“What is that?” Noel froze in the middle of the hallway.
“A gun.” I picked up the bag from off the ground and threw it over my shoulder.
She blinked twice. “What’s it for?”
“You can’t be serious.” I stared at her.
Noel swallowed.
I rolled my eyes. This was our leader? “It’s for protection,” I said calmly.
Her hands clenched into fists by her side. “What is a gun supposed to do against a robot?”
I shut the safe, redoing the lock, then turned to face her entirely. “A robot may not be the only thing out there!”
“You can’t just bring along a gun! What if one of the junior highers gets a hold of it?” Her face began turning red.
“Calm down.” I took a step forward. “They won’t get anywhere near it.”
Her lips were pressed into a thin line. “No! You can’t take a gun!”
I raised one eyebrow. “Noel. You don’t control me.”
“I’m not trying to control you!” It seemed as if she had forgotten how to breathe. “I’m just trying to protect them!”
“No!” I raised my Pendant in case she had forgotten. “I am supposed to protect them! Look,” I took a deep breath, “I don’t know what this Pendant means, but I do know, I’m not going to just travel across the world without some sort of protection device!”
Noel clenched her jaw then took a deep breath, slowly letting it out. “Can you promise me no one will touch it but you?”
“Yes, I promise,” I spoke slowly, confused by her outburst.
She reluctantly sighed. “Ok. Let’s go. Everyone is waiting.”
I nodded then led the way back to the teens.
