I can feel that I'm about to get a lot of flack for this one. I do agree that he didn't mean to kill Sayaka and that he was charged with adrenaline, but that doesn't change the fact that he went back to his room, got his tool kit, and broke the door handle to kill her. I'll not say Sayaka is completely innocent, but I'll discuss her in another chapter. Back to Leon....
I have seen a lot of people defending Leon who actually killed Sayaka and making Sayaka out to be a horrible, irredeemable person and I really just don't get it. Both of them were driven to despair by what happened to them and made their choices, but Leon isn't condemned for his. He still killed someone when he could've left after she lost the will to fight.
The executions hadn't been made known as Monokuma had simply said they would be punished for getting caught, and if they got it wrong the Blackened would go free and everyone else would be punished. Neither of them knew what was going to happen, and both made their choices.
Did Leon deserve better? Absolutely. All of them, save for one, of the original 15 deserved better than what they got. Does that absolve him of murdering Sayaka? I don't think so. He still went through the effort to get the door that he thought was locked open and stab her.
Also, before anyone says he was trying to console her, that only happened in the Manga which is regarded as being noncanon. He might've regretted it but it doesn't change the fact that he played the game and lost.
