The edition of Warhammer that my brother and I got into, and probably the least popular. From what I understand, people don't like it less because it's so different from 40k and more because of how it messed with the Warhammer Fantasy lore (please do correct me politely if I'm wrong on what it's called). I understand the reaction to changes in lore, I'm guilty of the same thing, but some people take it a bit too far. There's nothing wrong with not liking something, we're all biased, but there's an issue with attacking people for the thing they like and the thing itself. This hasn't happened to me much, but I know it does happen.
I like AoS a LOT more than 40k mostly for some of the simplified mechanics and the fantasy element vs science fiction. There's still lore that I believe is extra and so edgy that I get cuts from just learning it which is one of the main reasons I never got into 40k, but there's also less grimdark elements in AoS, I think. The Stormcast Eternals are an army with some semblance of being the good guys even if their methods are harsher. They don't demean the civilians they protect or use them as fodder but rather fight alongside them.
It's also a fun game to play which is why people play tabletop games if not just for the collection of the models which are still pretty amazing. The more simple mechanics with the command points I think is better for newer players as you have a very small pool and very few options to use them so you don't have to really think that much. Age of Sigmar is still a good game even if people harp on what it did to lore, and people should be allowed to enjoy it as those people enjoy 40k more.
