I felt the glitch.

Time stopped. But you could still think.

Right as you could comprehend what was happening, it was over.

Everyone felt it.

No one knew what to do. We just all stood there staring at each other.

“Guys! We may have a problem!” Thomas ran out of the house.

“Did you find Sparrow?” Grace asked.

“Yes,” Thomas stepped aside to show the little girl, “but I can’t find any of the adults.”

I stared at him disbelieving.

“What?” Enoch asked as if Thomas was just being irrational.

“See for yourself.” Thomas stepped away from the door to allow us in.

We immediately split up to search the building.

Nothing.

No one in the house but us.

Everyone started to gather in the kitchen.

“Guys! Don’t panic. It’s probably just a joke. Let’s call our parents and see if we can figure this out.” I pulled my phone out of my pocket along with everyone else.

I called my mom.

Once.

Twice.

No answer.

I called my dad.

No answer.

My sister.

No answer.

“Voicemail,” David said.

“Same,” another chided in.

“No one got an answer?” I asked.

Everyone shook their heads.

“Call every single one of your contacts!” I commanded as I started to tap on every name.

No answer.

No answer.

No answer.

By now, the room started to erupt in panic.

“Is this some sort of prank?”

“What is happening?”

“I want to go home!”

“Guys!” I yelled but no one heard me.

Thomas pulled out a chair and motioned for me to stand on it.

I smiled at him and then climb on top of the chair. “Everyone! Listen to me! We are going to need to split up! Go in pairs of two! Knock on every single house till you get an answer. Don’t go more than a mile. Come back here in ten minutes! Does everyone understand?”

Everyone nodded and than started to pair up and leave.

Grace walked over to me. “Wanna take houses up north?”

“Let’s go,” I said as everyone exited the building and started to run to the nearest houses.

We jogged up to the porch of a house and knock.

No answer.

We rang the doorbell.

“Let’s try a different one,” I offered.

But we got the same result for the next house.

And the next.

Now I was starting to get scared.
