I know that quite a few people don't like the Anakin Skywalker in the prequels saying that he's too whiny and edgy, but I feel that that's the point. I've kinda felt this way since I learned that people didn't like how he was portrayed, though I'm not 100% sure what they expected from how little we actually learned about him in the Original Trilogy which consisted of fighting in the Clone Wars and becoming Darth Vader. Anakin's whiny and edgy nature I really feel is a major part of his character as he is being pulled between two forces, no pun intended. Those forces are the Jedi Order and the Force leading him to fulfill the prophecy to bring balance to the Force after Darth Plagueis fucked everything up.224Please respect copyright.PENANAtoiHX1pgd3
Let's look at the prophecy first because this is the short part. The concept of balance in the Force requires both the Light and Dark sides existing together in a sort of harmony. I use that last term a little loosely because the Sith and Jedi have been fighting since before the Sith were just Dark-side Force users. Anyway, this is Anakin's true destiny in all reality, and we've all seen the memes that he technically did by bringing the amount of living Jedi closer to that of the two Sith that there is at one time. 224Please respect copyright.PENANAUIJmKpgWRC
This leads me into the point on the Jedi Order. Obi-Wan and the rest of the Order, save for Qui-Gon most likely, believed that the Force being balanced meant the eradication of the Sith. To them, Anakin was little more than a tool to be used to defeat the Sith and truly rid the galaxy of them once and for all despite them being incorrect about this for millennia since Darth Bane's eradication of the Sith he deemed unworthy. They were training him to be the perfect Jedi in their incorrect interpretation of the prophecy and even taking their own ideals to extremes with him. It's always made me wonder about an alternate universe where Anakin was allowed to find a balance between the Dark Side and Light Side not only within himself, but for the galaxy as a whole.
So let's explore the whiny and edgy nature of Anakin Skywalker. Imagine growing up and being told that you must be perfect and in complete control of your emotions and actions in order to complete a vague prophecy. This represents an extreme of the Jedi Philosophy which would be practically impossible for anyone to obtain unless they lived for centuries like Yoda.
Anakin has lived through trauma as Watto's slave on Tatooine, and later learning of his mother's selling and death at the hands of the Tuskan Raiders. It's important to remember that he was taken very late into the Jedi Order, and they were considering not taking him because he was too old even if he was the Chosen One. His traumatization most likely leads into his lack of control over his emotions which in turn clouds his judgement regardless of how much he wants to be recognized by the Jedi Order. While he's still fighting his own human nature, it goes deeper that he's also trying to resolve his actual destiny coupled with what the Jedi were trying to turn him into. If you really think about it, Sideous really had the perfect setup to turn Anakin into Darth Vader and actually bring him more towards his destiny than the Jedi allowed him to.
With that brief tangent, I really like the portrayal of Anakin in the prequels because it makes sense for what the character is going through.
