I might be extremely biased regarding this one because I am a filthy casual and damn proud of it (still super casual in my FromSoft games because I don't go with meta builds because they tend to be boring and not my playstyle), but this needs to be said. It's almost worrying how many people in the past couple years at least bemoan the fact that casual players have taken up the game and make up a lot of the player base. Games don't live on the try-hards and competitive scene alone because you also need the people who can't just sit and no-life a game and choose to have other interests and just want something to do when they feel like it. Yes, there should be a few things to balance out the game for all players, but the casual scene is where most of your playerbase is going to be.
I'm making this point after witnessing some of the community posts of both the Helldivers 2 and Spacemarine 2 communities. While some complaints about the updates made are perfectly valid, there are some of both who forget a point of the game and also would complain that they made the game too hard after saying it's now too easy. The games are meant to make you feel small, even Spacemarine because many still die during their course of deployment against the enemies of the Imperium, and Helldivers are basically nearly limitless cannon fodder. However, where people complain about new players hopping on to difficulties that are beyond their ability to play, I have to put some of the blame on the playerbase since many talk like the easier difficulties are simply not worth playing when, at this point in time, they have gotten better at the games to the point where harder difficulties are a valid option, and then get mad when people try them.37Please respect copyright.PENANAAVdJpr60cq
Another thing is when people complain about something being too easy, they are usually using a meta build that is designed to be great and almost guarantee success. Yes, there is also some skill required to use these builds effectively, same thing in FromSoft games, but if they want a challenge they can run a different, non-meta build for a while to see what is still good and, above all, fun. People take their games way to seriously and fall into the trap that you have to use the meta which is a major reason why I don't player online multiplayer because I don't really care for the meta and am playing to have fun...you know...like video games are supposed to be. The Pokémon community is also bad for this, saying specific Pokémon are bad because they don't have a certain stat total while I'm over here basically playing only marginally better than when I played as a kid.
Some people just seem to want games to be geared towards making them as difficult and generic as possible and leaving the casual players in the dust. Nintendo tried to appeal to the competitive crowd by changing a ton of fun/interesting final smashes to be the same when the competitive scene doesn't use items or final smashes and the rest of us have to suffer. Yes, the more try-hard and competitive scene does get a lot more attention because they're the ones who usually are in the lime-light or talking about more than just how it's good, but the casual players are what make the game live. The harder-core players are the same type of people who say that a game is dead because there hasn't been an update for a few months while the more casual are there to play with friends or just play and have fun.
There's also another thing where it seems like the players are super ungrateful for the devs of Helldivers 2 and Spacemarine for all the work they do to keep pumping out updates that I don't think I'd be willing to give them the same courtesy. When Helldivers 2 was review bombed because of the PS network thing, I can understand that because it wasn't at launch and would stop a lot of people from playing...however now people are talking about review bombing just because they don't like the current update. It hasn't happened yet, but doing so makes you look like a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum that the devs have decided to do something to make the game more difficult/not the way they want it. 37Please respect copyright.PENANAyLVbN0Uq0R
Get over yourself and, if you don't like it, go and play another game for a bit and keep tabs on updates to see if things have changed back. Let the casual players who are playing to have fun have their fun. They'll keep the game going even when it fades out of popularity. Have fun with your games and leave if it stops being fun
Have a day
