Alright, so this is another one that's been sitting with me for a while and I just haven't gotten around to making this part. Now, I love a well-written villain who is a villain more through their actions than what they want to achieve. These villains are some of my favorite characters much less villains. Some great examples of these villains that I like to use are Thanos (you all probably saw this one coming) and Mr Freeze. However, there are a lot of people who seem to have a very concerning idea of villains who are right like Tai Lung and General Zod. There's a big difference in them actually being right and right based on what a person actually thinks.
Alright, so let's look at Thanos for a bit, but not too long. What makes Thanos a villain is the fact that he wants to obtain the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life in the universe in order to achieve his less-villainous goal of providing more resources for everything. I've wondered, recently, if he made sure to define sentient life as, if not, he'd also annihilate half of all plant life and just reset everything to zero. While you don't agree with him, he's the type of villain who you can sympathize with because his overall goal isn't anything nefarious and actually an attempt to help people. 212Please respect copyright.PENANAC0Jl7lGhDW
Now...let's talk about Mr Freeze. Even though his goal is find a cure for his wife's disease, if he does find a cure, he's also cured an extremely dangerous and deadly disease for everyone else, and even he isn't that heartless to not share it. He only turned to villainy as the best and fastest way for him to get the materials and funds he needs for his research. However, I will admit that him freezing people probably does count him as the most lethal of Batman's enemies since there's a reason why we don't actually use cryogenics because unfreezing them would most likely cause death or complications at best.212Please respect copyright.PENANAi86NC1rprD
Now...let's go on to the villains who are in no way generally right. I'll start with Zod since I know the least about him between the two who I mentioned. Zod wants to enforce his own totalitarian rule which, in no example in the history of anything, has ever ended well for anyone involved. Totalitarian governments rule through fear and force which, while may work on a portion of the populace, will only create a seething bed of resentment and push people to rebel against the government because they believe, even if they fail, death is a better alternative. It doesn't matter if you think that their rule is better than whatever is in place now, the only thing that a dictatorship can improve is anarchy, but Zod's not looking for that.212Please respect copyright.PENANA7JKZ5uKyAe
Tai Lung is another popular one, but people seem to actually have some good reasons behind this. He was molded by the expectations of Shifu and the rigorous and brutal training that he endured over the years, only to be denied what he had been seeking. All very good points on the history of Tai Lung...however...his response was not appropriate in any sense of the word. Rather than taking out his anger on Shifu or Oogway, Tai Lung went on a rampage in the village and there is one good piece of evidence to suggest that, not only did people get hurt, but that people might have been killed in his rampage. There's always that one character in cartoons, usually an old man, who won't move for whatever impending doom because he's too stubborn to leave, but no one in the village below the Jade Palace argues when told to leave. The rampage Tai Lung went on must've been absolutely horrific for everyone to hear that he was on his way back that they all said "Alright, let's fucking go" and actually leave. His anger is justifiable, but his actions against people who had absolutely no involvement in Oogway's decision is not in any way.212Please respect copyright.PENANA6RoYf1t2f3
Just because you think a villain is right, doesn't mean that they are in general. While most people have varying degrees of their own sense of morality, there's a general sense of morality that we all understand. It's that basic sense of morality that truly determines what makes a villain like Thanos or Mr Freeze "right" in what they're doing. The reasons of greed and not feeling like they didn't amount to their full potential, do not give them the free pass to be called "right" for what they do.
