This opinion has repeatedly gotten me called a boomer and old, but I'm standing by this one. Current memes are not funny. They're just not about 90% of the time and even with the funny ones, you have to sift through the millions of terrible ones to find a good one. I will concede that humor is subjective, but there's just nothing to laugh about with memes these days save for animal memes, really.
Another thing that I hate is that it seems EVERYTHING has to be a meme these days. Doesn't matter what it is, it has to be a meme and I really just don't get it. Memes these days also die practically instantly because people just jump on them and spread them like wildfire, and it's the especially unfunny ones that get spread the most.
Another thing is that meme-ing in real life or quoting memes/speaking in meme doesn't make you cool or funny. Yes, I know this isn't a new thing, but I've noticed it more and just think that it's a lazy way to communicate and try to be funny. If you think it makes you cool and relevant, just don't bother. It's annoying and stupid when you do it.
People who are defend current memes often use an excuse like "you're just old" or "ever heard of absurdism" or the ever popular "ok boomer." I am in my early twenties and I still can't find what's so hilarious about them. I have a very low-brow sense of humor, the word "booger" still makes me laugh as much as it did when I was a kid, and I can't bring myself to laugh. There's nothing funny about them and, if anything, they're just annoying. If that makes me "old" I'll carry the new title with pride
