OK...much like something I said in a previous part about people complaining about genwunners, I feel I have to say this. I see more people complain about people hating on Dark Souls 2 than I do actual complaining about the game. There are reasons to like the game and whole other reasons to hate it and both view points are valid. The issue I see more of is how people choose to defend DS 2 and how it makes them look worse rather than trying to make the game look better.
First of all, most of them mention that it was their first FromSoft game...which shows an inherent bias. They accuse people of hating DS 2 because of bias but they don't look at their own which is typical for people to do. This makes them look childish in saying that it's the best when they played it first and then the rest. There's nothing wrong with loving the first in a series you played, but leading with that in discussion is never a good idea. You tell someone that when they question you about it, and you are aware enough to understand that you come from a point of bias.
Next, they accuse people of just jumping on the bandwagon to hate DS 2. There is some truth to this, but there are still plenty of valid reasons to dislike DS 2 even before SotFS. Enemy placement still wasn't great and it only got worse with the next edition and mobs of enemies/enemies in bs positions aren't really all that enjoyable. The Adaptability skill is annoying because the game doesn't tell you what the skill does when it is massively important to many features of the game. The hit boxes are generally awful which is not a problem unique to FromSoft titles, but it's more common in DS 2 than in the other games.
Another thing people will mention is that the PvP and weapn variety is some of the best in the series. Not everyone likes to pvp whether it's part of the game or not (I have already voiced my opinion on some pvp-ers) and a ton of weapons doesn't really mean something is good. There's still a ton of weapons in the other games and people will stick to what they know or what they know is good and only branching out when they want to challenge themselves. Also, not a unique issue, but how many of those weapons are actually good and viable for the majority of the game? The durability bug also kinda takes away from this major selling point, so the weapons, many of which I did enjoy, don't carry a ton of weight.
People also love to bring uo the fact that DS 2 was made my FromSoft's B Team as if that's supposed to excuse everything. A good chunk of the original people who worked on DS 1 I'm pretty sure were put onto B Team and it turned out like it did. You can't even give the excuse that they didn't know what to do with the success because Demon Souls is the first FromSoft product. Just because something is not made by the original people does not mean that you can use that as an excuse for all of the poor choices made in the design.
The last thing I see is people pointing to the lore and areas. Yes, DS 2 still has great lore and some of my favorite looking areas, but these don't mean anything when people are generally not having fun while coming in from other Souls titles. I was so frustrated with the game that, at a certain point, I just didn't bother paying attention to anything and just kept going until I beat it. And the typical responses of "git gud" and "skill issue" don't apply here that much. I didn't enjoy my time in DS 2 and the world itself wasn't enough to make me want to pick it up ever again since I completed it.
There's a lot of good things that Dark Souls 2 did that are worth talking about, but people who savagely defend the game completely ignore any other opinion even if the person liked DS 2. There's a ton of reasons to not like DS 2 and people basically doing the FromSoft equivalent of calling people genwunners, isn't helping people's opinions on the game, nor is it making the game's faults magically go away. You can still enjoy something and understand that it's not perfect and not hate people who don't share your opinion. We have enough series like this with Elder Scrolls and Pokémon...it gets on my nerves as someone who enjoys the game and content people make on it. Have a day
