“Hello?” I yelled at the window.
No response.
Hunter banged on the door.
Still nothing.
“Dude,” Hunter stepped off the porch and headed back to the road. “This is freaky.”
“Yeah,” I followed him while I checked my watch. “We should probably head back. It’s almost been ten minutes.
“Let’s try one more house.” Hunter walked up to the next house with me right behind him
I suddenly stopped.
The door was left ajar.
Hunter bent down and picked up a purse that looked as if it was dropped on the welcome mat.
He looked at it and then handed it back to me.
“Hello? Anybody?” Hunter leaned into the open doorway and then took a wary step in, looking around. “Thomas, come see this.”
I stepped into the house and looked around the house as my eyes adjusted to the dark.
Everything looked normal around the house. Just like a family lived there.
Except for the mess.
There were broken dishes, dropped books, and a spilled laundry basket.
“So? They’re a messy family?” I turned to Hunter, self-conscious of invading a family’s privacy.
“It looks like they were carrying something then just dropped it and ran.”
“Or vanished.”
Hunter looked at me with fear in his eyes.
“Come on. We need to get back.” I set the purse on the counter and then stepped back outside, closing the door behind me.512Please respect copyright.PENANA0O4iYM3dMI
