch tonight.”
“Excuse me?”
“Ugh. enough. Just put the damn gun away.”
“Look, my hands are away from the gun.”
“Seeing as he’s still shaking, that’s not the problem. Let me take a look at his file,” Tennille walked over to the laptop laying on the counter, “Yep, you need to put that away, come look as file.”
“Damn.” Elden whispered, as he looked on the computer, with a slight frown on his face. “Alright, sorry kiddo.” He concealed his gun into one of the cabinets, before locking it up,
“Is that better?”
“Y-Yeah, thanks…”
“Alright, look. You seem to be extremely exhausted, so we’re going to give you some time to rest, but after that, we’re going to need you to comply, okay?”
“Okay.” I took a deep breath,
“Good. After that, we’ll either be sending you to prison, or a mental hospital.”
“Alright.”
“We’ll be back tomorrow morning, so you have until then to collect yourself.” Elden advised, closing the door, before it quickly reopened, the last people I wanted to see coming through,
“Tyler Noel Pafford! What in Christ’s name were you thinking?!” Mom asked, her arms flying around me, which I attempted to pry away, but in the end, giving up, as it still was difficult for me to move, especially without any pain.
“That’s exactly what I’d like to know.” Dad followed in, his voice stern,
“Don’t worry about it…” I muttered, avoiding his gaze out of fear,
“Don’t worry about it?! Do you understand what you’ve done?! Arona took after you, and ran! You have disgraced the family name for Christ’s sake!”
“That’s what you’re worried about?! The family name?!” I shouted, “Get the fuck out!”
“I am your father, you cannot talk to me like that!”
“Well, I just fuckin’ did asshole!”
“Tyler, calm down!”
“No! You’re not gonna fucking tell me to calm down! I’m sick of all your dumbasses!”
“Now, Tyler, you don’t mean that-”
“I’m pretty damn sure I do!” I snapped, making her flinch. Not long after that, I was the one flinching, as my father’s hand came into contact with my face, only further aggravating me, “Are you fuckin’ serious?!”
“Yes, I am fucking serious! You’re going to be in so much trouble when you get home!”
“Who said I’m going home?!”
“Hey, I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” Elden peeked in the door,
“You can’t force me.”
“Seeing as I’m a police officer, yeah, I actually can.” Elden sent them a glare, to signify he wasn’t kidding. Dad grumbled under his breath, before following mom out of the room, “I’m sorry, we wouldn't have let them in if we knew…”
“It’s whatever.” I sighed,
“It’s whatever? How is it whatever?” Elden sent me a look of disgust,
“I’m used to shit like this. Sure, it can be depressing, and sometimes it’ll piss me off, but that’s just my life.”
“Just your life? No, it isn’t just your life. If you don’t end up in prison, you’ve got to leave. Trust me, I was in a similar position as a kid, and leaving was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
“I’ve already been planning on leaving for years now…” I sighed, “I’ve just been waiting.”
“For what?”
“The day I turn eighteen, and can legally move out.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot you’re a minor… I can take you in if that’s what you need.”
“I think I’ll be fine, I’ve survived this long already.”
“Seeing as you’re in the hospital for… self-harm, to the point where you almost died, I don’t think I can believe that you can survive any longer in that kind of environment.”
“Of course I can’t, but that’s not your job.”
“It’s not in my job requirements, no, but that’s the whole reason I became a cop. I want to help people in situations similar to mine, so maybe they won’t have to be stuck there for so long, because trust me, it’s fucked me up for the rest of my life.” He informed me, before taking a deep breath, “Of course it’s a different situation, since as far as I can tell, you’re mentally and physically abused, where I was… I was a kid, sold by my emotionally, and physically abusive parents, to be a kid trapped inside a pedophile ring, so they could have their alcohol, but that doesn’t mean it won’t scar you too.”
“I’ll be okay.”
“Alright, I guess… Just let me know if you change your mind, okay?”
